It's clear his recruiting ranking was off so better to treat him as a 4 star. With that in mind, maybe the light will go off for him in the 2nd half of the season.

Let’s talk “tools.” Is he especially quick or fast? Is he a beast at the point of attack? Are his instincts special? I don’t see anything that stands out. I agree, give him more time, but it’s simply a prediction based on following the kid for 4-5 years.

It is racist, and yet it also has nothing to do with his need for S&C. His athleticism didn't scale as he grew, that's it. He's a SDE with above average athleticism for the position, not any type of pass rushing edge or blow shit up 1 gapper unless he's moving inside on obvious passing downs.backthepack said:

It's not a strange hill to die on, it's reality, as you pick and choose. Again, they couldn't FIND a place to play him in the AA game because every other player was better and/or more suited to their position. It's not his fault he grew into a tweener, but people are going to talk about a five star. He should have been dropped way down, but too many of those recruiting tards don't have the balls to back out of their two year old evaluations, so it gets doubled down. Go play a drinking game with people comparing him to Thibodeaux last year, or don't, you'll die. He's not a monster pass rusher or sideline to sideline guy, so what is he? Maybe a 3 year starter 2nd team all conference guy with next level potential, but again, he's not the guy doogs were sold on and now refuse to admit. Maybe the people criticizing him are racist, or maybe it's just simply an assumption that the guy who had 5 stars next to his name since he was 13 should be making plays, and a lack of plays signals a low motor. Personally, I'm not going to pretend to know if it's low motor or just lack of ability. Hopefully it's the former because that can be fixed. But either way he's done nothing to emerge at an impact position group that was decimated by injuries. Always LIPO. Smalls really wasn’t a monster in high school. He had like 3 sacks all season when he was a senior or something, which of course was worrisome.

People aren’t going to want to hear this but Washington high school football is…not great. And the 5* kids who come from WA (and OR when there is rarely one) get exposed when they’re no longer playing against a bunch of 5’8 165 lb white dudes and being able to dominate solely by being the most athletic guy on the field by miles.
