Three things:
1. Right or wrong, it makes no fucking difference. This shit represents a serious threat to Pete and his staff's ability to land the kind of players we need.
2. This modern era of 'tell them to go fuck themselves' is Marvel Movie blustery bullshit. You want to draw 5mil from UW every year? This is part of that job. It's a fucking disgrace that our populous now thinks that pragmatism is stupid and posing like you're in a fucking Batman movie is the way to get things done.
3. Last, it's not just Beach and Garfield that feel this way. As long as UW is handing out offers like candy to out of state kids (see the past week) and waiting to offer in state kids (again, see the past week) this will be a perception. I know for a fact that this is a narrative that's developed ACROSS THE STATE in the last year or so. This is just the beginning of this.

Part of the whole thing is playing politics and perception is often greater than reality (I know this as well as anybody) ...
The thing that we ultimately have to reconcile is that our out-of-state offers are because the talent is better than what we have in-state and if we want to make the leap then we need more elite players ...
We have to be forthright with our in-state targets and whatnot letting them know where they stand ... if we ask them to be candid with us we must do the same or risk losing credibility ...
That being said there are a lot of idiots at the HS level that like to think they are the shit when in reality they are shit ... I don’t blame Pete for wanting to avoid that mess ... but Dennis is right that for better or worse massaging those egos is part of the deal -

Something went on with Harrison’s recruitment. I wish we were getting him, but it’s obviously a strange case.
Smalls is a big time recruit. We offered him as a freshman. He still has over a year until he commits and around two years until he signs. Things change in recruiting all the time -
If UW keeps winning 10- 12 games per year and continues to be a legit CFP contender, the elite in-state kids will come here. Winning football games trumps all this other fucking minutia.

As long as we're winning, kids will want to play for us, especially local kids. In order for us to win, we have to take the best talent we can, and much of that is often out of state. I don't get the sense even for a second that Pete prefers out of state kids. If anything we probably give them a slight bump up our board.
I'd much rather we win and have a couple local coaches bitch and moan than return to the dark decade of the '00s where we sucked, we couldn't get any west coast talent, but we offered white cornerbacks from West Seattle HS to make local coaches happy. -
