Took quite awhile but I finally got my second commission humidor from Harland Brown. Like the first one, it's all completely handmade. Went nuts on this one and had him hand lay custom inlays. Also got drawers which I like so far. This one does not have a complete electrical humidification system like the other one. It's Boveda based, but he did build the Boveda holders in hidden chambers below the drawers. Really trick. It seals super well and looks the absolute business. Not cheap, but like the other one it's heirloom quality. Worth it. In the group photo I didn't even have it loaded. Now it has about 300 stogies in it. Still have the Daniel Marshall Treasure Chest desktop on top of the bigger one, and I still have about 20 boxes upstairs in the refrigador. I think I'm done with cigar storage now. I have plenty of space for years of stogie aging. Oh yeah, I also just got a box of Cohiba Behike 52's from a friend in Norway. Actually got them at retail pricing! Huge coup. My cigar life is coming up aces.

edit: Forgot I also got a box of those Pappy Van Winkle @DHD pimped ages ago. Love them. Delicious. -

My next recommendation:
Stillwell Star 2022 Holiday Limited Release
I've been curious about Stillwell Star in general, so I thought I'd give these a try. I thought they might just be a gimmick, but they're made by Dunbarton and I love their stuff. They're made with pipe tabaco, and I always love the smell of pipe tabaco and thought the idea of a cigar with that aroma would be cool to try.
I was NOT disappointed.
I'd compare it to a holiday stout or winter warmer in the beer category. A great seasonal taste with something very different, particularly for sitting out on a cold winter day/night and relaxing. They aren't infused or anything, but the tabaco really does have a distinctly different flavor, very similar to the aroma of pipe smoke.
I got 4, but a box is on the way. A GREAT change of pace.
-
Another recommendation:
Arturo Fuente Oro Rosado Magnum R Super 60
Over the summer this became my go-to smoke. I like it MUCH better than a number of the more spendy Opus X's that I have in the humidor. Massive creamy smoke volume and nothing harsh or bitter.
By far the most consistent smoke I've got in my stash. Construction is perfect and I can't recall having to touch-up a single one or having any burn issues. They can be a little tough to find, so I always grab a few when I see them in stock.
-
Another recommendation:
Mi Querida Triqui Traca 764 (far right in the picture below).
This is the biggest cigar that I consider smoking on a regular basis. It's outstanding, but it's a meal. 7x64 and a solid 2+ hours. Great for watching a baseball game from start to finish.
It's a Dunbarton/Saka product, so quality is outstanding, and the flavor is wonderful. Has a little bit of sweetness to it, at least at the start, and even though it's a long smoke, I never found myself getting tired of it or feeling like the flavor was too "one note".

Thanks for those of you who have chinned in, I am still learning the cigar game. Was in Missoula a few weeks ago and grabbed a handful of sticks from a nice little shop. Half will probably be garbage and hopefully a couple will be good. I smoked a Carillo Pledge last year and loved it, tried one from the smoke shop and it was meh, what gives? They didn't seem too dried out...I dunno, it's been a couple weeks and I'm ready to light one off
-
Hard to account for inconsistency across the Pledge. Perhaps it got dry in storage at some past point, and even though they rejuved it the oils are still down. The Pledge is so delicious because of that oily wrapper. Goddamn I love Pledge. You inspired me. I will have one today.dannarc said:Thanks for those of you who have chinned in, I am still learning the cigar game. Now that I'm BACK in Worshington my cigar phase is struggling
-
My cigar phase wanes each year come Nov. 1 or 2 per week becomes 1 or 2 per month. Supposed to get some highs in the 50s later this week so might be able to light up on the porch.RaceBannon said:Now that I'm BACK in Worshington my cigar phase is struggling

Imagine it being too cold to smoke a cigar

28 is pretty fucking cold to smoke a cigar. I got up to 47 yesterday and I lit up a Pledge Prequel. It was nice and oily and didn’t suck at all.dannarc said:Imagine it being too cold to smoke a cigar

Another recommendation: My favorite "short" smoke from the summer and now working its way into my winter rotation.
Oliva Serie V Melania Nub 460
Box pressed and absolutely consistent every time. I'm not a big Oliva fan, but the Serie V Melania are a solid stick and the Nub version (4x60) is an extremely good smoke. Great flavor, big smoke output and very smooth. Now that my smoking time has shortened due to the weather, this has become a good go-to.

Always like short smoke recommendations in winter. I huddle around a heater and suffer.DHD said:

It's been as cold as a well diggers ass where I'm at. Went outside last week and threw an armload of wood in the outdoor fire pit, torched it off, waited about 30min until the mix of Doug Fir, Locust, and Apple wood was properly ignited and throwing some good heat, grabbed a lawn chair and kicked back smoking one of my last C. Pledge's. Just as I lit up it started lightly snowing, neighbors probably thought I was losing it. That fatty took over an hour to smoke, I stood up and about fell over, I was buzzed as shit from one cigar. Had a hangover gut ache that night. Maybe that's why @YellowSnow doesn't smoke when it's cold out? At hunting camp we smoke cigars in a 20'wall tent with very little ventilation, and it's almost impossible to see across the tent with all the smoke, never bothered me.
Anybody have any sites offering decent prices on some sticks now? -
Hey @dannarc I had a Pledge Prequel on Saturday with a high of 28 and the sun was going down. Doable in full sun, but in some shade I was getting frost bite on my finger tips. I sexted @Swaye the pic and he could see the snow on the ground.dannarc said:It's been as cold as a well diggers ass where I'm at. I just can't do the garage. Just can't. Need to experiment more with my portable, propane firepit which technically speaking I can put on the porch.
