Yeah because their offer sheet is one of the lowest in the fucking country you idiot. They have time to recruit Texas.UW_Doog_Bot said:
Ah, I get it now, so the coaches have all of this extra time that they don't know what to do with other than to go recruit Texas.StrongArmCobra said:
AND all of our top West coast targets were visited. Zero West coast targets were not visited because some of our coaches went to Texas. Obviously Petersen is not stupid. He's not sacrificing West coast recruiting for Texas recruiting. He knows where his bread is buttered.FremontTroll said:

None of those guys even got a fucking sniff from UW. You're literally just naming a bunch of fucking JAGs. What fucking resources moron? A couple extra hours flight time and that's it. That's nothing. WE WANT THE BEST FUCKING PLAYERS. I don't give a fuck how they get them or where they get them from or how many more hours of work the coaches need to put in to get them. Get the best players. That's it. Recruiting some JAG RB from California instead of Sunday would not have helped our recruiting efforts at other positions and you'd just be sacrificing one position for another. So fucking retarded.UW_Doog_Bot said:

And that's where you continue to be wrong. Show me a California 3-star RB you think is better than Sunday. Show me California 3-star ILB you think is better than McDonald. There aren't any. I like McDonald more than I like Bruener's scrawny ass. Our coaches feel like those two guys are better than the 3-star West coast options available to them and that's why they recruited them. If there were better options in California that wanted to come here they would have taken them.UW_Doog_Bot said:
Yes, you do seem to be missing the point. No one is arguing about top tier elite talent. We are arguing about spending a ton of resources on acquiring 1-2 depth players per year out of Texas when we could fairly easily pull that out of a state like California where we are already beginning to dominate recruiting.StrongArmCobra said:
Am I missing something? We have a shit load of West Coast elite talented committed to us right now and more to come. Were you expecting UW to get every single one of them before they have even won a fucking bowl game against a team with a pulse yet? Some people just like to bitch. We've got it pretty damn good right now.UW_Doog_Bot said:
Good thing we aren't discussing top targets or elite talent but 1-2 depth players.StrongArmCobra said:
I already have. We've never heard from any West coast recruit that didn't come here that UW wasn't recruiting him hard. Our coaches recruit their top West coast targets hard as fuck. We can go down the list and the kid either wasn't interested, was interested but got cooled on by UW, or is looking to get paid. None of them would have committed here if UW wasn't recruiting Texas. That's fucking stupid.UW_Doog_Bot said:
Prove we didn't miss on guys because of recruiting Texas. You can't! Therefore it's true.StrongArmCobra said:
Name the exact recruits they have missed on because they recruited Texas. You can't, because it's retarded ass logic. At this point in our recruiting, the guys they "miss" on are guys that either weren't highly interested in UW from the very beginning or are looking to get paid. That's it. Guys like Flowe and Ransom weren't highly interested from the very beginning which is inevitable no matter how good the program is and a guy like Ringo is looking for money and we don't pay. We are NOT MISSING any West coast recruits because the coaches didn't put enough time in recruiting them. That is not something that is happening. Shut the fuck up.Houhusky said:Glad you could bring the AIDS to what is a decent thread.
Every single recruit out West that UW wanted and missed on was because they are "making an investment" recruiting Texas. Every single one. They clearly do not have enough time to recruit both the West region and Texas.... Damn its fun to make both wrong, overly definitive, and impossible to prove/disprove statements... Now I get it.StrongArmCobra said:There isn't a single recruit out West that UW wanted and would have gotten had they not "wasted time" recruiting Texas. Not a single one. They clearly have enough time to recruit both the West region and Texas.
"hidden gems" is this NCAA 14 or something?StrongArmCobra said:If our hidden gems are coming from WA, CA, and TX that's fine with me. If you can create a bigger pool of hidden gems and select the top hidden gems from that larger pool of recruits, then the hidden gems you're getting have a better chance of panning out. For instance, there was no hidden gem offensive lineman on the West coast better than Victor Curne in his class. There is no hidden gem RB out West this class better than Jay'Veon Sunday. Those guys are upgrades over West coast guys we would have had to take had we not recruited Texas.
Filling out an opening or two in the bottom of the class with high ceiling/low cost recruit is fine. Its extremely difficult in a state like Texas because you either have to spend a lot of resources finding that overlooked "gem" that every other schools in the country somehow missed (because everyone looks at Texas) OR you have to recruit directly against a school with a massive recruiting advantage.
And yeah, Texas is one of the most talented states in the country. We can find and sign Texas recruits who have NFL talent. We might not be able to beat Texas and A&M for guys but we can beat TCU and Houston and Baylor and Oklahoma State for guys who would have been NFL draft pick for them but become NFL draft picks for us.
It's called proving a fucking negative.
Ballz fucking logic.

