In conjunction with Leavitt's expected departure, Oregon is also expected to promote co-defensive coordinator Keith Heyward to become the school's new defensive coordinator. Heyward was hired as Oregon's safeties coach in January of 2017 and then after one season promoted as co-defensive coordinator under Mario Cristobal. He previously coached defensive backs at Louisville in 2016. Prior to Louisville, Heyward served as the defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator at USC from 2014 to 2015. Heyward also has stops coaching at Washington, Oregon State, and Cal Poly. He served as a linebacker coach at Coly Poly, his first full-time coaching job.
In all honesty it’s probably for the best. Leavitt is a really good defensive coordinator. However, he wasn’t happy he didn’t get the HC job after Taggart. He also stopped recruiting. There was a lot of friction and you really can’t have that in a staff. But, he will be missed and Hayward better step up to the plate. I hate that this is coming off as quookish because I’m not WDWHA by any means, but you can’t have a toxic coaching staff and be successful. Leavitt brought us from garbage to respectability defensively. We? need to keep it going.

What Oregon really needs is less coaches and more recruiters
After the last year of the Helfrich debacle, the first thing I noticed under Leavitt was the improvement in 1-1 tackling.
Leavitt has a gift. He was asked to play ball under difficult, if not insulting circumstances. I raise a glass to the guy. Even if he did check out, as many of us would have.

Ducks lose! Ducks lose!
They didn't want him anyway
!
Heyward is okay, I guess. I really wish we would have taken that $1.7 million we pay that crusty old fuck and used it on a proven commodity.
Seems the players aren't too happy:
Sure it is.
