Penei Sewell and Savell Smalls are now posting that they support this idiocy. In all likelihood, this will blow over in a week.
This would never happen but this is one time I'd like to see the universities, conferences, etc. come together with a joint statement that says (in nicer terms) "You're getting a free scholarship and a pathway to an industry where you stand to make millions. No you can't have 50% of the revenue, you selfish motherfuckers. Are you out of your minds? Do you not understand basic economics? Now go play football and enjoy your free school, room, board, meals, etc. or quit the fucking team, pay your own way into school, and send your workout videos to NFL scouts."

Fuck you ya little bitches - you want to distribute 50% of each sport’s total conference revenue evenly among athletes in their respective sports? GET FUCKED!! These fucking retards have no concept of operational expenses. They have no concept of profit margin, how thin they are and that most universities are operating athletics in the red.
I can and have been doing well without these stupid fuckers. Haven't given a shit about who the QB will be, how our 100% new secondary will hold up - just don't fucking care.
Been doing fine poundin the wives, bike riding, running and watching Netflix.

Everything about this post is cringe, but maybe nothing more than seeing a grown man use the word retard
Fag
I totally get it man. If I was a Utah fan I’d be looking for any excuse to separate myself entirely (d.e.n.n.i.s.) from that mediocre program. I’m sure you’ve been preparing for this moment every day, one day at a time, since the Pac12 title loss.

If this had emerged unto itself a few years ago, my take on it would have been different.
But right now, August 2020, my immediate suspicion is that Marxists are behind this and the revenue will be funneled to BLM, which is not going to actually help black people, but rather to fund the anti-capitalist, anti-west Marxist agenda. This is part of a full-on assault of America. If the Pac12 resists, they will be threatened with hell to pay.
Can't tell if serious or not
100% serious. I can see it from a mile away.
I imagine that once the Marxist's have all the players money, they'll be able to keep the identity of Scalia's killer a secret forever.
I think scholarship athletes are pretty well compensated and there are hundreds (thousands?) of candidates wishing for the opportunity who dont quite make the cut. I'm sure there will be plenty of willing, available, and qualified applicants if a few dozen pac 12 athletes choose to seek other career paths.
I don't see how these players have any leverage. Some of what they want may be reasonable, but it's all bogged down and obscured by them trying to overplay a weak hand in a the wrong situation.
Imagine doing a college sport just for love of the game and to be part of a team. And then you get a free education out of it. Wow, the kids need to take a walk on the beach to gain some perspective.
If this had emerged unto itself a few years ago, my take on it would have been different.

