Chinned but Eason is far from a guarantee. I like talent and I'm glad he's here but QB's need talent and skill. He didn't have much of the latter as a frosh. Hopefully he developed it the two years since then. Thankfully he doesn't have to hit his ceiling to be a big upgrade. I'm cautiously optimistic.
This is fucking Dawgman shit.
You guys are fucking nervous for your date with a hot chick and going over her instagram pictures and being like 'she's not that hot, actually'.
FOH
I'm on the "Eason is going to kick ass this year" bandwagon, but let's not pretend we haven't seen the "unproven 5 star ends up sucking at college football" episode hundreds of times over by now.
What if we had gotten a transfer QB that had this kind of stat line as a true freshman?
72/121: 59.5% completion percentage. 686 total yards, 5TDs and 7 INTs for a shitty 109.2 rating. And couldn't hold the starting job...
Would you take that kid?
Of course I'd take Kyler Murray.
No one's arguing we shouldn't have taken Eason. I'm glad we took him and he sure as shit better be the starter.
I'm just holding off on the Heisman campaign.
My point isn't about the Heisman campaign... it's just that saying players aren't going to get better and saying his college career has sucked... I mean, it's fucking over the top (which i LITERALLY would never do).
GTFO with this 'his stat line tells you how good he is' BS. Look at fucking Jake in '16 if you like stat lines.
Kyler Murray sucked cock at A&M, then got into a good situation at Oklahoma after a while off and was a baller. Just because he didn't tear it up immediately doesn't mean he sucks.
Saying he has sucked is not the same thing as saying he sucks.
Like I said I'm 60% convinced he's going to be a star. I don't think he sucks.
He has sucked though. Just like Murray did at TAMU.
Chinned but Eason is far from a guarantee. I like talent and I'm glad he's here but QB's need talent and skill. He didn't have much of the latter as a frosh. He is super talented, that isn't debatable.
His college career to this point has been bad, that also isn't debateable.
He's assuredly going to be better than Browning, that clearly isn't debatable.
Saying talent is all it takes is how we get doogs like you who still suck off Jake Locker after four years of suck.
LIFPO.
This is fucking confusing. He had a year at UGA where he played like a freshman gun. He overstepped because his shit was made of gold, but this crap is just insane man.
HIS COLLEGE CAREER HAS BEEN A TRUE FRESHMAN YEAR. He didn't suck. He was just inconsistent. There's a difference between those things.
His frosh year was very similar to another guy - John Ross. After JRIIIs first year, we were joking about two wins and shit... players get better. He's learned the offense for a year.
'talent is all it takes' - FOH with that.
You guys are like battered wives with this shit. The Doog move is to be scared of talent.
You guys are so fucking worried to flex because Doogs always flex and then get their pee pees whacked.
He may do some dumb shit, but he will be a completely different level than anything we've had since Locker. And by the way FOH with that Locker shit.
Locker for 4 years under Pete gets us a win vs. USC and either Ohio State or PSU.
No way we fucking lose to Cal last year with Locker. Fuck off with the LOCKNAR hate.
HE PLAYED FOR FUCKING TY AND SARK. Do you think coaching matters or no?
Yep, Skinny was an inconsistent true freshman.
This is also a world where Trevor Lawrence won a ring and completed 65% of his passes as a true frosh with a 7.5 to 1 TD:INT ratio and and Tua won part of a ring asa true frosh and completed 69% of his passes as a true sophomore with a 7.2 to 1 TD:INT ratio. That's what game changing talent looks like.
Skinny hasn't been good. He completed 55% of his passes with a 2:1 TD:INT ratio.
His talent is special but his skill level to this point is not. Is he ready to step on the field and be a star? Maybe. Probably even. I'm like 60-40. But banking on it is doog status.
I think coaching matters and I agree Lockner would have won us some big games under Pete except he wouldn't because he would have been too inconsistent to ever start for Pete. But if Pete did start him he would have absolutely lost games like the Cal game. He was maddeningly, terribly inconsistent. He wouldn't have been as inconsistent under Pete, probably, but it's not like we've seen some incredible level of QB coaching under this regime. It's not like Jake went to the NFL got real QB coaching and suddenly was great.
He was probably always going to be an inaccurate QB.
Just want to start with I love you. But FOH with this shit.
Point A: Yes, Trevor Lawrence was better as a frosh than Skinny. Skinny has had two years to think about it. It was the first year of Kirby. Skinny also didn't 7 on 7 like everyone else.
Point B: His talent *IS* special. How many guys under Pete have had special talent and have sucked? He's in year 2 under Pete btw. I don't think he'll be perfect and I don't think he'll be Trevor Lawrence, but I think he'll be fucking good.
Point C: Please remain cognitively flexible. It makes you stupid to assume that when you change things like a coaching staff that players would be and develop the same exact way no matter what. That is Eklund's territory, don't steal his schtick. Again, it would be easy to say that a lot of Sark players would've been too 'WHATEVER' for Pete to play them. But in fact, Pete won with them because he can fucking coach.
Comparing Eason to Lawrence is fine, but there were some pretty major fucking differences... so 1) Trev Lawrence came into a program that is ROLLING and had everything but the QB. Eason came in during a coaching change and they were figuring shit out.
Also - banking on Skinny to be TREVOR LAWRENCE is not what I'm doing, but I think it's more likely that he's a star than he's not. Because we have great coaching.
This whole thing is like a world in which we have convinced ourselves that all super hot chicks are too much trouble, that's why we date 6s.
Same shit here with Skinny.
Fuck off with the Eklund shit. I don't assume everyone would have had the same flaws under Pete. Sean Parker would have been a monster. Alameda Ta'amu would have been a first rounder. These are positions where kids have clearly developed under Pete.
To this point in time, Pete has shown nothing at QB. Cyler Miles went from looking like a solid prospect under Sark at UCLA to a complete clusterfuck. Troy Williams couldn't even see the field. Lindy ran some awful wildcat plays and came in to throw the occasional bomb that John Ross would drop. And then there's Browning.
I love Pete and I love Bush but it's time to show we can develop a QB. Assuming develop for Eason sounds great but until we see them do it I'm fully LIPO with this staff at this position.
That's a major difference from that Fecklund bullshit.
I love you too.
I agree with most of this - but Skinny is fucking good. Reports from camp last year (from @Sources) routinely included words like 'unstoppable', 'different' and 'elite'.
I mean, listen to our own fucking DBs talk about him... they were like WTF.

I'll gladly admit I'm full blown battered wife about the "listen to our guys talk about the new transfer". I fondly remember when Nate Robinson and Will Conroy gushed about how Ryan Appleby was the best point guard on the team.
We? don't have a lot of data but Tui started a few games as a true frosh and certainly improved a great deal
Browning started as a true frosh and to be fair had a good game or two as a sophomore but never really took a great leap forward
Brock was pretty good as a frosh then got worse
I actually think both sides of the coin over react to his freshman season. Hot take.
Browning would have not started on an SEC team as a true frosh. And if he did he would have died.
I'm not into messianic QB cults, but the odds of Eason being a downgrade seem remote.
Solid point
And Fromm didn't beat him out head to head the next year either
2017 During the off-season highly recruited quarterback Jake Fromm came in. Eason, however was named the starter for the 2017 season. In the first game of the season against Appalachian State, Eason injured his knee. Fromm became the starter and led the Bulldogs to the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship game.
Skinny beat out a top 5 draft pick next year in head to head. Fromm was a freshman but a super frosh as his year showed
You think Fromm's a top 5 pick?
Everyone says so. I have no idea
Fromm and Hubert are the big QBs.
I have my doubts about Fromm but we'll see. He's done nothing but win so he has that going for him. I've never impressed me that much watching him play. His numbers look great though.
I'd draft Tua long before I'd touch either of them.

Disagree with Bush doing a good job last year. Where is this narrative coming from? C at best
Disagree with Fuller sucking. He is pretty good but not a WR #1.
AGREE on rest
Fuller did not break a tackle last year. Which position do you want a guy who didn't break a tackle?
Bush looked good to me and we had tons of people open, but Jake had a hard time doing anything. He wasn't perfect (Bush), but I thought he really improved as the season went on. Hard to do much when you can't throw more than 15 yards and everyone stacks the box and your QB shits himself.
2nd half Rose Bowl Jake was as good as he's ever played because he stopped playing like a scared bitch and let it fly. And our dudes (even your boy Fuller) made plays on the ball (though Fuller still didn't break a tackle).
I feel good about Bush... cautiously optimistic. But I can see how reasonable people would think otherwise. That's just my read of it.
Fuller should be a slot except he can't break tackles or make moves after the catch.

Well yeah in a heartbeat. He's the best one of he bunch. But he won't be draft eligible.

I'm in on Bush, I thought the play calling took real steps forward with the noted exceptions of Auburn and the first half at tOSU. I think he's going to be a good OC.
The flip side is Browning probably regressed. I can't bring myself to say @Babushka was a better QB coach, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a little nervous about Bush at QB coach. That said, chin ability to unfuck Browning is hardly a failure.
If Eason's good this year I'll be full blown Smush For Bush.

I think Browning regressed because his cramps just got a lot worse.
But again, that's not based on hard evidence, just my feeling from watching closely.
Also - I've heard (and it doesn't take a genius to surmise) that there was some trouble in paradise between Jake and Bush. I think Bush prefers QBs that play well and Jake was not amenable to that.
When's the last time UW had a 4 year starter (or even a SR QB) get benched for not doing shit?

Fuller doesn't break tackles, but he does get open, runs good routes, and makes some good catches. He doesn't suck. Needs to be more physical.
Bush is TBD due to Browning, but even still I saw nothing from him that looked better than Smith

So Myles Bryant is the player we can shove into DDYs face this year just to point out the times he is wrong?
We need Squirrel for some dead wood still... but more and more we have positions with talented depth.
QB: Haener prolly should kick rocks. RB: This is a logjam of JAGs until it isn't. WR: Fuller, Pounds, Andre, Chin all are JAGs or worse (shoutout to Fetters for saying Andre was our best WR at the end of last year... lol). TE: No one really sucks. OL: Henry Roberts, what would you say you do here? Other than that, everyone is actually decent. DL: Scrempos is the only scholarship guy that shouldn't be playing. 2020 on the DL is going to be boner worthy. OLB: Myles Rice - seems like a nice kid, but bro, you've been here 14 fucking years. ILB: Kyler Manu, Kyler Manu, Kyler Manu, Kyler Manu. Tommy Togiai plays for tOSU. Kyler Manu. DB: Gilchrist is the only dead wood and we're only 94% sure he is.
But still, our roster is changing THIS YEAR. This is the year. Even though we are young, we are vastly more talented than we've ever been. We are going to start looking like alphas at some point this year.
QB: Will Haener stick around or hit the transfer portal after this season? Maybe HE IS here to play school and we won't be able to shake him until he grad transfers. RB: Do you see Dick Newt getting some snaps at RB or at the Chico/Ahmed role? Will we see Cam Davis at all or complete red shirt see you next year(maybe)? WR: Could Chin end up a 1 shot change of pace deep threat?(this is best case to doog for imo)? Is there any chance we actually see our talent get to play the outside spots and move Fuller into the slot where he would seem to be a more natural fit? Can Jr. teach Ty Jones how to catch a contested ball? Will Chico ever look like Chico again or is he done and playing school at this point? TE: Do we just focus Hunter as a receiving threat and have him essentially replace a receiver who is a JAG anyway? Do we finally get to see a shit ton of 2 TE sets where we get to jam it down our oppositions throats? OL: Adams please stay healthy, which if he doesn't how does that play out with the rest of the line? DL: I know the big Q is Taki or Tuli but is there any chance for Mosiah Nasili-Liu to make an impact? Dude has been looking scary in workouts. OLB: Laiatu Latu getting 4 games in? Fuck I want to see this kid play. He's just fucking huge and stupid quick for his size. Not expecting him to take the spot or anything so don't twist just hoping to get some glimpses of the future. ILB: What are the odds Ben Hines beats out the more talented players and continues to piss off HH recruitknicks for the next three years? DB: With the lack of depth at safety will we end up not red shirting either/or of cameron davis or spam chancellor?
Kicker: What in the ever loving fuck can we fix this position already?
I chinned this because I agree with many takes. Assuming most didn't because they are (a) stoopid (b) can't read this much or (c) Got pissed when you mentioned Chin might deserve any amount of playing time.
All I want to know is which positions Dr J and Kyler Gordon are playing. Those are the only real questions needing to be asked and answered, aside from several other open positions and players there are questions about. I can't fucking wait to see the DBS this year.
THIS.
Why the fuck isn’t anyone talking about Julius Fucking Irvin?
Is it just cause his arm was in a sling at the Rose Bowl and he was in sweats at the Husky Underwear Olympics?
Kid had the most insane HS DB film since David “I fucking love climbing trees” Long Jr.
Plus, his dad is hilarious Twitter stalking LA Rams cheerleaders, and his accountant brother was super fucking nice at the bar post-Auburn. “Saban used burner phones, but Pete remembered my name and asked how work was going.”
Comments
Like I said I'm 60% convinced he's going to be a star. I don't think he sucks.
He has sucked though. Just like Murray did at TAMU.
Hopefully Bush/Pete can be Lincoln Riley.
I mean, listen to our own fucking DBs talk about him... they were like WTF.
I'm no more Dooging about Skinny than I am about thinking Tuli is going to be good.

Eason too.
Skinny '6-6, 230, 4.8, insane arm talent and ability to make plays in crunch time' Eason
Salvon '4.32' Ahmed
5 receiving targets 6-2+ with talent: Ty, Spiker, Auzzy, Cade, Hunter, Puka...
Terrell 'I'm 6-1, 200 and run 4.48' Bynum
Trey Lowe and Cam Davis...
AND
5 starters back on the OL with quality depth...
Then literally fire everyone.

I honestly can't recall.
Also, who's starting at defensive end this year? @Dennis_DeYoung probably knows.
In all seriousness, I had a slight erection seeing the rumor than Haener might transfer.
Fuller doesn't break tackles, but he does get open, runs good routes, and makes some good catches. He doesn't suck. Needs to be more physical.
Bush is TBD due to Browning, but even still I saw nothing from him that looked better than Smith
I Smush For Bush!
