Yep ... which is why I generally save scotch drinking for special occasionsYellowSnow said:
This issue @Tequilla is that if you like cooler beverages, single malt whisky is not for you. The dilution from ice just ruins scotch simply put. Only exception to this IMO is something like a Japanese high ball- i.e., blended scotch with some club soda.Tequilla said:
No, it means that you like drinking cooler beverages than warmer beveragesPandaOrangeChiknDuck said:I will add, drinking Lowland scotch is like drinking piss.
Never drink scotch on the rocks or with an ice ball. It shows you're a novice, and likely a gigantic wuss. If the scotch is too strong, just give it literally a single drop or two of water. It changes the entire makeup of your pour.
There are very few things I have any desire to drink at room temperature
If you like cold whiskey, best to stick with old fashioned or Manhattan. Or your go to of bourbon and coke.
It can get watered down at the end if you pour too big of a glass ... why I try to go far smaller pouring size -
Try whisky stones. On the rocks used to literally mean adding cold stones from the river. As much as ice dilutes, it also dumbs your tongue to subtleties. The rocks don't get it that coldTequilla said:

This is certainly better that ice. But just get a pair of stones and drink a 60 degrees like it's meant to be.minion_doog said:

I’m far more on the cold side than watered down side ... unless I just don’t like the scotch that much -
If I like my ICE can I fucking keep it?

Agree to disagree Roadie. There’s some really good Scotch out there....but if it’s not your scene there’s nothing wrong with that. -

Medicinal and peaty, like sniffing Listerine while sucking on a Kingsford match light briquette. Gave up on that swill after half a bottle and passed it along to buddy who likes that Islay piss. MaCallan 12 and 18 are much nicer.YellowSnow said:I was thinking of @puppylove_sugarsteel on Sat night sipping on some Laphroaig 10 yr. Many master distillers add just a bit of water to open the whiskey up, even at lower proofs. It's a real thing, and it does make a difference.PandaOrangeChiknDuck said:I will add, drinking Lowland scotch is like drinking piss.

I know @Southerndawg you a smarterer than me at chemistry and other STEM stuff. But as I’m sipping some Laphroaig right now, I think you are a ruh-tard.Southerndawg said:

I do this for sure on the high test bourbon. It makes a huge difference. Need to try again with single malt.Southerndawg said:

Islay@spuden Costco has Lagavulin 16 for $69.00 right now before tax. Hell of a deal. It's usually $89.00 at Total Wine.
It's far more polished than Laphroaig or Ardbeg 10.
