USC/UCLA sell Pac 12 couch

Agreed. I am more sad than anything. The only equivalent is Nebraska bailing on 100 years of playing their Great Plains rivals for the B1G.DerekJohnson said:
In a certain sense, this breaks my heart. All that tradition, all those years of looking forward to playing USC in the rain and battling for a Rose Bowl berth. *POOF*whatshouldicareabout said: -

The Coug vs Boise State rivalry will be epic for years to come.Swaye said:I like that a bunch of Ducks just learned how unimportant they really are. Fox came calling and the only one that moved the needle was USC, and of course UCLA got the little brother pity invite. UW and Duck not part of the equation. I was under no illusions that UW sucks so no surprise there, but I love all the Ducks learning that they are worthless just like us.
We will end up landing somewhere with Duck because of TV, but what is happening with Beav and CUOG is the most hysterical thing in all of this. -
The NFL at least makes sense. And it’s fair and honest.CFetters_Nacho_Lover said:

College football is a steaming pile of illogical shit. -
So do we get a REAL champion yet?
Maybe the Rose Bowl should join the BCS. What could go wrong? -
The northwest rivalries, ease of traveling to an away game, tradition....this is what stings the most. On the other hand, the P12 has been trending down, home attendance not good, there are only a couple conference games that move the needle, so playing in a major conference might bring some life to seeing some big home games, and recruiting might improve. UW will need to get it's shit together for NIL though

As much as we love a lot of things about the tradition of college football, some things have been breaking down, and not just in the Pac-12, and committing to the TV money and the five programs that are rolling is about the only sure thing the sport has, and even that seems short term to me.dannarc said:The northwest rivalries, ease of traveling to an away game, tradition....this is what stings the most. I remember talk about even some attendance issues at Alabama. I don't know if attendance issues will ever be resolved at USC and UW.
I personally think taking away the regionalism of the sport will cause long-term problems and the eventual creation of essentially a minor league will keep future generations from not getting into college football.
My biggest selling point would be just changing the name to the Saturday Football League and making the tagline "It's better to get drunk on Saturday." -
Seems the plan is to continue to praise the Pac 12 and the lack of success UW has ever had but saying otherwise.Motrboatnsob said: -

A lot of UW trying to sell itself in that statement.Motrboatnsob said:
"close contact with leadership and peers...working together to examine options and opportunities"
The Pac 10 knows they are fucked. UW, UO, Cal and Stanford are readying their joint sales pitch to the BIG. The LA schools will need closer conference competition for olympic sports. Say what you want but sending gymnastics, softball or Cross country etc. between 1500 and 3000 miles to compete on a weekly or bi-weekly basis is not sustainable for the athletes. Utah, UA, ASU and Colorado are all regional fits for the new Big 12. OSU and WSU will be begging for admittance to the Big 12 but will most likely be headed to the MWC. I could argue that the new MWC in that scenario would be a comparable football league to the Pac 10 in fan support, and university by-in. -
Just kill it and have minor leagues. The players will be able to negotiate salary and endorsement deals and finally get paid what they are worth vs being under the thumb of the man.CFetters_Nacho_Lover said:

It didn't start breaking down until it was decided it needed to be changed because simple minded people couldn't fathom a champion through polling. Arguing about rankings is one of the things that made it fun.WoolleyDoog said:

The downward spiral started with the BCS.

The NFL loving cunts wanted to have their fucking stupid college Super Bowl. Now we're left with this shit sandwich of ruining everything that made college better than the NFL.MikeDamone said:

Jenn Cohen sucks as an AD, but she didn't ruin college football.
I need order my Bolts hat. This is our year! -
I like the part where the NFL (unless you're the Hawks) has been able to keep its regional rivalries intact for many, many decades.
But USC/UCLA in the Big 10?
FUCK OFF!! -

Nope. LA schools ghosted them which means they won't do any heavy lifting to get UW in to the B1G, either.TXDawg said:

We made three straight New Years Bowls not very long ago. Washington is a traditional top 20 program and isn't in a death spiral. Calm down, TexTXDawg said:
I could see Oregon, but the second school would come out of Big 12. Baylor, Oklahoma State, maybe even Iowa State. They're not going to ask Washington to join. There not going to admit a team with a program and a fanbase in a death spiral. Even Utah probably has a better chance of getting in than Washington. We ain't such a big fish anymore.BleachedAnusDawg said:
If UW and Oregon manage to get a pity invite to the B1G the PAC will fold or become the new and improved MWC by bringing in the top-4 teams from the MWC. Hopefully the LA schools signaled this was coming to UW prior to it leaking or that's a really bad sign.TXDawg said:I can't wait to figure out what scrub teams the PAC-12 will recruit into the conference. Any predictions?
On the flip side, if Oregon doesn't get an invite because of us, that'll be our biggest win over them in 20 years. -
Until this off season Oregon cared more than any west coast team
The advantage of being USC is being USC. Crank up the dollars and the brand is back
The Pac likes to break up dynasties. Fuck em -
Our main hope is that @Logistics will save us and the B1G will need 20 schools (to make four pods of 5 teams or 3 pods with 6/7/7). Or 21 schools with three pods of 7.
