Of course Stalin is going to ignore the obvious best chess move at this time because communism.DerekJohnson said:
I think I can relate to Trump on this. I do think he cares about this issue. I haven't been to church in over 20 years, but I know how important it is to a lot of people. And there's absolutely no reason why people can't social distance and worship at church.creepycoug said:
If he's doing to just get votes and doesn't really care about the issue, which I strongly suspect is the case on both scores, then it is pandering.GrundleStiltzkin said:
I don't think it's pandering, because he doesn't need to.creepycoug said:
That's all well and good, and I understand.LebamDawg said:I think Trump wants to have one state stop a religious service and then he can sick DOJ and its might on the Gov. That makes sense - and he gets all the religious vote no problem. I thought it was obvious when he said he wanted religious services to open up that he personally can't stop the Govs. Hasn't every Pres used threats like that and turned to the DoJ for support?
Why the religious side first? He can count to ten and he gets votes.
If all goes well and church services are held, not sure what his next move will be, iwbiew
I think it is Nap- like I need one after reading all this
But I remain confused: I thought we? liked Trump because he wasn't a politician. Not because he's a particularly shrewd one.
I don't like much about Trump, but 99.9% of what I do like about him is that he understands business and trade and is very clear which team he plays for. He understands the economy. He understands the relative importance of it.
Standing by pandering to the people who can't sort out another way to worship for a few months, while politically expedient, seems like a priority problem. And, frankly, that crowd is very easily manipulated. I would think it easier to manage that crowd; pander but not prioritize. The business crowd has no feelings. When it comes to commerce, I'm either open for bidness and making money or I'm not. The Church crowd could have been satiated with rhetoric for months.
Jimminy I would have opened up college football with full stadiums before worrying about the churches. We're a pretty big voting block too, and our hobby contributes more to the economy.
If I'm Trump and in a game of chess with the rogue governors, I can only move one piece at a time. The freedom to worship is a good chess piece to move at this time.
But, no, I reject your position out of hand. It's the economy Stalin.
I ask, again: who employs like 7 people, pays no taxes, won't help you pay your bills, fund your healthcare, save for retirement or add to GDP?
If I'm playing chess (btw, why does he have to play chess? I thought we liked Trump because he plays checkers), the business move will make more people happy, and it's the more important move to make. There is no hangover for Church. Open it a week or a year from now, nothing changes with them. They're like Race; they haven't moved.
Bidness? Bidness can rot on the vine. Time is of the essence before we fall into a deeper hole from which it will be more difficult to emerge.
I'm pretty much 1,000% right on this and all the other takes are wrong and apologetic.

I’m not looking for confirmation bias, but I haven’t seen any constitutional law expert give an analysis that suggests he Trump can override anyone. -
No official is going to be arrested, at least not for shutdown orders.

I think you under estimate the sincerity of Trump's religious motivation. Mind you, I'm not religious at all and I think there's plenty of hypocrisy in Trump's "finding" religion but I would take him at face value on this one that he really does give a shit about people's freedom to worship.creepycoug said:

Atbs Jake browning and lockdowns suck. I share your wish that he'd get things moving but a libertarian president(which he shares some characteristics of) makes a poor dictator.
