SC is in the South. We can't even sniff our own division this year.sonics1993 said:
I think a lot about the future will depend on what players come back, if Pete hires a real OC and who USC hires as a head coach but make no mistake about it, Washington is not hiring a coach better than Pete and i’m surprised some fans actually think that.haie said:
I mean based on your comments it looks like this isn't just a "down year." It looks like recruiting is turning the program into a 7-9 win venture.sonics1993 said:
It changed a while go, Manu has barely played the last few games and Wellington's snaps have decreased as well.haie said:I saw manu and Wellington in there for really simple shit like run in a straight line directly at their quarterback.
I saw a lot of Ulo and Sirmon in there most do the game.
Blows it has to come against beavlet but I guess with all the pressure off Jimmy finally got over himself and changed some shit for the better.
I agree that UW isn't hiring Urban but I disagree that they can't hire a coach better than Pete. If he can't win the conference in the next 2 seasons then he isn't a good coach by a lot of team's expectations in the Pac 12, not just UW's.

I "get" that there's excuses for having a down year this year but there's equally as many reasons why it shouldn't have been one.sonics1993 said:
Of course he evaluates the tape and is in the meetings but it's really not that simple. It's easy to say Manu and Wellington suck but have you seen anything from Sirmon and MJ to over take them because they both have been playing quite a bit as well and they both have struggled as well. And the notion that we should even think about firing Pete is hilarious, in our down year we will probably win 8 games.doogville said:
All Pete does is endlessly talk about how they put on the tape, evaluate guys in practice, etc.sonics1993 said:
Don’t know of any head coach in college that picks starters or the rotation. This isn’t the the NFL, there is so much on the plate of a head coach that they don’t have time to full evaluate each position and pick who should start and how many plays each player should get.doogville said:
Maybe the head coach — you know, the guy in charge of everything — should take even a passing interest in which players play.sonics1993 said:Pete does not pick the starters or decide the rotations, the position coach makes those decisions. This god awful LB play falls on one man only and that is Bob Gregory. Not only did he do a poor job of recruiting, he did a terrible job getting the players ready to play. I just hope he doesn't ruin the young talent we have know that he was gifted.
Radical idea, I know.
I don’t need Pete to be micromanaging minutes played. But if he is half as good a coach and evaluator as he thinks he is, then it’s insane that he is not breaking down the linebackers with lake and kwat and saying something to the effect of “kyler manu is dogshit. Get him off the field and play the younger guys.”
This is like the bare minimum we should expect. If, after 4 losses, he’s not spending a TON of time talking with his coaches about positional talent and who is getting playing time vs who should, then run his ass.
We? are going to be lucky to win 8 games for the season at this point while having one of the easiest OOC's and all the tough conference games at home.
Stanford and Cal were both abominations regardless of talent "this year".
We are seeing mismanagement all over the place. The offense, clock management, personnel decisions, players regressing, etc.
I'm tired of loser talk about "execution". Make the necessary changes or GTFO.

I’m more than fine with firing Gregory, but if he stays next year, he will probably be fine. I don’t think he’s a horrible coach. At times he’s been pretty good.PostGameOrangeSlices said:

Sirmon is developing. I was quick to be done with him because he was so bad against Cal. Gregory would actually deserve props for developing Sirmon. He does seem to be getting a lot better.KrunkJuice said:

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sirmon cut back a few pounds this offseason. I think he can be a solid player but a bit more quickness would help.

Nope no way on Gregory. Decent coach but if you want to be an elite program you have to both coach and recruit. Too many recruiting misses. Also the bigger consideration is it sends a message to the rest of the staff to get their shit together.PostGameOrangeSlices said:

If Petersen is willing to axe his buddy then they are all put on notice. Fear is a great motivator. -
It’s evident that Gregory isn’t a great recruiter, but there is way too much stock put into thinking position coaches have that much power. They are one of many reasons why a recruit chooses a school.whuggy said:

There is a myth that every coach Ohio State, Clemson, and Alabama hires is a great recruiter and it’s simply not true. Posters have said that without any clue who most of the position coaches At the schools even are.
The flip side is that recruiting is sales, so I get the angst over Gregory, but I still think too much stock is put into position coaches. -
With him, once he gets his reads down and understand what other teams trying to do he will be more effective decisive in his movement. He will get better, but that’s often a natural thing you either have or you don’t. I haven’t seen it so far. He’s gotten a lot better tho. He was the worst player in the defensive rotation the first half of the season. Just dreadful out there.FirePete said:

That is why I was advocating for more playing time for the younger players than the seniors. Reps on the seniors at this point is completely fucking waste.RoadDawg55 said:

Uh a little late newbie. Pup called him to start end of fall camp. You just noticed Smoke? At least you did after week 8-9...where HH vets like yella, splitter, 55, wilber, and on down the line never even mentioned his name.PurpleSmoke said:Kid can play. I never want to see Manu or Wellington as long as this kid is healthy.
Btw, why are the skirts with 30 posts running the asylum now? Because their observations are actually relevant. As opposed to the 2-year HH 'veterans' like yellow who've brought nothing but Lewis and Clarks clearwater canoe to the table. Yellow, those guys could row;) -

Difference is that Ohio State, Clemson and Alabama recruit themselves. Washington doesn't. Talent wins in college football and Gregory just isn't pulling enough.RoadDawg55 said:

I was at the game, and this kid was everywhere. Once we went to 3 DL, 2 edge, and Ulofoshio as the only LB, we started tearing the Beavers up.
1 3rd down completion, 0 1st downs in the 2nd half, 8 yards in the 2nd half.
All against a team that was 4th in the country on 3rd downs and was putting up 30+ on every team this season (except Utah).
The defense has their best game with Ulofoshio roaming the middle. -
