For reals question. Is dickmans over complicated offense aid in uncertainty with OL assignments?bananasnblondes said:
Huff will earn his money with Buelow and Kalepo. Both have the size, speed, etc. but will require a ton of teaching. Fautano will be great and that was a huge recruiting win. I'm not sure where Luciano will fit in. He will likely battle Norgaard to be Harris's replacement or be a 1st guy off the bench for any inside position.RoadDawg55 said:Huff has been average. I don’t hate him, but I’m not that excited about him either.
I don’t like last year’s OL class other than Fautanu and think it’s overrated by most of you here. The 2018 OL class is pretty good though, especially since Ale seems to be progressing well.
Basically LIPO for another year or two regarding Huff. The OL should be good this year. If it’s not, Huff is a problem.
So far the reports on Curne, Mele, and Ale have sounded really good. Huff is a Strausser student who actually seems to like and understand recruiting. Get Hatchett and Murao and you are leveling up again.
That being said, I'm concerned that our O line looked so shitty during spring and there were times last year when guys didnt seem to know their assignments. A huge tell on Huff this year will be how our tackles look. Trey should be back to old form and Hilbers should be able to be an all-conference level RT as a 5th year senior who started last year on the left.
I know it can with qb’s, wr’s, etc but I’m unsure with lineman.
The positive is these guys are NFL ready due to the complexity of the scheme. That message isn’t yet resonating with OL croots but another couple yrs with consecutive guys going early rounds and Huffs seat becomes massively cool.
For some reason I have the least amount of concern with OL crootin this yr. In huff I trust...? -
Dude, pretty sure ppl are looking at Hilbers as a legit nfl prospect. He might get taken in 6-7th round next yearbackthepack said:Watch the spring game and watch Hilbers. Watch Hilbers specifically against Cal. Salvon ran for -8 yards and we couldn’t run the ball against fucking Cal. But it’s Salvon’s fault he sucks!!!1!

Mcgary specifically said the offense was too complicated. So yes it effects lineman just like it does everyone else. C'mon pete just rip it bruh
-
Pete’s offense was so predictable last year and it made the OL look worse than they were. Opposing defenses stacked the run and played tighter coverage, knowing our receivers couldn’t create space and that Browning couldn’t make the deep throw. The sacks and hurries came from inside delayed LB blitzes. Browning held on to the ball to long. If Gaskin was part of the route tree, there was no additional protection.
The OL, except for Watty, who played hurt, performed well. Skinny should make a huge difference. Even if he isnt as efficient, defenses have to respect the deep ball. That alone will make a huge difference -
I’m not going to say the OL was embarrassing last year (79 yards rushing in 3 quarters vs North Dakota) because I’m not going to expect anything else from a position that was recruited like shit. Huff has been an amazing recruiter and this is the year we find out how he’s developing with baselines on guys like Watty, Jax, Hilbers, & Bain.
When Nick Harris HAS TO start every game from his freshman year on, you’ve recruited so so so so so badly. Fautanu has the best HS OL film ever and we MIGHT see him in two years. Even with what looks like early playing time at center for Murao, should turn into a RS year and more while Luciano holds over. That’s a good thing vs if we didn’t take Luciano or Norgaard and Myles HAD to play as a True Frosh only a year and a half removed from knee surgery. -
Multiple people have posted that yet have never added a link... When and where did he say that?Penace said:Mcgary specifically said the offense was too complicated. So yes it effects lineman just like it does everyone else. C'mon pete just rip it bruh

McGary was critical after the Cal game. I don’t have the link.
@backthepack, Hillbers didn’t play against Cal. Roberts was the LT in that game. I don’t think Hilbers is great, but he held up against Auburn and was mostly solid. I’m not reading much into the Spring Game.
We have 4 returning starters this season. Five if you count Hilbers. The OL should be improved, and if it’s not, it’s a problem.
OL is a tough position to evaluate high school prospects. It’s easy to see if the guy has the size and strength, but it’s a mentally taxing position. If you can’t pick up blitzes and stunts, you’re going to look bad.
It is premature to say the OL class from last year is overrated. My only point was that I don’t like Buelow or Kalepo as much as most of the board. The board is for opinions. I would love to be wrong, but I don’t see them being championship caliber players. -
This and Huff has easily been an above average recruiter since he got here. He landed two out of state targets his first year that had a fairly good offer list. He landed Buelow and Kalepo as high risk/high reward players last year, but they were coveted. Fautanu will be a stud and he has a solid commit this year in Gaard. Ale has been his only lay-up and he had decent offers, so there is no way his recruiting can be seen as anything but a positive at this point.Baseman said:Pete’s offense was so predictable last year and it made the OL look worse than they were. McGary was a Morris Trophy winner and a first rounder. When Adams went down last year I thought Hilbers did much better than expected. We weren't great as a unit, but it is hard to tell what was the offense / Browning and what was the O-line. When we rode Gaskin, we won. -
@backthepack I am actually dialed in on this lolFirePete said:
R u sure you not confusing with Roberts? I know they all look the samebackthepack said:Lol have any of you fuckers actually watched Hilbers play? He’s awful.

Nice little thread derailment into a debate about the O-line and offense. Good job guys.
