And that's where you continue to be wrong. Show me a California 3-star RB you think is better than Sunday. Show me California 3-star ILB you think is better than McDonald. There aren't any. I like McDonald more than I like Bruener's scrawny ass. Our coaches feel like those two guys are better than the 3-star West coast options available to them and that's why they recruited them. If there were better options in California that wanted to come here they would have taken them.
Excluding guys like Bijan since we aren't talking top targets?

Guys who fall inside our geographic footprint who are higher rated than Sunday by 247. I don't have opinions on all of these guys because I don't remotely claim to watch this much tape.

    Jalen John - Oregon
    Ikaika Ragsdale - Nevada
    Chris Street - California
    Jyden King - California
    Jojuan Collins - California
    Nathaniel Jones - California
(Borderline top target) Darvon Hubbard - Arizona

Mind you, none of these guys have to even be "as good" as Sunday. Sunday has to be better enough to justify ALL of the resources spent in Texas recruiting guys.

Literally no one has said or implied that. JFC.
When names are applied in reference to suggesting more times should have been spent recruiting them, then it’s between implied or suggested that spending more time recruiting those players would have changed the outcome

Which goes to my point that just because you target something doesn’t mean you will get it
  • FremontTrollFremontTroll Member Posts: 4,744

Jalen John? Are you fucking kidding me? He sucks. Sunday is way better.

They recruited those guys as hard as they ever would have. Texas recruiting did not take effort away from recruiting those guys. All of them said UW was all over them. If our coaches didn't recruit Texas they would not put more time and effort into recruiting their West Coast targets. They would have more time to do non-recruiting related things or more time off to spend with their families. Texas recruiting does not affect West coast recruiting at all. They still visit and talk to the West coast kids as much as they would if they weren't recruiting Texas at all.
Haven't watched his tape just threw out a name. Obviously UW coaches who are good at scouting would likely find the best option. Your obsession over naming specific names is your aspergers showing.

Your idea of time is very interesting. You really think Bhonapha is putting in hundreds of extra hours per year in recruiting just because he loves Texas?

You also have this bizarrely strict reading of recruit interviews. You do realize that in this format a recruit is basically never going to say anything negative about a school, right? Yet Bijan still did at one point this spring say he wasn't hearing from UW even though we offered him over 2 years ago.
  • TequillaTequilla Member Posts: 20,025

Prove we didn't miss on guys because of recruiting Texas. You can't! Therefore it's true.

It's called proving a fucking negative.

    Ballz fucking logic.
Whichever side of the argument you can’t prove the other is false

None of those guys even got a fucking sniff from UW. You're literally just naming a bunch of fucking JAGs. What fucking resources moron? A couple extra hours flight time and that's it. That's nothing. WE WANT THE BEST FUCKING PLAYERS. I don't give a fuck how they get them or where they get them from or how many more hours of work the coaches need to put in to get them. Get the best players. That's it. Recruiting some JAG RB from California instead of Sunday would not have helped our recruiting efforts at other positions and you'd just be sacrificing one position for another. So fucking retarded.

Do you guys think having Ngalu and Heimuli in the boat are helpful in recruiting Troy Franklin? Being a national power will for sure help recruiting in Texas. But so will having successful guys from Texas on your team. I know six years in is pretty late to say LIPO, but I honestly think we're gonna start getting some highly-recruited guys out of Texas on the next few years. Just look at how many kids came up from Texas for the last camp.

    Refresher:

We are extremely thin so Rice ius likely to get some run by default whether or not he is any good.

But yeah that would be awesome if Latu or even Zion passed him.
This is a fucking stupid ass take

The reason you recruit talented guys on your roster is because the best players end up playing. If Rice plays it’s not because he played by default but because he earned the reps

No shit they are mostly jags dumbass, have you been following the conversation? We aren't getting top players out of Texas. It's called an apples to apples comparison. Of course I would rather have had Bona's lazy fucking ass bother to call Bijan back and get a top target but that's not what we are talking about.

Our hit rate in Texas is extremely low therefore, all other things being held constant, to get the one commit(Sunday) you had to miss on a lot of other recruits. All that extra effort is opportunity cost that has to be included when you factor in the value that Sunday brings.

JFC why am I arguing with Ballz? This is my own god damn fault for engaging.

This is such a terrible take

Let’s not even talk about fits and what the staff is looking for ... not everybody is the same puzzle piece and skill set.

Moreover, relying on recruiting rankings is insanely FS

You don't think our coaches evaluated all of those California RB's and chose to offer Sunday over them? You're a fucking idiot. They leave no stone unturned in terms of West coast talent. It's not like they took Sunday just because he's from Texas. They think he's better than those CA guys and he is.

A named example isnt an indication that the outcome definitely would have been changed... Its an example that might possibly have been changed.

JFC this is SAC level of retard...

In a single week we sent 6 coaches to various parts of Texas for a total of 11 days.

    "A couple extra hours."

Sunday was offerred very early and recruited as a top target since the beginning of this cycle. It's not that much extra effort. Yeah, they offer a lot of Texas kids but only zero their effort on the ones that are seriously interested which is only a few. If those few Texas guys are better than the available West coast options at their positions then we should happily take them.

And like I said, Texas recruiting does not take time away from West Coast recruiting. They do it in addition to the time they would put into West Coast recruiting regardless. Texas recruiting is the staff working overtime.

If you cant see that if we hadnt sent those 6 coaches to Texas for two weeks they would have just stayed home and played with their Wives and kids while doing absolutely no work than @StrongArmCobra fucking stupid cant help you

Except again, Sunday has to be such a better fit and recruit to justify all the misses in Texas as well. Is he that much better than all those recruits?

Is the time spent in Texas completely negligible and couldn't be replaced with chasing top targets in our footprint? Bijan?

You'd think a TCU MBA would understand what opportunity cost is.

AND all of our top West coast targets were visited. Zero West coast targets were not visited because some of our coaches went to Texas. Obviously Petersen is not stupid. He's not sacrificing West coast recruiting for Texas recruiting. He knows where his bread is buttered. As long as our West coast targets are being visited by our coaches as much as possible it doesn't fucking matter. Texas has good football players and they're worth the effort. We also don't offer that many kids anyways so our coaches are still able to put in more time recruiting any individual recruit from any region in comparison to schools that offer way more recruits.

Ah, I get it now, so the coaches have all of this extra time that they don't know what to do with other than to go recruit Texas.

They would have joined other coaches to visit the same West coast targets which is overkill. Harris would have accompanied Lake to visit the same kids. Kwat would have accompanied Gregory. That's a waste of time when they could be out recruiting more kids in Texas.
