What's your opinion of the white female executive with her dog in the park that called the cops and said a black man was threatening her life? you've seen the video?
It's an indictment of the entire white race

    You didn’t answer the questions.
Blacks and whites have a responsibility to work hard to get ahead. A higher % of blacks are born into poverty because their parents, grandparents, and ancestors have. Lower income families can't afford to pay for education needed to move beyond the poverty level. Making education more affordable provides the opportunity to get over the hump, an equal opportunity for the starting line. Much of the rest of it is attitude on an individual level. I agree, the government can't change that part of it. They can, however, outlaw and enforce exclusionary clubs. I'm assuming most here, have "black friends". Allow them to join clubs and interact more with whites. Play 18 and a game of cards in the clubhouse afterwards. A small step, yes but send the message they are equal. Germany outlawed Nazi paraphernalia, Why have we allowed Confederate monuments and flags for so long? Germans, as a whole are among the top in productive workers and their government has outlawed monuments glorifying historical oppressive regimes.

My "black friends" don't want a free lunch, they want us to actively join them and condemn discrimination, cop brutality, longer sentences for blacks who committed the same crimes as whites, to name a few.

I think I answered your question?
    Good talk, Throbber. Actually.

Everyone has a responsibility to work hard if they want to ahead. Yesterday @Bob_C said blacks first need to earn the perception before they can be trusted. So, the earnest black has to prove he's worthy of that trust? Do us earnest whites have to prove we are worthy of trust for the actions of white degenerates and Klan members? How come I can pay an initiation fee and join any golf club but a black with same bank account can't?
Fuck, all I was saying is that you can’t just tell people to think differently and biases will be magically solved. Attack the core issues head on from both sides (has to be both or it’ll never work as we’ve seen) and over time you can shift the subtle thinking that you claim is keeping black people down. Profiling is never not rooted in something. I agree that it’s not good and a hinderance, and not inherently fair. It’s a symptom though, not a cause.

Just making this a one sided problem is effectively saying that black people aren’t up to the task of fixing their own lives. I’m claiming they are, but that is racist it sounds like.

It is. We can say it's not fair, judging all whites for her actions. Maybe you wouldn't do that, but too many whites do. Blacks burning shit and looting isn't right, either.

Again, I would hope we all raise the level but I can't change you. I'm bothered I haven't done more. I'd fight for our country but why haven't I stood up for black Americans? That troubles me. Not your problem, it's on me.

Don't know. Its hard. We need to do more. Not with reparations. Funding education for real world skills, providing more assistance for lower income families, black and white is one place to start. We're taxed on income, why can't we add a modest payroll tax to those who receive assistance to repay the taxpayers for sums, plus interest, they received? Lifting more out of poverty not by free subsidies makes sense. Like it or not inner city blacks turn to crime because they don't have the opportunities we do. Working at McDonalds or scrubbing toilets doesn't feed your family. We import skilled Indian and Chinese engineers, doctors, and high tech workers. They earn big salaries. Education in China and India is more affordable and those foreigners take jobs that could go to Americans who get the skills.

There is systemic racism through our society. Both candidates are racist and pretend they're not. I agree, voting for a black president because he's black isn't the answer. It starts with us. Calling bullshit on black jokes. Making an extra effort to stop and holding doors for black women. Going out of your way to engage black people. A simple hi, nice weather. Writing letters to local elected officials demanding they support and protect blacks: firing police chiefs that tolerate racist cops. Quit blaming old broken policies other parties enacted. I honestly don't have all the answers but these are places we can start.

I can't control others but I can control me. By keeping quiet, unwittingly I've been part of the problem. I called a few of my "black friends" yesterday and asked what white people can and should do. Both independently gave me similar answers. It was damn uncomfortable at first but they both thanked me for asking and listening. They mostly want our awareness and understanding. They want our support in calling out racists. They want our support promoting black lives matter. White lives already matter. Black lives haven't mattered. They're right. Both denounced looting. I didn't ask because I hadn't seen the picture Damone posted but I don't think they'd support shitting on cars.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I've just chosen to speak my mine. Going forward, I'm choosing to be different. I think we all should. Whether you guys choose the same, is up to you.