This take is up there with the qanon psychos who think trump is secretly killing celebrities and replacing them with clones.
I have no idea how you get from players wanting to share in the value they create and have health & safety standards to... Marxist plot? Wut?
Poopduck is an absolute Nazi Hangout rn. Jevon Holland came on the bored to Express his thots, and poasters kept poasting about how they wanted Holland to break his leg and lose his career in football. They called him a libtard and it seems like they didn't like his demands. I took screenshots however, and I'm working to get them out on Tweeter soon. Oregon's class must fall apart. Their fanbase doesn't support their players. I'm working with Bucktooth Beaver and CFBquotes to get this news out.
COVID-19 related protections including opt-out options and safety standards
This shouldn't be controversial and it would appear as if many of the P12 programs have good protections in place. The "bubbles" that these athletes are going to be in during COVID in many respects are going to be far safer than the general population if those inside the bubbles adhere to what is being asked of them.
Larry Scott, Administrators, and Coaches to take pay cuts
Larry Scott is overpaid ... that's obvious. Not because he's bad at what he does but when you place his compensation into market comparables to his peer conference commissioners. Athletic Directors (and the like) are key executives that are overseeing organizations with $100-$200M of revenue in them. Could I argue that Jen Cohen is overpaid? Absolutely. I'd also be lying to you if I said someone responsible for an organization approaching $200M in annual revenue shouldn't be making in the high 6-figure range. That's actually market comparable. Coaches are also tied to market dynamics. It's fine to say that compensation should be reduced. But the going rate is what is someone willing to pay. If college salaries go down you'll find many of the coaches go to the NFL and the quality of coaching at the college level is reduced. So there's a careful what you wish for aspect that needs to be considered here.
End Performance/Academic Bonuses
Not really sure what the point of this is ... holding high level employees/executives responsible for their performance is part of the job. For a college coach, their 2 biggest objectives are winning games/championships and ensuring that their student athletes are being successful in the classroom. I don't really view these items as being material issues. You can take the compensation for this out of the system and you're really not saving a bunch of money in the grand scheme of things. It's largely a rounding error.
End lavish facility spending and use endowment funds to protect sports
I call bullshit here. Many athletes cite facilities as a key aspect of their decision making process in what schools to attend. What we're really talking about here is the quality of one's working arrangements and that's not something that is true just for college football, but true throughout any kind of recruiting situation. As for using a school's endowment on sports, again, total bullshit. It's one thing to talk about Athletic Departments being flush of cash and shutting down programs. It's another to suggest endowments for the general university that cover far more tied to general school operations, research, etc. should fund athletics. I support the value of athletics as much as anybody. But in the grand scheme of things, athletics at the University level is a small % of the total picture. So if it came down to giving parts of endowments to sports or Universities making decisions to shut down sports completely ... be careful what you wish for.
End Racial Injustice in Sports/Society by creating among other things civic task forces made up of leaders of the players choice, direction of 2% of student aid for low income Black students, community initiatives, and development programs
So much of this just leaves me a tad confused. First, how was 2% of student aid arrived at? Why 2%? Why not 3% or 5% or 1%? Second, with all due respect to the players, we are talking about 18-22 year old kids here. How many of them are well versed enough to know who the right leaders are to be their advocates? Or, is as @DerekJohnson pointed out, is this really a situation where the P12 student-athletes are going to surround themselves with an organization(s) to be their mouth pieces where the players think that they are being advocated for? But perhaps the reality is that those organizations will be using the P12 athletes for their platform?
Additionally, I'm all for everything that is going on in terms of promoting equality and equal opportunities going forward. With that said, that's where I really question whether allocating student aid for a certain segment of a population makes sense. We've talked in this country about free tuition for all and whatnot. I'm not for that either. But something that I am open to thinking about is an idea that if you are the first generation of your family to go to college, you receive a full scholarship. If we want to talk about opening up scholarship opportunities to those of low income I'm all for talking about that. We're talking about increasing opportunity right? We're talking about leveling the playing field of those items that make it difficult to achieve the American Dream like the $$$ needed to attend college? Can we have equality and fair treatment for all when we create divisions within the system?
Medical Insurance provided for 6 years after exhaustion of eligibility
This shouldn't be that controversial in my mind. That said, many of the more debilitating medical related items will come after the 6 year period. I'd recommend including some kind of language related to those kind of situations. However, I do think it's also important to have a discussion about the fact that we know football in particular isn't the safest sport in the world. At some point, playing the sport results in an implicit assumption that you're aware of the risks that you're signing up for. I don't feel like at this point it's a credible argument any more to say that one didn't understand that playing football carries significant risk associated with it.
Ability to earn money on name/image/likeness and secure representation
There's movement in this direction and I don't think many are opposed to it. There's also a lot that needs to be flushed out to make sure that the process works well for all involved. It's not just as simple as saying it should happen and therefore it does immediately.
Distribute 50% of a sports conference related earnings to that sport's athletes
I saw others talk about overhead expenses and that's accurate. Coker noted on twitter that there's a component of over-spending due to making sure that as a non-profit these athletic departments don't show significant profits and that's right as well. 50% of earnings seems to be taken from a professional standpoint with infrastructure between player/owner splits. There's aspects to this that will not work well because of the college system of revenue driving sports having to fund non-revenue driving sports. As long as Title IX is in play that's a real consideration that makes the college dynamic apples/oranges versus professional models. I'm not against having discussions on this topic but it's a delicate and slippery slope. What qualifies as distributions? I'm assuming that players would argue that this should be in addition to their scholarships.
6 year athletic scholarships to cover both undergraduate and graduate educations
For years I've heard athletes talk about how the academic part of their scholarships wasn't valuable ... now we want to throw graduate school education on top of that? I don't really feel like this makes a ton of sense for a number of reasons. Entry into graduate school is a challenging endeavor for many. I'm all for entry into graduate school for college athletes that have earned the ability to do so based on their merit as a student. But it's not a right.
Elimination of all restrictions of freedom of speech, charity work, or participation of on-campus activities
This is the one that maybe raised my eyebrow the most. Most of the demands from the players is moving down the direction of wanting to be treated more as employees than students ... and that's fine. This one is basically saying that they don't want to be treated as employees but more as students. We all have freedom of speech. But so do others. Freedom of speech does not protect you from an employer deciding that they don't want to associate with you anymore. Or an advertiser deciding that your messaging isn't consistent with their brand. This just feels like a "be careful what you wish for" type of request where players want both ends of the spectrum without being responsible for any outcomes.
Ability to transfer once without penalty and more than once in cases of abuse or gross negligence
I feel like we're moving in this direction and this really isn't that controversial on the once without penalty. I don't really have an issue with the additional opportunity to transfer freely due to abuse or gross negligence. I'd also like to know what that will be defined as ... it can't be super arbitrary. Abuse or negligence has to be more than "I'm not getting the playing time" that I want.
Ability to return to school if failing to be drafted after declaring
I'm torn on this one. I don't have an issue with it. But I'd rather have a far more robust process on the front end where players are well advised with what their outlook is and make a decision based on those facts. With respect to someone like Ahmed, most knew that he wasn't going to be drafted anything higher than deep on Day 3 and the risk of being undrafted was high. I'd be fine with allowing people to attend the NFL Combine and make decisions to pull back out of the draft similar to the NBA. But this is akin to me to leaving your current company without a secured future and then when you realize that the job market isn't what you think it is saying that you have the right to go back to your prior company. That company needs to be able to move on, plan for life without you, etc.
In the end, the overarching theme to me is that the players want to hold the schools/coaches/administrators responsible and that's great. But let's also be clear while going down that path that if they are entering into a contract for greater accountability that they also need to be subjected to greater accountability.
They want ALL sports to remain operational. And they want 50% of the revenue.
I wonder if they would be down for bus travel and staying in shit level hotels. Ya know because it’s about keeping the other sports operational.
Shut the universities down. If we are producing kids that think that adds up they should be ashamed of themselves.
If they think it’s smart to recommend pay cuts to the very staff that controls your playing time and how hard you’re worked and assessments for the nfl or future employers you are also not smart.
In addition to that, most schools have already implemented pay cuts. But don’t let logic get in the way of a ‘movement’.
With that said I was young and stupid once. But i refuse to acknowledge that much lack of logic on putting my name to something and any point in my 18-22 year old life.
Penei Sewell and Savell Smalls are now posting that they support this idiocy. In all likelihood, this will blow over in a week.

