I actually like this kid a lot. We need more dread headed black kids that knock the fuck out of people like Bama has. Also not worried about his height. Bobby Wagner is 6'0, Ray Lewis is 6'0, Navarro Bowman is 6'0, Patrick Willis is 6'1, and Mike Singletary is 5'11.
Let me guess, you see a lot of Earl Thomas in Butta Baker.

Your confusing height with speed.
What film are you watching? His film shows speed and explosiveness. He chased down a WR from behind to prevent a 50 yard TD. He runs sideline to sideline stopping RB's in their tracks. When he reads run he can explode into the back field for a TFL. He just knows when to slow down and be patient while tracking the ball carrier laterally before exploding to make the tackle. He also shows playing making ability with the forced fumbles and one-on-one open field tackling. The kid can flat out play. I like him.

Most of those guys are insanely athletic, too. Wagner literally runs a 4.45 and has an 11" broad jump. Bowman runs a 4.6 but looks like he's been dipping into James Harrison's secret stash.
My problem with Bolton isn't that he's small. It's that he's small and he's not fast enough to go sideline to sideline. If he could fly like Bierria I would love to have him, but he can't.
Yeah he's chasing down 180 lbs high school kids most of whom run 5 second 40s or slower. You're right that kids get faster in college, but I doubt he'll be more than a 4.7-4.8 guy by the time he leaves college because people always dramatically overestimate how fast high school kids are to begin with. And yeah, I'm obviously going by the film because I'm not sure I believe that 4.9 40 time.

I've watched his film but I don't know shit about breaking down film. My opinion is based off of people on this board who I respect who have concerns about his speed to play at an elite college level.
No one gives a fuck that you played highschool football and that somehow gives you legit player evaluation skills. Why don't you take the time to listen to the TSIO podcast a few times and then pop off. He's a DDY 2, a useful player who we can win PAC 12 championships with. Great. I want players that can get us to the next level to compete against Alabama for Natties. From what it sounds like he isn't that type of guy so I'm not gonna jizz myself over him like you appear to be doing.

Yes he can fucking go sideline to sideline. Half of his highlights are of him going sideline to sideline. Are you just going by his 40 time or what? A lot of high school football players that don't run track run slower 40 times than their actual speed because they're not used to running out of a lower starting stance. The 40 is a skill most guys have to learn which is why Socha and his crew teach our current players the technique that goes into it. Bolton's film shows 4.6-4.7 speed and guys get faster in college. He's 235 lbs and chasing down 180 lb kids that should be faster than him but they're not. By the way Sirmon's official 40 time is 4.97 so according to you we're getting two slow MLB's. Brandon Kaho also ran a 4.82 40 which is slow as well. High school 40 times don't matter. It's about the film.
You are completely wrong. A 4.82 for a HS linebacker is FAST. It is rare rare rare for a linebacker at the NFL combine to run a 4.6-4.65. People throw that shit out but just look at the data, it's available out there.
Zach Cunningham and Anthony Walker, two of the most athletic linebackers in the draft last year ran 4.67 and 4.65 respectively at the combine. That is fucking flying. (Looking at you @backthepack)
If Bolton gets down to 4.8 in college that will be very good and he can be really good at that speed. If Kaho gets down to a 4.7 that would be elite for a linebacker his size.
A 4.9 is fine bet y'all by the time he is playing he's at a 4.6. He just could have had a shitty combine anyways.
First part of the sentence is good, then saying I bet he ends up running a 4.6 is bad. Unless he reminds you of Raekwon McMillan (who is an absolute freak of nature and ran 4.61).
1. He is slow over long spaces (hence the 4.9). 2. He has good acceleration. 3. He has good closing speed. 4. He hits crazy hard. 5. He is short. 6. He weighs a lot.
I can't figure out what is so hard to understand. No one runs fucking 4.6 for real. That's why like 5 guys at the combine ran 4.6 or better (the only guy to run better was Peppers you shit heads).
I am intrigued by @BallzDeep (much better than @BallSacked), but that 4.68 was hand timed bullshit or else he's 5-10, 195 and a freak.
40 times are very misleading. They are CORRELATED with other variables of interest (like acceleration and closing speed), probably more than any other easily interpretable measure of speed... but they, in and of themselves, don't mean shit.
This kid is not ever going to run 4.6. Five linebackers at the entire fucking combine ran 4.6. But it doesn't mean he sucks.
If he plays like that, were 6'3 and ran 4.6 Bama would've had him committed since he was 9.
This is all the more reason why Salvon's 4.3 weighing like 190 and 5'11.5 is unreal.
Bolton is good. But he's short and squatty. If he goes to Washington (he will), he will most likely be really good. If he came here under Sark he would suck.
Bolton lays dudes the fuck out. That's a skill that the Biggins types don't rate at a proper level compared to size/speed. A motor and love for contact are skills.
There has never been a great defense that doesn't hit hard. A typical 4 yard run where Cory Dennison made a tackle is different than a 4 yard run vs Victor and these Peterman teams. That's why I love Bolton. You need guys that love for contact and try to hurt the opponent.
I like Bolton a lot, but there is a reason Texas hasn't offered him. Bolton is a true football player but size and speed matter. We can't move him to FB if he can't cover a TE and with only 85 rides, there isn't room for a LB that can't cover a TE when needed.
