I do drink smoothies occasionally and they definitely have a high glycemic index to the point where I have to adjust when I take insulin to counteract.
I have never experienced any type of blood sugar spikes to worry about when eating regular old raspberries, blueberries, strawberries or blackberries. That might be due to quantity consumed but in raw form they don't really hit you badly. My interest is now sufficiently piqued to grab some at the store and experiment but I have never noticed it before.
Bananas, on the other hand… see the picture below. The spike before 7am is mostly the banana (also had eggs and coffee w/ creamer). This day had no fast acting insulin before eating due to starting the day super low, being in a good workout streak and expecting to do some brief exercise around 8:15.
Berries in a smoothie (Yella's recipe) I can't really say other than they are definitely not worse GIs than the banana and OJ. Greek yogurt depending on what kind can have enough carbs to also push you up…
When I am hypoglycemic (blood sugar too low), the fastest response is fruit juice, though I usually try to have a banana or a granola bar (easier to keep on the nightstand and carry around).
For posterity, today with basically same situation, exactly same food but no banana. After 8am starts to deviate form yesterday due to activity yesterday vs sitting in a chair today. Much slower increase and lower peak.
Huberman, bruh! is an endless source of comedy in my Row Peter Puffer What's App chat.
One of our pals is really into the supplement hawt talk and I'm in there making fun of Huberman for being a Narcissistic, douche canoe in the dating world.
I don't know what to make of the plastic stuff, but we've already been doing most of this stuff for years- i.e., metal water bottles & cooking in cast iron or stainless steel.
Imagine not feeding you kids off the boob which is free.
Oh wait, I was a formula baby and look how I turned out. I'm living proof that formula adds inches!
For the record, I think vegan is the wrong approach just like I feel pure carnivore is the wrong approach. But I wonder if in rare cases, there might be a necessary use case for that type of formula- e.g., I believe some babies have an allergic reaction to cow milk based formula (something to do with that type of protein)?
Also, Baker, needs to quit being a pussy and pull some 2000 meter ergs instead of this 250 meter, yoked out, beefcake stuff.
In my 40's I had more and more sinus infections and my doctor said to cut out dairy milk. It worked for me. Went with soy milk then some kids in Cali told me that was bad and I should do almond milk. I've settled there. Good stuff. Works great as a creamer in coffee
pawz is kinda losing sight of the fact that vitamins are chemicals and chemical compounds.
My old man always liked to say that if you eat all organic food you'll die of organic cancer. He was also a doctor of internal medicine and the first man in his family to live past 55 - thanks to statin drugs. Hate pharmaceuticals all you want, but they've saved millions of lives between statin drugs and antibiotics alone.
If you want to live into your 90's, have parents that lived into their 90's. That's the surefire way. My granny hit 94 in spite of smoking two packs a day for 80 years plus or minus. Had the genes for it.
What cracks me up about diets is the way everyone tries to convince everyone else that their diet is some miracle when eating less and exercising more is such a simple formula.
I've been on a diet for 50 years with a minute by minute view of my blood glucose for the last 10 or so - and exercise is the key to keeping your weight in check and your arteries healthy. Insulin not only makes you feel slow and sluggish, it also hardens your arteries, so avoiding spikes in your BG is a good idea. A meal that takes me 10 units of insulin to deal with if I sit on the couch takes less than 5 to deal with if I engage in almost any physical activity. The difference is big even with just a moderate amount of exercise.
Good luck to anybody trying to do healthier things - it's not all that easy to watch what you eat and stay motivated to exercise. Don't disregard pharmaceuticals, though. Ask Jim Fixx about that.
I think reasonable folks can debate what sort of reforms are needed for Big Pharma and the Medical Industrial complex and their roles in the health or lack there of for Americans.
But as father of 7 year old who almost died twice of respiratory issues at age 10 months and then 2 years, I can only take some much bashing of pharma and the MI complex. They ain't all bad.
Seattle Children's is the #1 amenity in the Emerald City IMHO.
I'm not saying all pharmaceuticals are bad. Some saved my life this past year alone. I'm saying the pendulum has swung way too far in a lot of cases. Also, I'm not trashing essential vitamins and minerals. But I'm hard-pressed to find many of those on the back of the aforementioned label.
The rest of your post elaborates on what should be the first option - which i support completely.

Come play in the Tug for old-time sake. The Super Bowl is less than a week away.
I'll pass on the Tug - it tends to lead to feelings of tension and aggression for me.
Very unhealthy.
I take a look once in a while, but that's just to see who's still alive. I think Unleashed killed SLBOB with all his rage posting - and I'm a little worried Race might follow in those those footsteps. Hope not - Race is good people.

The poont is not the formula itself. It's the sugar, the seed oils, and every other unpronounceable chemical additive.
I would bet the farm the formula you had didn't have all that extraneous bullshit in it.

You don't like your coffee like you like your props?
I kid, I kid,
Doubtful that it did.
But home boy is also taking a jab at the vegans for using a plant based formula in the first place.
And formula is always going to have some random ingredients in there for shelf life and what not.
He isn't making fun of the vegan, per se. He is pointing at the ignorance of thinking something 'plant-based' when it's clearly 'chemical-based'.
Preservatives mean you don't.
(not you personally)

I'm fine with this take.
I refer to that as eating food. Is it food? That’s good.
Is it not food? Bad.
Just cause it has calories does not mean it’s food.
(I don’t follow it 100% of the time but try to get close to that)

I have a split family. Dad's side all died young- 40s to 50s. My dad made it to 64
Mom's side all into their 90s including my mom
I'll keep you posted on me
Good luck the rest of the way!
70 is the new 50.
