Thomas along with Scalia are the two best Supreme Court justices in the last 80 years. Both could define a woman and both could read for understanding. The most recent "black" justice can't do either. I don't define that as some sort of societal improvement.hardhat said: -

Nothing beats the quiet part out loud. Racist Dems ALWAYS deliver. Mello, who I don't believe is racist, is sure quick to point out perceived racism, which is weird for a guy who voted for a racist. All of this is deeply confusing for an avowed centrist.hardhat said: -

Civil Rights Act of 1964. Not sure how Harvard is funded. But to pretend that a color blind Constitution and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 aren't well established principles of our justice system is inane. Both the education and employment provisions of the Civil Rights Act specifically bar the use of disparate impact to provide quotas.hardhat said:HHusky said:

How old are you? You always shift to straw man tactics, like a little child. Your 'topic' is that 'democrats' are against it. Yet today we've seen a bunch of crying, shrieking nonsense from the leaders of that party. You may be against it, and that's great. But everyone from Obama to shitheads like Inslee that actually represent the democrats are saying something else.HHusky said:

"straw man" has an actual meaning apart from just being things that confuse you
I said I am cynical about the hand wringing; it may keep some Dem votes and it probably doesn't lose many Dem votes when the alternative is a right wing Republican

Democrats want to end all merit based systems and replace them with arbitrary nonsense like equity and social justice. I'm not sure if they'll succeed completely, but a lot of damage has been done to public education and higher education. But as long as there's a 'right wing republican' bogeyman, that keeps the base placated.HHusky said:

I've already produced the polling that says you're wrong in this very thread. A large majority of Democrats oppose race-based admissions. In the past few years, voters in WA and CAL both passed laws intended to end them as well--and by large margins.hardhat said:

Attended a commencement recently.
The first acknowledgement was that the ceremony was being held on stolen Native American land.
The second acknowledgement was that white supremacy was responsible for the theft and colonialism throughout the World.

Here, Harvard had levied a de facto “Asian tax.” Practically speaking, the school effectively mandated that Asian-American applicants score 140 points higher than white students, 270 points better than Latino students, and 450 points more than Black students.
For once, the high court is in sync with the American public. This is not Dobbs redux. A recent Economist/YouGov poll found that 65% of the U.S.—including 57% of Latinos and a plurality of Biden voters (46-44) and Blacks (47-38)—oppose race as an admissions criterion.
At the ballot box, Americans have repeatedly said “no” to racial preferences. California led the way in 1996. In 2006, Michiganders embraced the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative (MCRI), and amended the state’s constitution to bar preferential treatment based upon “race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin” in admissions, employment or public contracts.
Exit polls showed that nearly every demographic group backed the MCRI. Non-churchgoers, evangelicals, college graduates, and high school drop-outs all supported the measure. . . .
The Supreme Court just dropped a fig leaf and opportunity into the lap of Biden & Co., although they may not see it as such. Regardless, the status quo is no longer viable. Whether the party of FDR can meet the new reality, return to its roots and embrace class-based policies are now all open questions. The 2024 election may hang in the balance

What I am talking about goes beyond that. It's not like you produced something new. If anything, it still makes the leaders of the democratic party seem out of touch with their base. More importantly, since you're old you have no idea of what is going on in public schools. But don't pretend you haven't heard democrats talk about equity and social justice in regards to more than just affirmative action.HHusky said:

To review
H is against affirmative action but voted for Hillary who would have nominated judges who would keep it.
I voted for Trump who nominated judges who decided against it.
H voted for Biden who nominated Jackson who basically said
It's unconstitutional but still
It's so unfair to say that H votes like an idiot -

Actually, this is a very good decision and long, long overdue. All it ever did was create a privileged class, and I've seen first hand how AA does the admitted and underqualified kid no favors. It did help my Lakeside-educated friend who needed no help get into Columbia. But, sure.
