It is dumb to pretend he’s good based on absolutely nothing. The other side is Bynum was good once he played and Spiker made a couple plays in limited reps too. They can’t show what they got if they don’t see the field.bananasnblondes said:

I really hope he stays and I really hope he develops into a great WR but it is possible that Pete doesnt actually have a vendetta against him and in reality hasn't done shit to earn playing time. If hes transferring, it's likely to somewhere like San Jose State.
I find the practice stuff somewhat stupid because it’s human nature to not perform when you aren’t valued. Guys would likely practice better if they played. They go thru the motions when they don’t. -
I’m not as down on him because Bosco is loaded and they probably have a lot of good players in their secondary.Meek said:FWIW James Smith didn't start for Bosco in the state finals but he's been playing well in the second half...a half where Bosco went from losing 28-5 to leading 39-28.
He obviously has work to do, but there could be legit image explanations for why he doesn’t play all the time. -
Yeah guys, Pete has earned the benefit of the doubt when it come to WR playing time.bananasnblondes said:

For the millionth time, Pete does not decide WR playing time! Will people ever learn? Guess not.UWhuskytskeet said:

I just don’t buy that he has nothing to do with it. Some of his coaches seems to be scared of young guys and Pete talks about practice all the time. I don’t think he makes decisions on game day, but he knows what the rotations are going to be.halfbrainmanmolder said:

Pete most likely gives the position coaches some parameters or a fucking checklist to base playing time. And I do not believe for 1 fucking minute that the position coaches have to get their lists approved by Pete.RoadDawg55 said:

the other way is to wonder why he was replaced most of the season by a sophomore.
-
Yeah, I dont care who you play for or what your "measurables" are. You should not be riding the bench as a high school senior if you have a scholarship to play for a P5 school. Jimmy Lake even went to watch his game against Mater Dei in person and he sat on the bench most of the game. Hopefully Jimmy is working some behind the scenes stuff with this db class.Meek said:

If this is truly the case then Pete should let Junior go today.halfbrainmanmolder said:

How could Adams possibly justify playing the 3 seniors the first 6 games when it was obviously not working on Saturday's against any Pac-12 team. Bynum and Puka were the best two receivers Eason had by the end of the Oregon game and were his go to guys in a matter of two weeks (UA then Ducks).
I've heard the narrative that Pete allows his coaches the freedom in deciding who plays etc. But to think Adams is the one who plays Chin for 1 play gets a td, then never sees the field again, brings in Spiker/Osbourne/Puka to be blocking dummies 3 plays over the course of a game the first 1/3rd of a season is comical. Those types of decisions have Pete's philosophy of "based on matchups/formations/analytics/nuclear physics we can out trick you" fingerprints all over it. -
Adams was too concerned about making a good first impression and covering his ass and he thought playing the seniors was his best bet that they wouldn't fuck up, miss blocks, drop passes etc. He was coaching from insecurity instead of taking a chance on a bigger return/bigger loss gamble.

If Helton really is fired and they bring in a legit coach how fucked is this recruiting class?

Signing day is in 2 weeks. We'll be fine this year. Next year would be tougher.Edwin_Bambino said:If Helton really is fired and they bring in a legit coach how fucked is this recruiting class?

I don't really buy this but if it's true then Adams should -- at a minimum -- be immediately on a scorching hot seat. Rotations and personnel decisions that directly and inarguably lead to losses. Everyone forgot how to catch. Blocking was awful. Categorical failure.halfbrainmanmolder said:

I don’t think there are many programs that you can fuck up and drop as many passes as Fuller and Baccallia did and still keep your spot. At minimum, someone else gets a chance and you see what they can do. If they are also bad, sure, go back to the initial guys. That didn’t happen.Gladstone said:

Adams should be on a hot seat ... very unimpressive season by the WRs

The last thing you need is more turnover for that room, you’re not going to fix that room in one year. Recruiting wise he’s killing it and on the field you saw flashes from the young wide receivers.Tequilla said:Adams should be on a hot seat ... very unimpressive season by the WRs

