Also, there will be more deaths from opening, even if there's 20 total we will hear about blood on Trump's hands and sacrificing granny for the economy . The dem governors are going to get a hard pass on that from the media for heroically having to figure out that "grim calculus". As it stands they'll also get a large amount of blame for their states' Economy imo since we have the laboratory of democracy going with different openings.

So while pushing opening might be the "right" thing to do where's the political motivation to do so? There's no political win to be had there and better to pass than raise at this point.

Trump is using 1A as the button to push. Most Americans were raised on Schoolhouse Rock and can recall the Bill of Rights from when they actually used to educate on such things in public schools. They understand Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Assemble, Freedom from Establishment of a State Religion....

Using the Commerce clause is a little more esoteric and nuanced. It's a good psychological move for Trump to stick with the basics. And he's got a guaranteed win. No governor is going to push back on that one in Week whatever the fuck we are in now. Maybe in Week 2 they'd be crying "but but public health and safety". That ship has sailed because of Flip Flop Fow Chee and the plummeting mortality rate.

The risk is economic devastation. To a leftard that is a feature and not a bug. Private sector jobs are viewed as white privilege even though we had record low black unemployment.

The left is rooting for economic devastation. That's what they want as they think killing the economy is the only way they stand any chance in November.

This is where I see the “defend Trump at all costs” in the Tug. You are a lot better and I expect as much.

    1. On sincerity. Bullshit. Nobody changes that fundamentally that late in life. It’s purely political. Which I don’t mind, if there’s a play with which I agree. Agree to disagree on this point because it’s unprovable. It’s basically the last thing I’d ever believe about Don, good or bad. You may as well try and convince me that Melania chose him because of his personality.

    2. Again, I thought Trump’s charm is that he’s NOT a politician. That he makes the hard decisions for the right move for the country. This ain’t the right move. It’s next to useless for the country, as you well know. It’s pandering to the religious right to stoke up the base. If we must do this in some kind of roll out order, then the right move is business first, then schools, then social organizations. My feet are taped to the pedals on this one.

Much more nuanced, particularly since it nominally references Congressional power over interstate commerce.

But this is a guy who hasn’t shy about about saying “just fucking do it” and at least applyIng pressure. Technicalities be dammed.

You’re defending this hillock to the death. I’m not sure why, but I respect you for it.

In protest of the shut down, this past week I said to hell with it and went out to dinner - except the restaurants were closed, so I went out for a drink - but the bars were closed, then I said "what the heck, haven't been to church in a while", ate 12 crackers and drank 4 glasses of wine.

Maybe Trump knew I was hungry and thirsty?

@creepycoug - I actually wished he would have just opened EVERYTHING