No, no I get it now. They have all of this time on their hands. Maybe we should be recruiting the Atlanta area as well. Or as Whuggy suggested we should be spending time in Florida. How about Michigan and Wisconsin?StrongArmCobra said:

All of the best recruiting schools recruit nationally you fucking idiot. That's how you get top-10 and top-5 classes. UW will never recruit nationally but when we start winning our fucking bowl games, elite Texas kids are going to start coming here and that's how we're going to get consistent top-10 classes. But for now, we're killing it on the West coast and supplementing West coast 3-stars with a couple Texas 3-stars who are better than them.UW_Doog_Bot said:

"A couple extra hours."
As someone going through the recruiting process (the recruits read these boreds!!!), I don't think you realize how the recruiting process works.
Admittedly, sports are different when it comes to college recruiting, but this idea that Texas recruiting is "extra" is ridiculous. The argument isn't necessarily that the hours are being wasted because we are missing out on top West Coast recruits (although that IS an issue, obviously). It's simply that they are wasted. We're 6-103.
Every recruiting trip is planned in advance, and they for the most part know what they are looking to find. There's no such thing as using extra hours on new locations. Once you're at the event/ location, you're there to find very specific things (say, speedy WR or tall pitchers or great passing PGs).
Let's say you are at a showcase and it gets done a little early. You go over your notes from the day, get contact info, and review with your other coaches depending on your level in the program (also a sport to sport thing, not true for all). If you have an extra hour or two, maybe you make some calls, find some background info, or you talk to some other scouts to see if there is anyone you missed (because at an event you want to make sure you get all you can. The more info the better).
So if they are in Texas to recruit, that's their focus. The argument that you are missing is that we have an incredibly low hit rate in Texas. It's time being wasted.
Is your time at 3 separate showcases worth it if you find one player at your school's caliber? Maybe, if it's basketball, where one hit can change your program, but not for most sports. Could you be using your time better? Absolutely.
Again, I don't think you're really grasping the problem here. The hits in Texas aren't justifying the misses. I know you like to stick to your guns, but you're off on this one. The Texas recruiting has so far shown to be wasted time because we haven't justified our use of time.
I also don't think you know how your "hidden gems" work in recruiting, but that's a different discussion for another time. -

Yep. That's him. Was pretty highly rated. Got him and Alexis because we took a shot. I believe Andersen came because he was a friend of Alexis. Quality contributors all. And from fucking Florida.minion_doog said:

Rich Alexis, John Andersen and the very highly recruited receiver whose name escapes me were all far less likely to come north than a Texas kid. And they were all very good contributors to the team. If you never make the effort you never get the results. No one is saying spend a huge chunk of time in Texas or anywhere else outside the footprint. 5% of your time for 5% of your class seems very reasonable to me. I'd be thrilled with a Victor Curne, Levi level talent every year. Cooper McDonald not as much.

The fundamental problem is this idea that going to Texas is taking away resources from elsewhere
If you check most of the Texas trips are also combined with Utah, Arizona, etc ..
For those not aware of flight times, SEA ➡️ DFW is about 3:15 to 3:30 ... LAX and Phoenix are more in the 2:30 to 3:00 range ... it’s really not material
As for Texas, the question for me is what/how are we doing what we’re doing. Forming strong relationships with schools like Allen HS is a good use of our time ... just like having ins with St John Bosco is for us in LA. Doesn’t mean that we get everybody from those schools. But when there is a good fit and interest, the results can be really good.
There’s a ton of talent in Texas ... it’s good for us to have a presence.
A couple other considerations:
1) West Coast participation is potentially declining and on top of that there’s a P12 perception issue
2) Tech is becoming a BIG DEAL in Texas and the presence of companies like Amazon, Microsoft, etc is increasing ... there’s definitely tie in opportunities there
3) The way Texas recruiting works there are really good players that Texas/Oklahoma never even sniff at ... players like Sunday are great examples -
So you are recommending to me to change strategy not because something WILL change but because it MIGHT changeHouhusky said:
A named example isnt an indication that the outcome definitely would have been changed... Its an example that might possibly have been changed.Tequilla said:
When names are applied in reference to suggesting more times should have been spent recruiting them, then it’s between implied or suggested that spending more time recruiting those players would have changed the outcomeUW_Doog_Bot said:
Literally no one has said or implied that. JFC.Tequilla said:
You can put the time and effort into situations but that doesn’t mean it’s valuable timednc said:

The argument against recruiting Texas is that we can be doing better in California. But who in California are we really missing on?
I get all the arguments but the reality is that culture and fit matter a lot to this staff. Those that receive what we are about will gravitate towards us. Those that don’t wont.
Ultimately the key in Texas is gaining traction. Getting a player like Levi is huge. As the Texas players on our roster produce and get to the league our reputation will only further grow there.
Until there’s tangible evidence that our efforts in Texas are wasted, then it’s a worthwhile INVESTMENT for the program to make if they deem that they have the resources to devote to it
Flower by all outward appearances wasn’t interested in us
Ricks is all about the SEC
Milton likewise thought the grass was greener elsewhere
Jordan Banks still is an outstanding item
This idea that you’re going to get everything you target is insanely flawed
Which goes to my point that just because you target something doesn’t mean you will get it
JFC this is SAC level of retard...
Also, while debatable obviously to what extent of a return we are having, but we are getting at least some results of Texas.
So if you are wanting me to change course, you better be able to convince me that you are going to replicate what I’m already getting with certainty ... and the reality is you have to convince me that I’m getting a higher return -
