Total disconnect from the AD on all fronts... They are not going to lift a finger unless there's a huge drop-off in doogs buying season tickets and merchandise. They are very much business-minded about the whole thing and just living in the moment. They don't even treat Oregon like a rival, as they have emotionally detached themselves from that concept. They've enjoyed the doogdom that lives within many of our fans, because of the success in the 80's and early 90's. That won't last long as old doogs will eventually die off or they'll get jaded and walk away (which is what happened to me). There's only so much of mediocre play and losing to the same teams (Cal, Stanford, & Oregon) in the same stupid fashion a fan can take. It's obvious that the AD doesn't hold the coaches accountable.
The UW AD surrendered a long time ago. Years ago, on doogman, there was discussion of the Marinerization of Husky football. Well, the process is complete. Competing for championships is hard and it also raises expectations. Why bother with that. It's hard! As long as your fanbase keeps spending their money on tickets, replica jerseys, and donations, all is well. Just enough revenue to keep things running.
Quite honestly, I have many other things I can spend my money on and they are all a hell of a lot more fun than Husky football. Detaching myself from this program has also been good for my psyche.
Fuck this team, fuck the AD, fuck the upper campus, fuck Seattle, and fuck King County. We'll never have the type of championship caliber football team that we expect with the clownshow "leadership" on all levels.
We were in the playoff FOUR years ago. Its possible to look at a situation objectively without dooging
But we? failed to improve upon that. Never mind losing the big bowl games. Losing conference games, often to the same teams multiple years in a row doesn't help with building any kind of momentum for the program. Wins get fans excited. Wins also bring recruits.
The "oh well, we went out there and tried hard" feeling that comes from the coaches and the AD is tiresome.
Improve? You mean win a natty? Not every year is going to be your best year and this was never going to be it. The fact that anyone is making judgments on this season is ridiculous with covid new hc oc and qb with a young lineup. All that and we lost 1 game to a decent team
Not looking solely at this season. Looking at the history of this program in the past 30 years...
There's a mediocre/loser mentality that permeates UWAD.
As went Mike Lude & Don James, so did accountability and the will to win.
It's fucking over! It's been over coming up on 30 years. The upper campus can't stomach a winning football team.
Upper campus has hated winning football teams since WW1. Nothing's changed with us.
Yet we've still had some really good runs at times.

Let's look at the Mt Rushmore of College Football
Alabama - mediocre from 1983 to 2008 with the exception of beating @creepycoug in 1992.
Ohio State - No Natty from 1969 to 2001. Lost to Michigan like 9 years straight.
Notre Dame - not really elite from 1992 on. Last Natty in 1988. Could this be the year for @GrundleStiltzkin ? Prolly not.
USC - lol.