48 is pretty damn close to 50, and I think I see your turnip truck heading back out of town if you think you begin negotiating with the number you actually want to get.
All that being said, this is great posturing/positioning by the players regarding a season of football that won't be played now, later, or ever. Easy to make statements about withholding your labor that isn't even in demand at the moment.
Also, to not make demands when the CFB industry is so baldly desperate for the revenue would be foolish. They've never had a better negotiating position, and will likely never have a better one. Since the season won't be played, this at least moves the CFB Overton window substantially in the direction of college athletes as professionals, and likely, in the end, the death of "big time" college sports.

Of those players maybe a few could make some money off their name and likeness. All for it.
The 50% thing is dumb. If they want a nfl model many of these guys wouldn’t make it past their sophomore season when the coaches reevaluate their original assessment the players potential.
When you factor in the costs of a full ride for an out of state student and then the best players will want more vs the depth guys, you get a lot of college drop outs with a little extra money in their pocket.
On one side I would hope some people that understand this would help temper some of the players ideas. On the other side, the cynic in me says let it happen and introduce these guys that have been coddled as superb athletes most of their short existence have to face reality.
@Tequila, thanks for an honest attempt at breaking down the demands instead of automatically dismissing reasonable requests. Obviously, not all scholarship sports will stay viable under a revenue share split. The college model is broken the players bring in significantly more than their scholarships at Power 5 school. That’s a fact it can’t be argued. There is a problem when everyone accepts mostly white coaches making 9.1 million per season while exploiting primarily African American/ Brown players is disturbing and follows American History. They are not spoiled they are part of a multi billion dollar industry where they are the product responsible for the billions.

I'm with them. Divorce football and universities.
