He’s a more athletic Taulapapa. Does the same things he does well, blocks in the pass game, catches the ball well out of the backfield but he’s a little faster. He’d be a nice addition.

Did you just say Taulapapa catches the ball well?

He caught that one TD (above). That was pretty bad ass. All I remember after are drops though

21 receptions 9.9ypr. Did I mention I think Johnson is a bigger, stronger, faster version of WT? He’s a good get.

I think he is from a talent standpoint, but he never stays healthy.

As a pure playmaker, sure. But Wayne was far and away the best pass blocking RB, which was a huge element to the offense this year

Newton looks like he is running hard, but he still goes down pretty easily. He had a couple very well blocked runs vs Texas where he had to make one guy miss and he never did.
Exactly. He can definitely make a play from time to time, but he leaves about 3 on the table for every one he cashes.

There's a reason Davis was the main platoon and started to get more carries in the red zone than anyone. He's a really safe bet to get some yards. He does everything full speed, full power and sells out to get positive yardage and fall forward. It's frustrating because he leaves some big plays in the table that Newton would probably make.

We've been parsing which guys suck or don't suck at every aspect of playing the position since Gaskin left, trying to piece together who is the best available. I'm over it and wish they'd find a couple of complete running backs.
Part of the reason was Boner couldn't recruit RBs and was exceptionally lucky with Gaskin committing to UW

The exodus of 3 RB when DeBoer took over, along with the portaling of 4 RBs (Papa, Nixon, Dumas, and Ngata) into the program, and the comments all spring about the surprising lack of depth speaks to the RB-by-committee approach this year.

Some of the RBs on the roster have flashed but are inconsistent. Hopefully Johnson transfers in tomorrow since the more RBs the better a chance we have one that produces at a high level
