“No brand in the Group of Five has the value of the Pac-12 brand,” the industry source said. “If you have the brand, you own the history.”
his 'sources' fucking suck. the 'brand' of the pac-12 is fucking dead. the 'history' is with the teams that have bailed. walton isnt going to be able to say 'conference of champions' anymore, all those titles left town.

its fucking insane how much he reaches for shit.
I think there’s a ton of value in being 2 of the worst programs in PAC-2 history.
Lifeboats are getting pricey but at least everyone got one
How in the fuck will Cal (still too high) survive for the next 7 years? The 30 % can't even be $10 M (wasn't that the amount thrown around as additional travel costs by Jen?). And their stadium debt is MUCH WORSE than ours. (UCLA subsidy, much?)
Also, kind of amusing that SMU won't get any $$ until year 10. Holy fuck all.
Just shows how powerful and important a linear TV deal is with a major network
Seriously though is Cal counting on Calimony from UCLA to keep their athletic dept funded? There is no way they can afford that revenue number without cutting sports or tons of booster money.
Notre Dame is the most interesting since they voted yes for this. ND still treated like a top brand and isn’t killed by the ACC money like the rest of them.
But in some number of years FSU, Clemson, UNC and Miami are not going to be in that conference. Is ND going to want to be part of the remnants for their conference association? Especially if the football playoff ends up being run by B1G and SEC.

I'd love to be able to see the collective faces when it dawns on the brain trust at Cal that there's no money left for women's softball.
It seems like the best (crappy) option for OSU and WSU since it does not look like a Big-12 offer is coming. Ultimately, the P5 status would be gone, and any new media deal would much more closely resemble what the MWC currently has, but they'd have a full conference with a reasonable geographic region. This also probably puts them in a much stronger position to try to keep more of the Pac money and network assets than if OSU and WSU were to leave the Pac and join the MWC. If OSU and WSU are completely resigned to the idea that they are no longer going to be power conference teams, isn't this the best move they can make?

I thought Wazzu and OSU could go independent for a bit and have a scheduling alliance with the MWC like ND does with the ACC.

Yeah, but what would their TV deal look like for the 2024 season? I guess that could be a decent option if they can figure out the media side of things since it might make it easier for them to move to a better conference the next time conferences reshuffle.

Under this scenario, I imagine they keep most of the assets of the Pac-12 network and use it to compensate for whatever dimes and nickels ESPN or FOX hands out
If the best 8 teams from the MW joined OSU and WSU it would at least be the 5th best conference
Agreed. It's a scrappy little conference who should get an auto entry in the playoffs, at the start at least. I doubt it works out for very long as the separation between the haves and have nots is going to grow wider than ever.

Lmaooooooooooo, see y’all in Dallas!
Those schools are fucked for heading to the B1G/SEC now.

Feels like putting lipstick on a pig.
can their athletic budgets keep from imploding is the real question