I am longtime season-ticket holder and am considering penning a similar letter. Mainly, I am "this close" to giving up the tickets to send a message to Jimmy about hiring JohnDon and retaining Bob and Boner, etc.
But to play a bit of devil's advocate, I'm genuinely curious how Jimmy and Jen could have responded differently this year.
Jimmy was one of the hottest coaching assistants out there. Hiring him to be HC and instill some much-needed energy seemed like a no-brainer. Could we have attracted someone better? Maybe? Probably not. Seemed like a natural successor. And we've all been begging for an arrogant alpha, rather than a technocratic beta accountant. I fucking loved him swinging his dick around at midcourt during the bball game, talking up the 2020 class and talking to the 2021 class. We haven't had that swagger back up by results since the Neu years.
I know Jen reveres Pete and rightly so, but you can't fault her for hiring Jimmy. Hell, Pete clearly knew he was done and the program needed a shot in the arm. You think Pete would endorse Jimmy if he was a disorganized Sark-like mess?
That said, was she supposed to micromanage him and tell him that his head coach hiring was contingent on firing Bob and Will and Boner? And hiring Kellen Moore and Gerald Alexander? I just don't see any AD doing that. Maybe I'm naive, but what HC would allow an AD to tell him what RBs coach to fire/hire unless there was some egregious behavior?
Aside from the retentions/hires, Jimmy brought instant energy to the program. And then it quickly fizzled. I have to think it was all COVID-related. Just think if he was actually able to live out his vision of promoting the Spring Game and bringing in recruits. I'm not giving him a pass while others' recruited their fucking faces off with competent, likable coaches. But it's a hell of a position for a first-time HC.
As for the season itself, you know Jen and Jimmy abhor Larry Scott as much as the rest of us. Think how many letters she's fielded about #FireLarryScott over the years from disgruntled season-ticket holders bitching about 8pm kickoffs. Furthermore, you don't think Jimmy realizes how second-rate the conference has become? So they had to play. And they wanted to play as originally scheduled, but when you have the brightest medical minds in the country talking about COVID-related heart conditions, what's Jimmy supposed to say? "Nah, they're just being too cautious. We can control this and we got it." This isn't the fucking myopic South.
Look, I hate the JohnDon hire and subsequent "Bo Schembechler" scheme. I hate Bob. I hate Jimmy's Pete Jr. personality when it comes to benching some dudes and not playing talent other spots. I hate how unexcited I am about signing day. The fact we lost Emeka and JTT is so disheartening. Yes, it feels like this year was make or break to right the ship after the most underwhelming 2019 season in recent Husky history. But it's a fucking pandemic. I guess I just don't know where to start in criticizing Jen for Jimmy's decision-making this season. Hell, more than half of this bored was chugging the Jimmy Comeback Kool-Aid post-Utah. Tell me how a better AD could have navigated 2020 from the start of the Lake Era to now. I'm ready to write the letter. I just need more understanding before I can blindly criticize what is arguably the most difficult situation for any CEO and business/department to navigate...ever.
Very reasonable post. My reply would be.
1. Jimmy should have felt more pressure than to think he could hire an asst to the Rb coach of the jaguars and leave shitty assts on payroll is pays more than other schools out west. Fitfo. 2. Jen should make sure jimmy feels the heat over this shit recruiting class. This has been foreshadowed for months. Now what we all suspected is happening is true. 3. Jimmy seems to lack self awareness and think he is smarter than everyone. That’s cool when you are but typically the smarter coaches hire smart ppl or coaches that are really good at something and hold them accountable while letting them excel. This needs to be addressed. See halftime deficits 4. I’ve said it before. I think Jen is smart enough to know she doesn’t know everything and hire a smart coach and get out of the way. Problem with that is Pete was good Maybe even great For uw given the circumstances before he came, but he needed an AD or someone to push him over the top and not just get out of the way. He never left his comfort zone and he knew it and saw what it would Take and got burnt out. Jen is not a leader. Now we are where we are. Low pressure for coaches and a shitty Dept.

Recency bias would give SC credit for a couple of natties this century
And the subject was conference titles and USC has some every decade like our DAWGS only more of them. SC won natties in the 60's, 70's and oughts. They dominated the Pac 10 with UW in the 80's and 90's
Then they hired Carroll
What schools like Bama did was fire the fuck out of everyone that did not win big. David Shula went 10-2 then got fired after losing 5 games the next year. Then Bama hire Saban

Upper campus has hated winning football teams since WW1. Nothing's changed with us.
Yet we've still had some really good runs at times.
Name 1 team that has consistently won their conference all time. Every team has down years even an ohio state or bama
Prolly not.
USC - lol.
No sport suffers from recency bias quite like college football. And no fanbase does it better than the DWAGs!
I watched Miamuh get their fudge packed by the Tar Heel. What the fuck has this world come to?
I watched the Youtube hightlights of the 2001 game the other night. That was more fun.
Sounds like the mid 2000s all over again.
Some of us? were still dooging back then and had hope that if Tawd and Ty were gone, the ship could be turned around. But it's painfully obvious now that no amount of replacing of ADs and coaches is going to make a difference. The UW will keep hiring the same type of people; people who are more concerned about sustainability and PR. This is not conducive to hiring a coach who is an actual winner... or recruiting players who are not necessarily here to play school.
The AD will keep doing the same dumbass things year in and year out. I don't even think they expect better results. Just win enough games to keep an adequate number of butts in the seats. They can always brag about player GPAs and graduation rates. That's great, but it would be even better if you were actually winning meaningful games and bowls.
I think this is spot on. Urban Meyer could decide he wants to coach the Huskies and bring every blue chip recruit west of the Mississippi to Montlake and our? program would still succumb to the same behavior after a brief period of success. The last vestiges of the national title-or-bust mentality is slowly getting bred out of the University and the conference. Until that rot is cut out at the root, we? best get used to the new world order.
Again, that might be fine for some people in the fan base, but it’s not OK for me.
We? should have known TPIO when Urban told Tawd to go fuck himself the first tim.
Comments
See halftime deficits
This is my hero behind a keyboard hot take.
Do the math
I have been culturally appropriated
