I work in IT in the DC suburbs. Obviously it has become much more informal over the years. With many places moving to wearing virtually whatever, we had an official dress code of long pants (slacks or jeans) and a collar up until this year. Now it's basically use your own judgement. At our annual customer conference we had to wear ties up until 2 or 3 years ago, but to appear less stuffy in the industry we ditched the tie requirement. That conference and weddings/funerals are the only times I wear my suits, which kind of sucks cause I like to look nice and think I look decent in my suits, but it's just not practical to wear them.
I don't go to downtown DC that often, but did yesterday to take my kid to a concert. I was impressed at how many full suits I saw on the Metro and around downtown in August. It was hot and humid and gross and the lobbyists and bureaucrats were still rocking the sport coat and tie. I respect that. -
In the 1990s @whlinder Row Boat had to wear coats and ties on all airplane rides. They told us the University is paying for your trip so you’d better make us? look respectable. I think they still have to do so but I’m not 100% on this. No sweats or track suits for classy AF row boat.whlinder said:I work in IT in the DC suburbs. I could hook you up with one of the two. I'll even put on a suit that isn't even camo. Eastside!Doog_de_Jour said:

Food for thought. I'm taking over our outside sales on the wet side but moving to Leavenworth to do it. Currently in Spocompton. My dress up has always been casual, nice dress shirt, shoes and Levi's or Kuhl pants. You and Race make good points and I may want to give it a trial run. My biggest problem with a suit and tie etc is that it's just not me and I want to be authentic to my customers. Anything that might better myself/sales/company image however is worth consideration. If anyone needs premium high quality blow up dolls or oversized butt plugs I'm your hook up.creepycoug said:
CEO of my old company would say that you take yourself more seriously in a coat and tie. And he was right. You don't slouch at your desk and half-ass as much. You like you look more serious so it translates to how you feel. You feel like a serious adult ready to do bidness, not jog around the track.RaceBannon said:

Sounds like you have a bleach HH in your near future - Leavenworth may not be the spot, Wenatchee can hook you up.
Don’t worry about the wardrobe, won’t be a problem for long. -

At least football coaches haven’t adopted the baseball manager’s model of wearing a player’s uniform.
Today we are one step removed from stained sweat pants and a tee. It is remarkable how informal we are
