No one in the west comes remotely close in terms of player development - NFL representation, all-conference players, etc. to what Pete has done since coming here. Normally conference championships mean something, and they still do, but only east of New Mexico. What has hurt Washington as well has been Oregon. Oregon was the first Pac 12 school outside of USC to recruit hard in the east coast and SEC country. That has pissed a lot of east coast schools off, so now they are recruiting harder on the west coast than they've ever done before. Washington can easily compete and in many cases beat Oregon and USC for California talent, but now they have to compete with Clemson, LSU, Alabama, etc. No west coast school can compete head to head with these schools in tradition (maybe USC, but that is fading), recent success (Sorry Washington, but you need to win something outside of the conference)
The west coast needs to grow a pair and win a game against these blue bloods. Washington/Auburn, Washington/Alabama, Washington/Ohio State, Oregon/Auburn, Oregon/LSU, Oregon/Ohio State, USC/Ohio State, USC/Alabama.
