Seems like the line of thinking
on here is that Petersen won't
fire Smith because he never fires people.
Essentially he fired Robert Prince by not
bringing him over from Boise in the transition.
This is a coach who has a pretty good legacy
working. I can't imagine he wants to fuck
up that legacy by employing someone who is
effectively tarnishing it. Coach Pete has showed
pretty good balls so far when firing players.
I don't think he's scared to do the same with coaches.
    We shall see.

P.S. Results on the field are still on the head
coach but Smith makes a pretty convenient scapegoat.

The other thing that bothered me about Smith was before the Oregon game, when he said the 11 game losing streak made him sick to his stomach and kept him up at night.

How can that be true? He hasn't been here and gone through everything that we've endured. It was a Sark kind of thing to say.

The other thing that bothers me is he sucks.
Its actually the main thing that bothers me.

Looking up at the stars, I know quite well
That, for all they care, I can go to hell,
But on earth indifference is the least
We have to dread from man or beast.

How should we like it were stars to burn
With a passion for us we could not return?
    If equal affection cannot be,
Let the more loving one be me.

Admirer as I think I am
Of stars that do not give a damn,
I cannot, now I see them, say
I missed one terribly all day.

Were all stars to disappear or die,
I should learn to look at an empty sky
And feel its total dark sublime,
Though this might take me a little time.

    I MISS WASHINGTON DAMMIT!

    Pete replaces Smith
Pete gives the job to Brent Pease
    Inject me with AIDS

Awesomed for the random play generator...

Ditto. A picture is worth 81 words. I don't even need to read the article now.
    I read it!

Good chit by our favorite dictator...
    Yeah. So did I.

I dunno. Smith is clearly learning on the job which sucks. As I replied to Tequilla in the thread where @Gladstone has gone OBK on me Smith was clearly not the right hire but now that he is making improvement maybe he can be the right guy going forward. I appreciate and recognize @EsophagealFeces concern that it is too little too late because we still aren't there in terms of play calling. I don't think Petersen needs to stick with Smith and would happily welcome a proven, capable OC to replace Smith. I don't think replacement is the only possible route to success though. Maybe it is and in a year our offense will still suck and we'll need to clean house again. As @Dennis_DeYoung there is no fucking way Petersen is replacing Smith and I think that is probably true. Only time will tell.
Sorry, you can't fix stupid. And Jonathan Smith is just not bright. Dude scored a 27 on the Wonderlic. I bet you couldn't score that low on that test if you tried.

Firing Smith is the obvious move but Pete won't do it. He'd rather adhere to the loyalty to his coaches than loyalty to his players mantra. Same crap we saw with Sark and Holt until there was enough pressure put on Sark to fire Holt. Unless fans/admin demand Pete fire Smith, he isn't going to do it, even if it means 1-2 fewer wins/year.

    ...yes

Had to spend some time on that, but I do think UW will win @Stanford and won't drop another random game. Apple Cup loss in Seattle doesn't look likely given results since Petersen took over.

UW will beat ASU/USC/Arizona rather easily in the Champ game, say 34-17. At this point UW either makes the CFP and gets beat by Bama by 17+ again, or makes the Fiesta Bowl and beats an Oklahoma/Penn State/Ohio State.
