Well, we could have said the same thing when his time under Obama was cut short over disagreements on his Iran policy. I know nothing about Mattis' policy positions. Chances are, I wouldn't like them. As far as I can tell, Mattis possesses strong and competent leadership skills. The last three months has shown how little leadership competency most elected politicians have.creepycoug said:

For the first time I wondered if Trump could be vulnerable after Mad Dog's comment. I will still be shocked if he loses. But does it matter? For the first tim, I'm actually starting to wonder if Trump is vulnerable, even against a complete fucking retard like Biden.
I didn't think the virus would do it. That felt foisted upon us all; and even though I couldn't settle on a view about whether Trump was doing a good job leading us through it (because sometimes I thought he was and other times not), I really didn't think the Hong Kong Flu was going to do him in. Something like a pandemic is intractable and the entire world was dealing with it in a global shit show.
But this thing now is entirely domestic and we?, the country, own it, for better or for worse. Now you have MD talking shit about Trump being divisive. It's early June. We're all going to blink and it's BOOM, we're in late August and everyone's attention will be on that big shift into life in the Fall.
I'm guessing this will all die down, and America's ridiculously short attention span will help Trump in that it'll be behind us by then. If the economy is back en fuego at that poont, I think he beats the Bidentard despite the stumbling. If not, then his foibles could catch up to him. Ironically, I don't think it'll be his best policies that will help him at that point because his best policies are somewhat of an abstraction for the average American. I also think running a heavy handed police force to manage this crisis will be forgiven, too, because the truth is, when the shit hits the fan, the average dip shit wants someone to handle it. The things we toss around here about statists is also an abstraction to the average American. I don't think they'll care. And for Trump to lose, he has to lose part of his base. -
Mattis is competent. But he doesn't set policy and he an US military interventionist at heart. Trump is much more competent than barry, PIPS, Slo Jo and any other dem candidate. Trump fights and puts American interests first. Surprised that Mattis doesn't seem to appreciate that.

Biden will win the popular vote rather easily but the electoral vote basically comes down to 8 swing states - AZ, FL, MI, NC, NH, NV, PA, WI. Trump won all of them except NV and NH in 2016. The wildcard this year is the 3rd party vote (I combined Johnson and Stein's 2016 share). With Amash standing down, it looks unlikely a third party candidate will get a meaningful enough share of the vote to alter the results in these states like they did in 2016.
Let's assume Trump wins Florida again but Biden takes his home state of PA. From there, Trump's easiest path would be to sweep the other Midwest states and hold NC. For Biden, he'll need to hold NH/NV and pick off one of MI/NC and AZ/WI.
