Evidence Shows Dir Gen of WHO Severely Overstated Death Rate of Coronavirus leading to global panic

The controversial Ethiopian politician and Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, claimed in a press conference in early March that the fatality rate for the coronavirus was many multiples that of the fatality rate of the common flu.

This egregiously false premise has led to the greatest panic in world history.

Yeah you're wrong on this, it is significantly more deadly than the flu. And even if this analysis is correct, it's significantly more contagious than the flu, which will make it more deadly.

If you read the link, the death rate of confirmed flu cases is 10%. The death rate of confirmed Covid-19 cases is 3.4%. The flu death rate only drops to 0.1% once they factor in the estimated number of total flu cases (the ones that went unreported). Currently, they’re not factoring in/estimating the unreported Covid-19 cases, so it remains a death rate of confirmed cases. But, apples to apples the flu is three times deadlier. LIPO.

It may be more spreadable than the flu. But it certainly isn't more deadly. Hardly anyone has been tested. So you can figure we have 2 to 3 times the real cases of those infected than what are being reported. But yet we still only have 90 deaths nationwide. So considering that, the overall death rate is less than 1%, even with 10,000 cases.

But this is assuming nobody else who has it is going to die.

    And your evidence is what?

It is not me that you should characterize as wrong it is the CDC and others. I am just reporting what they are saying. So maybe you should get your facts straight.

You are not at all reporting what the CDC is saying. The CDC has been completely clear this is significantly worse than the flu.

IMO logically the flu is not only more deadly but more widespread each year than Coronavirus.

How many of you have had the flu. How many times have you had it. How many people do you know that actually have the flu every year. Now ask yourselves the same damn questions about Coronavirus FFS.

So far we know the deaths. You don't have to test for that. That's a solid indisputable number. What we do know is there are 5,000 documented cases. When in reality there are at least 15,000. But still the deaths are the same.

Its not the fact that it is contagious and can bring deaths with it, especially in the elderly, it is the scare tactics. People react just how they did here. No toilet paper (why?), bulk buying foods that are not available for those that need it most, panic buying and hoarding.

Driving panic is stupid. People are waiting in lines for 5 hours at shopping centers. 1000's of people close together, freaking out. Putting themselves at risk when it didn't need to be that way. The risk to those who are not sick and vulnerable is minimal.

Seriously, can someone explain to me why the run on toilet paper? Are people going to shit themselves to death? People are so deranged. I went to the store this afternoon and there is no fresh chicken, red meat, TP, but the vegetables and fruit are untouched. Same with canned veggies, rice, pasta.

All the idiots who keep comparing this to the flu is why people keep buying toilet paper. Or at least why they started buying it. Once it became a hot item everyone else just panic falls in line.

It's not like the flu. It's not going to give you diarrhea.

If you are seriously calculating the death rate from the flu by looking at CONFIRMED cases of the flu, you deserve to get your medical advice from gatewaypundit.

This. Going to a heavily right leaning website to get your sociological and epidemiological input for a pandemic that has been highly politicized could not be a better example of looking for confirmation bias.

In Europe they are now upto 700 deaths per day. That rate is continuing to increase as icus fill up and doctors are having to treat patients in triage tents. Hopefully the draconian measures taken here can lower the rate in the US.
