Vegas terror attack

The scariest thing to me is that I think no matter what we do legally/politically, we probably can't prevent some psycho from getting his hands on an AR and shooting up a crowd like this. People fucking suck.

Goddamn. 400+ yards. If he was using an AR, I'm surprised the 5.56 rounds still had enough juice to kill at that range. -
None of the largest shootings this year have been Muslim. There's a lot of shootings that go unnoticed by the media, like the one in Wisconsin last year.oregonblitzkrieg said:
Maybe, but you can't deny most terrorism ends up being Islamic in nature.AZDuck said:Blue moons are getting pretty common these days

Why does it have to be a liberal out a Muslim? So you think conservatives aren't fucked up too? There's no fucked up Christians?Southerndawg said:
Agree, it's not likely he was a last minute convert to the religion of peace making a pact with the ISIS AIDS. Card carrying AntiFa member seems a strong runner up, given the crowd he chose to take aim at. Or he could be another Bernie supporter shooting at "Republicans" on the field. Most likely he was just straight up whack job, which in this case is redundant abundance.TierbsHsotBoobs said:
By all chindications, it's domestic. The shooter was a 64 year old white guy from Mesquite, NV.Southerndawg said:
It's possible he had them legally, either by license or more likely, he could have fitted the gun(s) with bump fire stock(s), which are completely legal. These are inexpensive stocks that float, using recoil to allow for very rapid semi-automatic fire, nearly as rapid as fully automatic rifles fire. If you listen to the video footage, the rate of fire seems to vary quite a bit. This would be consistent with a semi-automatic rifle being fired with a bump fire stock.PineapplePirate said:No gun laws would have stopped this as he obviously had illegal automatic weapons. Curious to see how the media spins it. I hate when they make political statements out of dead people. They will blame someone or something.
But who knows, maybe he illegally modified the rifles or bought fully automatic weapons illegally. Really doesn't matter now, the fucker killed and maimed a lot of people. Apparently the sick fuck had at least ten rifles in his room, and he killed himself before before being shot or apprehended. Total coward. No doubt this was an act of terrorism. There is no other way to accurately describe it. Only question is whether it was domestic or foreign in nature.
@Swaye, excellent poast on both the gun control and abortion issues. Spot on, reasonableness in politics is gone.
For fucks sakes. How about we all agree on one thing. There's fucking wackos in every party and religion. -
What a difference easy access to firearms makes:
Terrorist piece of shit uses a knife outside main station in Marseille - kills two girls and is shot dead by cops.
And then there's Vegas.
Damn right I'm politicizing this. After fucking Newtown I believe the onus is on people who advocate for the protection of their 2d Amendment rights to come up with a system that enables us to have firearms without tens and hundreds of innocents getting blasted every few months.
We regulate other dangerous instrumentalities - alcohol, tobacco, cars to minimize the danger they pose to society at large.
So, gun rights advocates - how do we make them reasonably safe? -
Going off memory, the effective range of the 55-grain FMJ 5.56mm round is about 500 meters. Muzzle velocity of about 3000fps, and small cross-section means that air drag doesn't slow it down too quickly. Obviously hard to hit a single target at 500 meters without a serious scope, but easy to hit something, anything, when firing indiscriminately into a crowd.AZDuck said:

FWIW, we already do regulate firearms. We just don't regulate them the way we should. I decided in the early 1990s that I couldn't give money to the NRA after LaPierre and Co. went from advocating responsible gun ownership to resisting any kind of reasonable regulations.AZDuck said:What a difference easy access to firearms makes:

I am not sure what more regulations is going to do to solve mass shootings.
Unfortunately, they will continue.
I just hope we don't find out Race or Damone is Mr. Paddock. Two Angry old white men. -
I used to be way into distance shooting and built my own targets and used MJU-7 flare box tops (3/4" solid pine) on the inside to stop/slow down my rounds because I would be shooting in the open desert/forest.BearsWiin said:

A 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip out of a .223 at 400 yards would normally stop in the sixth board. An FMJ would would probably clear two or three more. A 165gr Speer Boat tail at 800 yards out of a .308 would go through 12 tops like butter. We could only get the angle right once, but my Lapua with a 300gr Berger Tactical cleared 25 tops at a mile. That's an insanely impressive weapon.
Humans are very soft. A .223 at 400 yards is still extremely lethal, obviously.
