Florida governor joins Donald Trump in expressing reservations about American involvement in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a likely 2024 Republican presidential candidate, said Monday evening the U.S. shouldn’t necessarily help defend Ukraine against Russia’s invasion and instead focus its resources on issues closer to home.

“While the U.S. has many vital national interests—securing our borders, addressing the crisis of readiness within our military, achieving energy security and independence, and checking the economic, cultural, and military power of the Chinese Communist Party—becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them,” Mr. DeSantis said in a statement broadcast on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” on Fox News.

The statement was in response to a questionnaire Mr. Carlson’s show sent to all major prospective GOP presidential candidates.

“We cannot prioritize intervention in an escalating foreign war over the defense of our own homeland, especially as tens of thousands of Americans are dying every year from narcotics smuggled across our open border and our weapons arsenals critical for our own security are rapidly being depleted,” Mr. DeSantis said.

“Of course 2024 MAGA Republicans Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis would use Tucker Carlson’s platform to announce they’d rather side with Vladimir Putin than Ukraine and democracy,’’ said [@Mellodawg], spokesman for the Democratic National Committee. “This is just the latest example of how the race for the MAGA base means 2024 Republicans will take exceedingly extreme positions, even if it undermines our allies and democracy.”

The governor’s statement is an expansion of remarks he made on “Fox & Friends” last month when he argued current U.S. policy in relation to Ukraine has been “effectively a blank check.”

Mr. DeSantis’ statement places him in a position similar to one taken by former President Donald Trump, who called the war “disastrous” during a campaign appearance Monday evening in Davenport, Iowa, and said if re-elected he would work to rapidly negotiate an end.

Both men have taken positions in contrast to strong support for Ukraine offered by other declared and prospective GOP presidential candidates, including former Vice President Mike Pence, former United Nations ambassador and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina.

DeSantis and Trump are wrong on this issue. I'm with Pence, Haley and Scott on this one.

IDK what securing the border and reducing overdoses has to do with Ukraine, and a country like the US can do anything it sets its mind do.
    Which Scott?
    Richard or Tim?

PGOS gets his hot takes from Michael.

    Of the Coney Island Scotts.

I just dont want to misunderstand who pgos is aligned with.
    Pence..an establishment spineless coward (imo)

Haley and Richard Scott are WEF young global leaders graduates.
Notice the names on this growing list of WEF graduates who are doing Claus Schwab's bidding in our government.

They are loyal to the globalist WEF agenda, which is, ipso facto, opposed to individual state autonomy.

They love international panels stuffed with academics, retired pols and lobbyists, like the WTO, WHO, EU, etc. Anything that erases borders and turns people into widgets to be exploited is what they call "order."

Fuck these imbeciles who live every day in denial of reality and cannot wait to send US kids to fight meaningless wars overseas to protect their power and profits.

I have been happy to see Russia exposed for the bumbling inept dolts that they apparently are, but I sort of always knew that Putin would never let this go, and population and military capacity would one day catch up to Ukraine. This is Alamo shit. The Texans fought valiantly but at some point the ammo ran low and 4000 vs. 200 just gets overwhelming.
Russia is a slow moving, inefficient giant blob, like always. The blob doesn’t care about losses and will eventually get its shit together, like always.

PGOS expected them to move like seal team 6 into Kiev and then the English Channel in a few months if we didn’t intervene.
    Check the facts.

Everyone expected them to take over most of Ukraine. Then likely Moldova, Khazakstan, Georgia, etc.
    Who is everyone?

Are the Russians engaged in a war with Moldvoa, Khazakstan or Georgia at this time?

At the start of the war, there was no one - mainstream, underground, on twitter, etc. who thought Russia was not going to have a successful Special Military Operation, comrade.

Even your boy Biden was telling him to GTFO out of Kyiv on the next jet.
    And about the other republics?

Russia has been harassing damn near everyone that is a neighbor and former Republic since Putin came to power. They invaded Georgia in 2008. They invaded Ukraine. They had plans to invade Moldova after Ukraine (as revealed by Lukashenko) and had plans (leaked) to then oust Lukashenko and de facto take over Belarus.

But yeah, its really going out on a limb to suggest they wouldn't do the same thing in the Stans, Georgia, Armenia, and other former USSR footprints....

    Sounds terrifying.
Sounds like a wannabe USSR trying to conquer people who already achieved independence to me
You warned us about USSR 2.0. When does Russia go to 5 million men under arms like they had during the cold war? If Moldova is a critical issue for Europe, then Germany and the rest of western Europe can sign up for Team NATO, World Police. But they won't because of the neocon's support for the MIC and eternal war. Otherwise known as chumps, which is how we have been treated by the Euros.

Yeah, Pence went full John McCain on TC's questionnaire. Interestingly, Nikki Haley, who for some reason thinks that the Jeb Bush wing of the republican party gives her a chance, refused to participate. If you can't deal with Tucker your certainly prepared to be CIC.

Last year the talking point was Russia was going to go to Poland next. No one talks about that anymore, so they have to shift to things we care even less about to continue to justify our involvement.

Well, I'm certainly taking this seriously as the opportunity to make the US wealthy giving more cold war weapons to Moldova. Plus I've got the Moldovan flag ready to go as virtue signaling my support is critical.

If Trump can negotiate a decent deal then let him. I voted for him twice and he did some good things, and some dumb things

To his credit this nonsense may have not started with him as president (Russia did nothing during his tenure)

But if he is trying to negotiate a ceasefire as Ukraine is ramping up for a major offensive, that actually helps Russia out a lot here.

Desantis is playing up to the isolationist aspect of the Republic party, which is fine.

But pretending like the US cant give money to Ukraine and secure the border at the same time is just false. Our country does not lack for funds, it lacks for beaurocratic efficiency

Seems like I agree with the Dems and 75% of Republicans in congress by thinking Ukraine is a worthy cause.

Seem like I agree with Republicans when it comes to the border.

According to you clowns, this means I hate America.

If that were the case, Russia should have no problem taking over Bahkmut while thousands of Ukranian soldiers get trained on better gear in Europe and the US, right?

But then again, you still think Russia is going to essentially take over all of Ukraine. So you're not exactly living in what we like to call -- reality.

I also know you don't like Zelensky.

Where we disagree is that I am fine with the status quo and don't think it has any impact over life here in the states domestically.