Like it or not inner city blacks turn to crime because they don't have the opportunities we do.

Pure crap and one of the key reasons why we have the problems we do have today.

    I will counter with this.

BLACK leaders need to lead and tell their constituents to man the fuck up and quit making horrific choices, quit killing one another and take advantage of the greatest system of opportunity ever known the world. And in doing so, they should point to the Irish, the Catholics, the Italians, the Koreans, the Vietnamese, the Indians and the Hispanics for their respective Carpe Diems. They were all equally hated coming up and just did the work. JUST DO THE FUCKING WORK and take away the crap that the left feeds them to stoke their anger. Listen to the middle 80% of people who support hard work and reward/consequences and quit focusing on the 10% of nutcases on either side- there's some shitty white people out there, that's for sure. Your homeys should be listening to that 80% instead of fretting about the fringe fuckheads.

Instead, we want to revisit 160 years ago. That shit ain't changing - it was what it was. The good guys won.

Yeah, they should and I think many black leaders have. But the media doesn't tell those stories.
Obama used to do a little of that when he first started running for President. He got hammered by Jesse Jackson and the other racial hustlers and it was one of the key reasons why early on we were being treated to articles written by black people on whether Obama was really black or black enough. After Jesse attacked him for "blaming the victim" that part of Obama's message was shelved.

I don't take issue with the statement "Black Lives Matter" and I don't feel the need to offer the retort "All Lives Matter". I understand the point and think it's a valid one.

ATBSJBS, I do take issue with the specific political "movement" which uses that name and some of their core beliefs. For example...

We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.
    https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-we-believe/

I support doing all that we can to improve equality of opportunity in America, which is what will make Black Lives Matter at the end of the day. I will not be putting up a yard sign or changing my social media profile pics though.

You mean you don't support defunding the police?

And I get that but the change starts with us. I'd be lying if I said I haven't carried biases. I live on a private (not gated) street If I see a strange black person drive in, my first reaction is what are they up to? it's not the same as a white person. Call me a racist, but quite honestly, that's my first reaction. I wasn't born with it, my parents and grandparents influenced me. I'm trying to be more open and understanding.

Not going to happen. Any black who pushes that message is immediately called a sell-out and an uncle Tom. Black Democrat Pols no longer push that message.

    Let me ax you this:

My grandfather was an alcoholic grave-digger who lost everything between the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression...son of an immigrant cattle rancher who spent the remainder of his life doing odd jobs at barely subsistence level. My grandmother took in laundry and ironed for the more well off in town. By everything I've been told - they were the poorest of the poor in a very small town. Through no fault of their own, natural disaster and market forces put them way behind the 8 ball.

My father joined the military and served his country in Korea, Okinawa and Tokyo followed by a stateside tour as a recruiter for the Air Force for almost a decade. He then went back to college and earned his degree, worked for over three decades (most times doing three jobs because teachers made shit in those days) and put two kids through college. There were no vacations, there were no luxuries like going out to dinner (maybe once or twice per year...maybe - a big deal was getting a root beer float at the local A&W), there were no new cars. Many times the Throbber felt the sting of income inequality when his classmates drove new cars or hit the country club pool or played hoops at the nice gym at the local athletic club or spent their summers at their lake cabins. Or had the better clothes or cool sunglasses or the newest technology like a Walkman.

The Throbber built on that and has a moderately successful career, married a smoking hot version 1, lost everything in the divorce and started over again going to new heights with Mrs. Throbber v2.0.

    CSB, I know.

And you want a 'rightful' equal place at the starting line? Which starting line? Where is the personal responsibility and work put in to get to the 'starting line' and overcome whatever adversity is presented as a result of personal decisions?

Seems our families etc. have been through similar experiences my dad's side were poor as dirt made more difficult by his father dying when he was a child. All that white privilege sure didn't help anyone in my family. My other grandfather was sent to the U.S. by his family from Italy. He was the oldest of 11 kids. He was 15 and they sent him here to work and hopefully send a little money back. He suffered the slings and arrows of being a Dago, WOP etc. etc. Worked his ass off and did well for himself. At one job he worked so hard that when he quit to start his own business it took three men to take over his job.

