@sonics1993 please don't do this. Are these guys on staff actual coaches or support staff. Im going to take a cleanse from uw football. This is too stressful with oregon pushing our shit in

One position coach and one person heavily involved with recruiting. I have absolutely no read on this.UDubHusky23 said:@sonics1993 please don't do this. No worries. Thank-You for the insight @sonics1993 I appreciate your honesty and willingness to give us a peak inside the gates. I fully prepared for UW to sign a class like USC did last year. In the 40-50s for rank hahahsonics1993 said:

What % of kids decommit in a normal year do you know? 1 in 5, 1 in 10, etc?
Even with the Virus and so many kids committing without visiting the schools, It's not a stretch that many of them will have been so romanticized by the coaches about how amazing the school is b4 they ever see it, that they are allready sold on it, and the visit showing all the best attributes just confirms their dreams.
If that is their plan, talk about having to thread the needle.
Thanks for the update Sonics. -
Exactly, what else are they going to say. “Things are bad, and we have no plan”UDubHusky23 said:

Interesting. They are probably just trying to remain positive despite things going down the shitter in recruiting.
That being said, if they win in the fall this will be a very good class. I dont put a ton of stock in the commits that are happening right now. There are twice as many committed players right now as there were at this time last year and most of these kids havent even visited the school they have committed to and almost all are saying in interviews that they plan on taking their visits. These are 18 year old kids who are bored as shit. They arent getting the attention they usually get at school and football camps. They gotta do all their top school edits, announce their commitment date, make their commitment, etc.
Anyways, a ton of these guys are going to decommit from the school they are currently at. If UW finds their qb and their defense reaches its potential, they will win a lot of games. If they win a lot of games, they will finish very strong in recruiting. If they don't, at least being a good recruiter wont help Jimmy keep his job longer than he should have it. -
Please don't bring common sense in this conversation. I need this false hopeDomicillo said:

I’m assuming the false hope comes from the fact that the people you talked to aren’t complete idiots at recruiting (i.e. Bob Gregory) so there’s at least some reason to think they aren’t blowing complete smoke up your asssonics1993 said:

Yes. And let's be clear, you couldn't pay me enough to talk to Bob Gregory.Tequilla said:

Even if they are right and somehow they come out of this flipping guys back and getting most of their top targets, it’s an absolutely terrible process. Frankly it reeks of the same shit when we’d stop recruiting in the spring and we’d we lose guys like Ngata, Charbonnet, Jones, etc, we didn’t get those kids back later in the ‘marathon’.sonics1993 said:

At least they're all drinking the kool aid together (or are yes men).

One thing I’ve learned is that it’s not uncommon to see successful people or companies go rudderless because they believe that they are disproportionately responsible for the success and essentially get lazy and passed byDoogWhisperer said:At least they're all drinking the kool aid together (or are yes men).
It’s one reason why change can be a really good thing because without it you are very much at risk of getting stale, comfortable and over-confident -
I’m gonna go with “they all fucking suck and should be fired immediately”.
Hopefully someone murders me soon and I don’t have to worry about this shit staff in real life anymore.

COVID shutting down sports has somehow had the opposite effect of what I expected re: sports. Thought I'd miss them, but really I've just had more time to think about how shitty my teams are and that they have no hope of ever being legitimately good. No games, practices, etc now means nothing to get my hopes up and carry me thru to the opening game loss to Michigan. This could be my last year of closely following the program.
Yes, I am a big, faggy pussy. -
The flip side of this is that the kids have a lot of time on their hands to talk to coaches and research. Oregon coaches say they’re working harder because it’s back to back zoom meetings and no travel, etc.godawgst said:What % of kids decommit in a normal year do you know? 1 in 5, 1 in 10, etc?

@sonics1993 you obviously know the coaches and have been around the program. Being completely honest and based only on what you have seen of him that maybe the rest of us haven't, do you think Lake us cut out to be a succesful HC or is he just another assistant that will ultimately prove to be not up to the task.
-
That's the thing, covid has punished Washington because we have shit recruiters and unproven shitty coaches.
We can't get them on campus to "sell" them so the likes of Oregon can outwork and out-talent on the zoom meetings.
Then they say "wait until you see our fluffers in the O dressing room ... the O doesn't stand for Oregon behind closed doors ..."
All this talk about "wait until later" is so fucking stupid and full of shit.
You don't say "I'll let Kristine date the other guys and she'll come around to me in the fall .."
By that time she's already fucked them all and you're wishing for sloppy seconds.
Fuck Pete and fuck this coaching staff. -

When you're committing to a bunch of middle aged dudes quacking and a flashing pink Nike hats over zoom, I can believe what they're saying to some degree.sonics1993 said:Talked to a couple different guys on the staff and neither of them are concerned about recruiting, in fact they like where they stand in recruiting. Both told me recruiting is a marathon not a sprint and believe come fall, they will flip a lot of these guys including Troy who they are still confident in. I want to believe but all my neutral sources aren't as optimistic so I got no clue how this ends.

Sonics, just out of curiosity. Are these individuals that if they truly believed things were headed down the shitter, they would give some some noncommittal answer about recruiting being hard blah blah covid blah blah getting our feet under us blah blah no spring game, knowing you both understood he was saying we're getting plungered? Or are they the type of guys who would give you the exact answer they gave you whether we had the top 2 guys at every position or a bunch of Wyrchs and Jumpers?sonics1993 said:

Deciding whether to down the rest of this bleach or not...
Also, please tell me that Jimmy is some kind of genius who pretends he's struggling to beat Utah for a local kid we don't even really want, offering OL/QB/Hback hybrids to throw everyone off, is only bluffing about hiring John Donovan to troll duck fans and simultaneously have me taking shots of bleach, but in reality he's just pretending to be fucking incompetent for the lulz. Please. And thank you. -
Honestly this is all kind of a moot point. If they are good this season recruiting will be good, if they get blown out by Michigan and the offense is still shitty and Donovan proves he is who we thought he was then yea recruiting will suck.
I mean fire Bob Gregory anyways that fucker played Manu over Eddy for like 90 percent of last season. -
I think we’ve all said this to some extent at one time or another. Winning fixes everything... then we come back to reality and realize we are impatient mutha fuckas in an instant gratification society and criztoballz is pushing our shit in.Edwin_Bambino said:Honestly this is all kind of a moot point. And yes, shit can bobby. Oh wait, what is that coach lake? An extension and raise. Fucks sake. -
@sonics1993 Can you shed any light on how Jimmy, a guy who certainly SEEMS to understand the importance of recruiting, failed to make any sort of splash move in recruiting as one of his first actions as head coach? It seems like that could have taken the form of getting rid of bad recruiters(Boner and Gregory) or adding an elite recruiter to the staff in some capacity as a position coach or as a recruiting coordinator or something like that.
For a guy who has been very vocal about recruiting and is a good recruiter himself it just seems weird that he didn't take any action.
TYFYS. -
What did you think they would say?! ‘Oh we stupid, lazy, and have no clue what we are doing’....if they really did say that. ‘Its going to be insane’. Thats so fucking lame. Sounds like Jimmy’s bullshit he spews. Why would it be insane? Seems that purple drank has skewed some peoples reality.sonics1993 said:Talked to a couple different guys on the staff and neither of them are concerned about recruiting, in fact they like where they stand in recruiting.
