"It meant a lot to me," said Ioane. "I thought it was going to take longer for me to get an offer but all the hard work, for that to come, just meant a lot to me."
Ioane knew he made an initial impression at the PLU Rise Showcase, holding his own against more touted defensive linemen.
"After I did well playing left tackle, all of the attention came and I was grateful for it," said Ioane. "Coach (Eric) Kurle (at GK) had told me the week before the Washington camp that if I worked hard and did well and stayed on top of my grades, I'd get an offer."
Following the camp, Washington head coach Chris Petersen extended the offer to Ioane.
"When Coach Pete offered, I was speechless," said Ioane. "I didn't know what to say so I just said thank you and I was grateful for it."
There was also another conversation with Huff.
"I talked with Coach Huff and he's a good guy and he's really funny," said Ioane.
Ioane said he's watched a lot of film on former GK star Foster Sarell, now at Stanford, from his time playing left tackle for the Eagles.
"I watch Foster all the time, and I've learned from his stuff," said Ioane.
Ioane became the third South Sound offensive lineman in the 2022 class to land an offer from the Huskies, joining Puyallup (Wash.) lineman Dave Iuli and Federal Way (Wash.) Beamer linemen Malik Agbo.
"I know Malik and David and I'm not going to lie, it's pretty amazing we all have these offers already," said Ioane.
Ioane said he grew up watching the Huskies among a number of schools he's always watched and has interest in.
"I'm also interested in schools like USC, Oregon State, Oregon, Alabama and Clemson," said Ioane.
Since he's still to make his debut on varsity with the Eagles, Ioane knows he's got a long way to go.
"Every day I still have to get on top of things, be on top of everything, make all the liftings, do good in school and be ready for next season," said Ioane. "But the showcase and the UW camp were a good experience for me."
Ioane said his family was thrilled with the offer.
"They were pretty excited," said Ioane. "The only thing I heard from them is keep God first and everything will come my way."
"Apparently, at the PLU 11v11, Ioane completely shut down Sav'ell Smalls. I mean, shut him down to the point where Smalls tried to start a fight with him.
He's a pretty laid-back kid, but apparently he didn't back down from the top-rated, senior-to-be and was ready to go, but cooler heads prevailed."
Huff's recruiting is God-level already, but it may get even better the next few years with some of these kids comin' down the pipe (Ioane, Suamataia, Iuli, Agbo, etc).