One more year. He was abysmal this year. Being a good recruiter means nothing if you can’t coach. That part should always come first because there really isn’t great variance between high school prospects outside of the very elite.sonics1993 said:

In college football it’s 75% about recruiting and 25% coaching. Bring in elite talent and it will show on the field. There’s a reason why they say college football is about the Jimmy’s and Joe’s not x’s and o’s.RoadDawg55 said:

He chose not to play the talent anyways. I can see both sides of the argument. The staff has really messed this up.sonics1993 said:

I’m not that high on that young talent and it’s not surprising to me that neither Osborne nor Spiker can’t see the field in there second year. These guys weren’t can’t miss talents and it’s going to take a couple years for them to develop and considering they got no coaching last year, there development has been delayed.AtomicDawg said:

The point is the people in front of them were failing at a rate that anyone with eyes could tell. Opera sucked and was a liability. Chico couldn’t offer much. Neither of them nor fuller can block at all.
Bynum has made some mistakes but has also improved and can do things like get a first down after the catch. Puka showed playmaking ability. Spiker was at least not worthless.
Give the young non midgets a chance. They can’t be worse. It’s really not that hard. Get them reps.

Andre’s snap decreased drastically in the second half of the season, Chico barely payed, spiker got injured which is why he didn’t play the last three games, Fuller had his moments. I agree that Puka and Bynum should have played sooner and Andre and Chico shouldn’t have played as much to begin the season. My hope is we change to a new scheme that allows the WR’s to learn the playbook faster so they can get on the field faster. Bynum, Puka and Mcmillian have the potential to be a great trio and I’m excited to see how Junior develops them.AtomicDawg said:

Don’t agree because we don’t get a lot of 5 star talent and that has historically been the case. There are schools that do get talent that aren’t very good such as USC and Tennessee under Butch Jones. Mississippi with Hugh Freeze, UCLA with Mora, etc. Coaching is much more important.sonics1993 said:

If it was all about Jimmy and Joe’s teams like Kansas State, Wisconsin, WSU, etc would never be good. I know we aspire to be better as we should, but if it was 75% jimmy and joes, that wouldn’t happen. LSU, Florida, FSU, etc would never Suck.
LSU isn’t remarkably more talented this year. They just have confidence because the coaching and scheme are much better and has put those players in a better situation to succeed. Once they taste success, it becomes contagious.
On top of that, the lesser schools actually do get talented players at times, they are just overlooked. There are only so many guys the TBS rankers can see and a lot of it is somewhat political based on where they play, how many times the rankers have watched them, what camps they attempted, their initial rankings their sophomore year, what programs are aware of them and have evaluated and offered them, etc.
Despite all the coaching changes, we are frequently ranked 15-25th in recruiting. That really hasn’t changed since Sark. It’s a little bit better now, but not by a huge margin.
I don’t think we have enough talent to beat the top teams in CFB, but we didn’t go 7-5 because of our talent. We lost to a bunch of teams with less talent on paper.
So how is recruiting so much more important? I think the reality is you guys enjoy recruiting and the thrill of it so much it clouds your judgement about what really is of the utmost importance.
I know we doog out when we get a 4 star like Osborne and even Bynum, but there are tons of 3 stars that are just as good or better. The gap is very very small. The vast majority of our players have some talent but need to be developed and put in the best position to be successful. We have done a bad job of that lately.
Would you rather have the 10th best class and suspect, average coaching or the 20th best with great coaching? Yeah, we want both, blah, blah, but the easy answer is with great coaching. And like I said, the margin between 10th and 20th is really quite small. -
I agree that I wouldn’t pull the plug after this year ...sonics1993 said:

That being said, it wasn’t a strong year this year for him on the on field side of things -
Recruiting rankings only matter so much once you get on campus ...
Once on campus you got to prove it to earn your snake ...
The corollary to the NFL is 1st round picks should be sure things ... we know that a high % of those turn out to not live up to expectations -
