Oh, just the #1 rated CB in the West. No big deal.
Aren't Steele and Wright ranked slightly higher?
...but still.
Yeah, Chris Steele is probably a better prospect and is ranked higher. Wright and him are essentially at the same point.
I don't understand rankings for recruits, frankly. I think you can kind of separate them into tiers, but that's about it. Either way, McDuffie is not an ELITE player (there aren't any elite CBs on the WC this year), but he's damn good. Pretty impressive bit of recruiting by Jimmy Lake.

That’s it. Latu, Paama the rest of the DBs and all of the OL are a small step below. If we somehow get Ford he’s there.
This. I want to see senior film on a couple of these guys. I think the guys we were in on who were truly, truly elite we lost all of them but Tuitele (Ngata, Charbonnet, McCoy).
I think Spam is close. I think Heimuli is.
Who from the last 3 classes would you call truly, truly elite°?
Bryon, Taylor, Tuli. Hunter. We don't really get many of these guys.
Our recruiting has a long ways to go. We are doing better than ever, but if we want to be a top 5 team our classes have to be consistently top 10.
Next year we have a real shot, but we will probably find a way to cock it up.
We've consistently cocked it up in previous years so why not?

Exactly. I think there are like 10 guys next year we are in on who are elite. But honestly, I don't have much hope.
QB: Bryce Young we are still recruiting, but we got blown out for him even though they will have a new coach and they have a new OC. RB: We didn't even make Kendall Milton's top 10; Bijan Robinson is elite and likes us, but I don't see any way we get him. WR: Johnny Wilson is elite. I don't think we will get him. OL: Hatchett is elite - Coker thinks he's going to Oklahoma. I think we have a good shot, but we shall see. Myles Murao is pretty fucking elite. Maybe? OLB: Smalls obviously, but I'm not optimistic. Pete Latu is elite, but I don't think he has the grades, sadly. LB: Justin Flowe - lol no. Botelho is up there. DB: Ringo, Ricks.
Out of all these guys I don't see any obvious wins. Murao is probably closest, but you always have to assume anyone good at MD is going to USC.
Smalls and Ringo are possible, but Ringo's mom is probably going to bone us. Smalls is a hard call. I still don't think we have the 'brand' that attracts these kinds of players. That's why we can't seem to get the Fozzies, etc.

The most true and by far the most depressing thing I’ll read for awhile so just like the rest of my problems I’m going to alter my state of consciousness to hopefully forget about it and start dooging all over myself when McDuffie commits and convincing myself we’ll get every single recruit on the west coast next year setting up my eventual suicide when we miraculously just get one of those guys.

So, these guys are basically like DDY4. For so long, Pete has been getting a lot of DDY1 and DDY2 with a sprinkle of DDY3. In the last two recruiting cycles, Coach Pete has been getting a lot of DDY2 and DDY3. I think the Huskies are 1 or 2 more recruiting cycles away from consistently getting these elite recruits.

Of our current/likely commits who is truly ELITE?

Kelee would be the best recruit Pete's ever signed and he could be as low as the third best recruit in next year's class depending on where you rank Hatchett.
Smalls could be the best recruit UW's ever signed.
And 2021 could be as good or better at the top.
Or we could whiff on them all not named Huard.

Oh, just the #1 rated CB in the West. No big deal.
Aren't Steele and Wright ranked slightly higher?

So, these guys are basically like DDY4. For so long, Pete has been getting a lot of DDY1 and DDY2 with a sprinkle of DDY3. In the last two recruiting cycles, Coach Pete has been getting a lot of DDY2 and DDY3. I think the Huskies are 1 or 2 more recruiting cycles away from consistently getting these elite recruits.
We're probably never going to consistently get the uber uber elite guys. We have a good shot next year because two are in state and another is from here. Basically the same thing with 2021.
There have only been two in state kids of that caliber since Pete got here and he lost both of them. Foster cost Strausser his job and Eason transferred back with three years to play two left.
There are two in the 2020 in state class (three if you count Latu) (plus Ringo), and at least two in the 2021 class (Huard and Tui) and arguably many more (Latu, Simon, Egbuka, Brown, Tinae, Alexander). You're going to get 10-15 year worth of elite in state kids in two classes.
But if that's all we get (elite in state kids or kids with in state ties) I don't think that means we should expect to keep getting elite kids at that rate going forward. There hasn't been even a whisper about the in state 2022 class when by comparison we already knew about at least 8 instate 2021 kids by this point their freshman year. The state isn't going to keep producing talent like 2020 and 2021. And we're probably not going to ever consistently get THAT caliber of talent from out of state.
Which is why 2020 and 2021 are so important. We have to close these kids.

I dont see any reason why we won't land a couple of those elite guys. We always start lower on the totem pole for the big time guys because we don't suck them off early like a lot of other schools (which the staff could probably work on a little bit). We always make up a ton of ground in the middle and later parts. We always load up on the 3 stars that don't want to miss out once the 4 star dominoes start to fall.
The amount of things that would have to go correctly for us to land a REAL class next year are basically the amount of things that have gone well in the entire Pete era + 20%.
Pete just isn't really serious about recruiting. It's pretty much that simple. If he were, there's no way Boner, Greggy, Paopao and Lubick would be anywhere near a job after early signing day.
I've been paying really close attention to the top 2 teams in every conference. We aren't close guys.
The issue is that we just don't take it that seriously. So, like this year - EVERY position needs to look like what our DBs look like at the minimum. That's a typical top 10 class.
We think that's ASTOUNDING - but really it's just average for top 10 teams.
We really need to change our expectations from 'good for a second tier P12 team' to a Top 10 in the country team.
For all teams in the top 10 we are by far recruiting the worst (outside of UCF).
Again, we have been the best overall program in the Pac for the last 3 years and we can't score a top 5 WR on the coast. One of whom's brother is on our team.
The thing is - the space between where we are (which is pretty good) and where we are going to need to be to seriously contend, we are stile miles and miles away.
If we close with Ford/Bru, Wright, Latu, Heimuli, Henry and McDuffie - then we are getting there.
Let's look at the top 20 teams in 247's composite ratings...
When you look at the amount of top 300 players (over .90 rating, basically) in all classes (and USC) you can see where things are for us:
So, basically we'd be tied for 9th in the SEC in terms of elite players.
ACC - Tied for 4th Big XII - 3rd Big 10 - 4th Pac 10 - 4th
So, that's the reality of our top end talent. I'd like to see this number be 8 for us next year. And it's easily possible.
