2020 Class Prediction

It feels like we're going to take a bit of a smallish class, given we only have 10 scholarship seniors left on the roster by my count. There are a few potential early entry candidates, but I don't think any underclassmen are a lock to leave. I know we freed up a few scholarships from turnover, but there are a couple walkons (Ulofoshio and Fowler) who could potentially earn scholarships this year. I'll assume for now we're targeting 19 spots for the class. Current commits are bolded, guesses are in italics.
QB - Garbers
RB - Sunday
RB - Adams
TE - Redman
TE - Yurosek
WR - Odunze
WR - McMillan
OL - Memmelaar
OL - Rosengarten
OL - Hatchett
OL - Persi
OLB - Smalls
DL/OLB - Shipley
DL/OLB - Lolohea
LB - Racanelli
DB - Esteen
DB - Paster
DB - Hector
DB - Covington
I know I'm dooging on Smalls and McMillan, but there are always a couple high profile guys that the staff closes late. It would be nice if they finally closed a 5 star for once. Those in the know, let me know how realistic this is.

I don't think we take 4 db's.
You are dooging on smalls but otherwise I agree -
Do we need a punter?Woof said:This was a fun thread to revisit last year, so I'll take the first shot at making myself look stupid.

Where's rueben foster?

List looks good. Few thoughts.
- I doubt we take 4 DB's when we only lose 1 (Bryant for sure). I do think Taylor declares though.
- I don't think we target Persi. I think it is Murao or bust after Gaard, Geirean and Roger.
- I hope we do not take 3 WR's. We have to many imo. WR recruiting is always deep on the west coast. Get McMillan/Racanelli and stop.
- I think we land Cooper McDonald.
- We will surprise and land a top 50-75 player not listed above.
-
I think we could definitely take 4 DBs. We could see the 2 leave you mentioned and I could also see someone like Isaiah Gilchrist move on for more playing time too. We also have yet to offer 1 DB in the 2021 class (unless you include Latu), so maybe they see it as a down year?KrunkJuice said:List looks good. Few thoughts.

The one guy who doesn't really look like a possibility, but maybe we shock on is Damian Sellers? Very low chance, but out of guys who COULD surprise he's a contender. -
That's a good choice. I was thinking Murao, Bryant Jr, Wilson, or Smalls where we come out of nowhere and get him. I know it is probably over but I am curious to see Ringo's final list.FKA_Mousecop said:

Bryant is still as far as I know interested and planning on taking an OV late in September. Beating USC will be tough but I wouldn't put it in the Longshot category.KrunkJuice said:

If we're gonna land a stunner it's probably going to be a DE like smalls or banks. -
If we land McMillan and Adams then I think that’s a pretty solid offensive class. Not spectacular, but solid. I’d feel better about it if we could get Murao.Woof said:This was a fun thread to revisit last year, so I'll take the first shot at making myself look stupid.

This DB class would be decent. But I thought we were lined up to do something special at that position this year and not even being competitive for Ransom and Ringo is a real bummer. But Jimmy Lake knows what the fuck he’s doing.
There weren’t many DL on the west coast this year, and we’re well stocked after the last two classes, so I’m not worried about that position. But where this class falls off a fucking cliff is at LB.
At OLB, losing Smalls is unforgivable. And we’re gonna give his scholarship to Cooper Fucking McDonald instead? Pete Kwiatkowski is a genius coach but a massive recruiting liability. It’s been a problem for years and Pete refuses to adequately address it. We haven’t had any outside pass rush for THREE fucking years.
Then moving on to the other colossal recruiting liability on staff... Bob Gregory. We were only ever taking 1 or 2 ILBs this year... but Bob Gregory is so fucking terrible at his job that we’re gonna end up punting at that entire position in the hope that the guy who can’t recruit worth a shit will sign all his top prospects next year. What could possibly go wrong?
It's an okay class, I guess. But not much about it, especially on the defensive side, says leveling up to me. -
Saw some report recently where Powpow told a recruit we were targeting three TEs this cycle. Perhaps we go 3 TE and 3 OL? I'd rather we stay at 4 OL, if we can get the right ones, and dump a WR, if we can't get the right ones. Did any of that even make sense? FML
-
Pinning this in the hopes some of our real hardcore TBSers can deep dive (lulz) it.
Slow motion tits as a preemptive thank you.
-
3 TE in one class doesn’t make sense to me, even if we think Bryant is gone. We still have Otten, Kizer, and Culp so two more TE would seem like plenty. I’m not expecting a position change so is there a possible couch sale?Swaye said:Saw some report recently where Powpow told a recruit we were targeting three TEs this cycle. The backend of our class is always filled with a late riser or two. I expect we’ll land a couple of guys we haven’t offered yet.
Alphonse comes to mind as a DB in WA that fits that category.
Really hope we can land Covington soon. That could help with Damian Sellers, an OLB teammate that we have to make up some ground with to even get an official. -
Pretty fucking underwhelming. Smalls and Ringo along with JTT and the other big dick studs could have been a National title type of defense. We are going to sign cooper fucking McDonald instead. This looks like a top 20 class. Maybe 3 or 4th in the pac. Yippee

I think he's pretty damn good at coaching the LB position. Everything else, not so much, but at least he's good at that.guntlove said:

Feels like we should be seeing some WOOF’s sooner than later as well. Like any fucking day two, maaaaybe 3 could pop.
I’ll set it at 3 in the next two weeks and take the under. -
Good estimation. I did the maff and my predicted class would have finished 19th in 2019 for the 247 composite. Swap out McMillan and Smalls for generic 3 stars and we're fringe top 25.Penace said:Pretty fucking underwhelming. This definitely represents a step back from the 2018 and 2019 classes. Good, but not anything that pushes us over the top. The best thing you can say would be that this could would really help fill a few of our biggest long-term misses (RB, TE, S, and OLB if we could get Smalls).
Fuck, UW is such a perfect position for Sav'ell. Two monster DT classes in the years preceding him and a Jimmy Lake secondary is an absolute dream scenario for a guy who wants to be a 1st round pick rushing the passer. -
Is the thought here that Racanelli will take the Kaleb McGary Commemorative One-Year Trial at receiver before being moved across the ball? Because every indication now is that he's a receiver.
And Smalls? That's even still a thing? -

It would make for a solid, but not spectacular class. OL would be killer though, and so would DBs. Really solid on RB and very good on WR. Killer on TE. Totally underwhelming on the entire D that isn't the back end. This would also be the first class I can recall where the O was better than the D.CallMeBigErn said:

Yep. I think 21 or 22 is where this class ends up. I think the 2021 O-line talent is very weak. I see we still only have one 2021 O-line offer out after the Spring evaluation period. I think the O-line talent available to them in this class is better than in the 2021 class so I think they need to load up. The good thing about that potential O-line class is there wouldn't be any position overlap. You got two tackles in Rosengarten and Persi, two guards in Hatchett and Memmelaar, and a center in Tafia. That O-line class would fit in very nicely.Swaye said:

That is actually an above average sized senior class. I will actually agree with SAC and say we take at least 22.
Out of a roster of 85 kids you have to expect 5+ unexpected departures due to injury, homesickness, etc. If you are trying to count only kids that are likely to leave early then you will always end up too low this far out because you miss out on the small probabilities that add up.
-
Lol we don't lose kids to homesickness! Our biggest problem is the guys who suck and don't play never want to leave!FremontTroll said:
