I always feel awkward when I go to a fast casual type of place and they flip the thing around to sign with my finger and theres the option for a tip. Like what. no. why you puttin me on the spot.

I'm a good tipper, and I don't feel awkward. If they come and take my order and bring me my drink or food fine. If I walk into a chain driven Sushi joint, then no.

Since Covid I'm just thankful that the person showed up to the job and is even reasonable friendly and competent. I don't think I've left a tip less than 25%.
Sounds like someone is trying to come up with an excuse to justify the fact that they are a shitty tipper. Talk to anyone who has waited tables.
A new study finds many waiters and waitresses feel that black Americans generally tip less than restaurant diners who are white. The study, by a researcher at Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, found that blacks tip on average 20 percent less than whites. In addition, restaurant workers of all races dislike waiting on black people because they assume the tips will be less no matter how good the service. NPR's Juan Williams reports.
Put myself through undergrad living on tips.
Racist or not, $2.00 was pretty standard among exactly one demographic of the population, even to their own. It was a fucking joke, but we just rolled with it and turned the tables as fast as possible.
Hilarious that we used to hate Canadians and Europeans because they only tipped 10%.
I’m a 20% max guy. And it goes down from there if service sucks. But it never goes down past 10% though.
Here's something I've always wondered about tipping. If you order something to go do you still tip and how much?
I suppose it depends on what kind of establishment the place is. If it's a large restaurant, the cooks get paid differently than the wait staff so no unless you want to give a few bucks to the hostess or whoever packed it up for you.
I worked in nice joints all the way through college, and I tipped out the bartenders, hostesses, bussers and the line from my wad. When 5 or 6 waiters are all doing the same, each guy on the line walks home with about an extra $20-$25 in his pocket every shift he works. Bussers get even more tips because they earn less per hour than the guys on the line, and waiters were paid sub-minimum wage while declaring no less than 8% tips on their sales.
If you're good, you're averaging 18% and clearing 13% on a typical night shift, so the 5% non-taxable bonus is a gift for busting your ass.
My experiences were great, the system worked, Seattle won international awards for having the best service industries in the world and everybody was happy.
Then came the lazy, entitled, untalented socialists fomenting their revolution from shitty, overpriced, fair-trade coffee shops where the tip jar became a fixture like the penny trays at 7-11. Tipping shifted from a reward to a tax and it's been downhill ever since. Service in Seattle almost uniformly sucks compared to 20 years ago.
Welcome to the totalitarian world of mandatory everything.
Fuck Off, Socialists. You ruin every fucking thing you touch.

There's a reason Starbucks is so big, despite their very average coffee. Prompt friendly service.
Too many drab indie shops in Seattle where the baristas always finish their social conversations before addressing a customer, then act annoyed that they actually have to perform a task.
Fuck all of them. Never, ever tip the jar unless they do something extraordinary for it.

I tip 10% because half the effort is required. I once tipped a bitch ass waitress .01 because it was obvious this black chick did not like interracial couples. Food purposely delivered cold. Place was not busy at the time. Horrible attitude towards us. I've never done it before but we stopped on the way out and I cornered the manager. Told him his waitress was having a bad day and he needed to send her "ass" home. Dude hands me his card and a free dinner offer. Asked where we were seated, I said "black chick's section." Off he went.

Interesting. I waited tables at 3 different establishments and we never tipped out the line cooks. We did tip the hostesses and bussers though. I even cooked on the line at the RAM for a while.
In traveling around this past year, we tip more on the generous side - up to 30%. We do not do fast food but will do take out from restaurants. We tip usually $10-15 for the take out. The service has been good at almost every place we have been, but this past weekend at a family gathering at the Marriot in Odessa, the waitress was the first time we had so so service. But at the same time a group of 12 without reservations walked in and asked for the restaurant to be re-arranged. So I still tipped well.
In the 3 weeks leading up to Christmas, we gave our waitresses (no waiters in Texas?) a $50 bill on top of the tip and told them Merry Christmas. We were just trying to give the economy a boost. Got some touching replies. Did that about 5-6 times.
Now because of this thread opening my eyes, I will quit tipping because it is raycist

What made it obvious she didn’t like mixed couples. I have hade many shitty attitudes and cold food served.
One thing I noticed is black people (and mixed couples apparently) site examples of being treated poorly because of their race and then give examples of shit that happens to everyone. It’s never the person was having a shitty or there was a mix up or misunderstanding. It always seems to be they are out for me because of my race.

It was quite simple. Watching her interactions with fellow diners. Especially the mother and daughter sitting in the next booth. Black. Bitch outed herself.

Also, I don’t believe your story.
Does everyone have black guys come up to them when they're out in the club telling them that there is no way they're satisfying that black woman they're with? The number of times someone ever said anything to me and my wife was when we were dating many years ago and it was only a few times and it was always black males doing the talking. I didn't give a fuck. But I did find it interesting that my wife and I have travelled all over the West in some very small rural towns where she was the only black person within miles and I never heard a negative word from anyone, in fact I found that many times that people were overly solicitous as a way of wanting us to feel more comfortable.
Again, this was all many years ago, mixed race couples are way more common now. From what I see on TV, all couples are mixed race, or gay.
Sounds like someone is trying to come up with an excuse to justify the fact that they are a shitty tipper. Talk to anyone who has waited tables.

Worst tippers are Indians followed by blacks and then Europeans.... then the tech bros from SF... Latinos are somewhat decent.
