Eklund says Hampton was planning on sneaking off to Oregon for a pre-signing day visit before WT left.
Now he's 100% UW...but will not sign in December.
Lake could need to put in some babysitting hours. -
Just read it. Yeah - it's a weird one. It seems like it's all about Lake rumors.bananasnblondes said:Eklund says Hampton was planning on sneaking off to Oregon for a pre-signing day visit before WT left.

However - I will say this, shit can change a lot after an official visit. So, I'll wait to go into panic mode about this until after his official.
Still, I'm preparing to go into panic mode. -
I love this kid's potential but he has also seemed to be a gut who is waiting on a "bigger" offer. I know that Pete's general policy will be "if you're committed, you sign in December." If Hampton remains firm that he will sign in February, I'd be ok with Pete saying "we'll take that as you still looking around and your spot won't necessarily be guaranteed"Dennis_DeYoung said:

Just get them to sign on the line that is dotted. I don't get into the 'oh gee he's looking around'. IDGAF.bananasnblondes said:

At the end of the night if you're banging a 9 who was hoping for the rich dude to take her home, you're still banging the 9.
Recruiting is about outcomes on NLOI day, not process. -

Can't lose this recruit. Fucking love this kid.

That’s rational thinking ... how often does that happen with recruits?BallzDeep said:These Jimmy Lake rumors are so fucking annoying. It's like even if Jimmy were to take another job why would that cause you to decommit and then commit to another school where your position coach and/or head coach could still be gone in a year or two. Your best bet is to tie your hitch to a head coach who's elite who you know isn't leaving.
-
I'm moving this guy off the commit list because he's said he doesn't plan to sign on D20 and is still 'seeing what else is out there'.
If he reaffirms on D15, then he'll go back on. But right now he's not a commit in the sense we are used to. -
Jesus fucking Christ. He is the only moderately elite DB we have committed, or were likely to get (based on Gordon reporting). I recall last summer you and Coker thinking this could be an epic class - Gordon, Harrison, Irvin, etc. Talk about a thud finish. WTF Lake?Dennis_DeYoung said:I'm moving this guy off the commit list because he's said he doesn't plan to sign on D20 and is still 'seeing what else is out there'.

Hampton is a DDY3. He's a big fat fucking deal. We'll see if we can close fucking anything at DB this year.Swaye said:

I'm skeptical, but Lake is still liking Malik Putney poasts on twitter. It doesn't inspire confidence. -
His latest tweet is an in-home with Lake, he's liking UW stuff, he has an OV on the 15th, and hasn't removed committed from his bio or background. I'd say it's probably NBD.
-
Wrong. He's said publicly, multiple times he's not signing on D20.jhfstyle24 said:His latest tweet is an in-home with Lake, he's liking UW stuff, he has an OV on the 15th, and hasn't removed committed from his bio or background. I'd say it's probably NBD.
If this kid doesn't sign on D20 he's going to get offered by Bama, Notre Dame, Georgia (who I'm really worried about here because he's originally from GA), Auburn, etc.
The issue is not that he likes us—I think he does—the issue is that once he shows he's not committed, every school in the country that needs a DB will be up his ass. -

Also - I wanted to add, right now I guarantee you no one is trying very hard with him. It wouldn't make sense to.
Because if you try hard with him now, you're wasting your time if he's going to sign with UW. And 10 days of missed recruiting won't mean shit, ultimately.
However, if you see he doesn't sign, you KNOW he's not committed and you can really start your effort. -
Hampton doesn't have to worry about Lake going to UCLA.

From what I’m seeing and reading tea leaves, it looks like we are making a strong push to be materially done with recruiting by the early signing period and getting a leg up on 2019 and maybe even 2020 recruiting.Dennis_DeYoung said:I'm moving this guy off the commit list because he's said he doesn't plan to sign on D20 and is still 'seeing what else is out there'.

Dennis and I were talking yesterday and it’s almost impossible to conclude that if Hampton backs out and Gordon doesn’t come that that’s as much proof as you need to conclude that Lake is essentially damaged goods for UW because EVERYBODY knows he has greater ambitions. Who would have ever thought this 24 months ago, but it’s quite possible that we may be better off without Lake sooner than later -
Nobody is worried about Lake leaving for a DB jobUWhuskytskeet said:Hampton doesn't have to worry about Lake going to UCLA.

I worry when UCLA gets guys who are serious coaches. UCLA will always recruit top 15 classes. The coaches get overly focused on recruiting because they fool themselves into thinking it's what will separate them and then they get crazy about it because it's so easy.
The only thing I worry about UCLA with is them getting coaches who are great coaches who can take their top 15 guaranteed recruiting classes and turn them into guys who play with intensity and consistency. -
Derp, not sure what I was thinking there.Tequilla said:

Obviously Lake isn’t long for his current position. But isn’t that true for every assistant coach on every staff in the country? Sure, some of the OCs and DCs may be stable for 5 year periods, but assistant level coaches have to be 2-3 years average in the same job, right?
-
No - I don’t think so ... probably about half and halfwhlinder said:Obviously Lake isn’t long for his current position. But isn’t that true for every assistant coach on every staff in the country? For example, on our existing staff the only coaches I see as significant flight risks in the next 2-3 years would be Lake and Lubick ... Bush will be a future star as a HC most likely but he’s going to need to put in some as an OC before moving up the food chain. At best he’s on the back end of that time frame ... more like 3-5 years.
K isn’t going anywhere ... don’t think he has the ambition to be anything more as it isn’t his personality. Gregory is only leaving if pushed out. Same with Malloe. Huff and Paopao strike me as positional assistants.
TBD on the RB coach assuming Boner is leaving ... I need to review his background a bit more ... but would likely lean towards he probably is in the will move in 3 years or so to an OC or mid-major HC role. -
The nice part about this early signing period is that we can play hardball with him. They'll tell him that if he doesn't sign, then he's not guaranteed a spot. I think if he makes it to campus this coming weekend, he'll sign on the 20th.
-
I’m not sure you can play hardball with all recruits ...HuskyClaws said:The nice part about this early signing period is that we can play hardball with him. If you play hardball with Hampton he can just come back laughing at you saying that’s cool but I’m sure the upper elite of the SEC may have some interest ... he’s never going to be left without a spot. -
Agreed, but you can play hardball with him when UW is clearly his best option.Tequilla said:

I think we will make expectations clear to him. But I doubt we play hardball. There is no one else interested!HuskyClaws said:The nice part about this early signing period is that we can play hardball with him. Which would you prefer? -
Again, we may be his best option at present because he's been locked in with us for so long ...HuskyClaws said:

I don't believe that we're necessarily the best option going forward if his recruitment opens back up