Work ethic is missing in most all of the younger crew. Watch a few of the interviews with looters. We owe them all this and if we don't give it to them they'll take it! If that's the common thought process this won't be getting easier in the future.

So really this entire screed of yours is just projection on account of your own racism. You see a black person and you immediately suspect them of something? Wow

    Thoughts

    1. Black Lives Matter. Saying otherwise is ignorant, BLM isnt saying ONLY black lives matter. Some people need to learn the difference.

    2. That is an interesting point you bring up about the Confederate statues. It's usually an issue I dont care about being a PNW native far removed, but I see where youre coming from. Statues are typically reserved for those on the right side of history. Not all Confederates owned slaves or were fighting for for slavery, but still not a great look to lobby for their creation

    3. Stop with the "my forefathers did something bad" sob story. This is fucking embarassing. The past should be learned from, not a spectre that looms over everything. History is full of butchery, slavery, rape, and misery. Every culture had those horrible things. You say your ancestors chained and enslaved...who sold the slaves to them? It was other Africans selling those conquered in war.

No culture has an innocent past so stop with the grovelling.

    4. The cities with the worst looting (like Minneapolis) have been run by the self proclaimed allies of black people for 50 years. Are things better in those cities now than they were 50 years ago?

Maybe, just maybe, politicians are charlatans and the whole system needs a revamp, and not just because of the murder of George Floyd

    5. The "I have black friends" talking point is fucking cringe. Almost everyone does that isnt a racist piece of shit.

Tried to make friends with some black kids in 5th/6th grade years during integrated busing in the city and got nothing but shit talking and a couple punches for being a white boy who was better than most of the kids at basketball. Tried again years later by walking in to Larry's Night Club in Pioneer Square (the place where Ken Hamlin took a street sign to the head) and was surprised I made it out alive. I wonder if black people who don't have white friends are also racist pieces of shit?

Yes, this comment is a little too literal, but you took a talking point that is ridiculous to use as a qualifier for someone to prove they're not racist and then used it in the inverse to make an equally ridiculous statement. There aren't many black people in Kitsap County.

Do you indict the entire black race?

    Its textbook racism

Most people don't take supposed systemic racism seriously because it's clear as fuck that the "black community" does a far better job holding themselves down than anyone else ever could.

This is an uncomfortable topic for many...but the Chinese were used as slaves as well. Tacoma/Seattle was a hub for poor Chinese and railway workers.

Why does the Chinese community and other minority groups earn MORE on average than whites today?

Hard fucking work, doing well in school, stable family units...all contribute

I have a 'black friend" (yeah, fuck...no other way to describe it). Teacher. Shows his students HOW to carry themselves in a job interview, why it's important to not sag their pants or wear whatever fashion might be in vogue - explains to them that business is for the customers not for their own personal style. Demands they dream BIG. Holds them accountable for their work and attendance. Greets every single one of them every day with a hug and an "I love you'.

    He's just a dude.

The guy posts stories of their successes. Business owners, graduates of Ivy League schools, all sorts of solid accomplishments - and it's not just black kids, it's ALL kids.

Set the standard, do the work toward the standard, hold accountable/correct behaviors, keep working. That's leadership. Not some bullshit Yes We Can sermon to rake votes.

The one thing my friend did tell me - his father once wisely said "Don't worry about what others are saying about. What they say is none of your business".

Uncle Tom should become the racial equivalent of Godwin's Law. Once you go down that path, argument lost. Most people don't even understand the historical significance of Uncle Tom any way.

If you think more taxes, funding and more government bureaucracy will do anything but makes things worse, you're delusional. Decades of data says so.

Why are black voices who hold a different contradictory opinion of the lefts version problem and solution drowned out?

Actually, A higher % of blacks are born into poverty on account of the fact that over 70% of all black children are born out of wedlock. Black kids that are born into a intact two parent family have less than a 2% chance of being born into poverty.

Why do you hold black people to such ridiculous low standards? Are black people not capable of postponing having children until they get married? Do you encourage your children to have kids out of wedlock?
