The reason UW has been "too young" more often than not is failed recruiting and development. When too many of your recruits flameout or stay with the team but suck, you are forced to play first or second year guys.

Just look at the current team if proper recruiting & development took place.

On offense you'd have a returning QB, returning WR in String or someone else who was recruited instead of String and any of the OL that Sark whiffed on 2012 (Garnett, Banner, Harlow, Nembot). All of those OL are returning starters for their schools. Thats a total of 6 guys. Adequate recruiting and development would have resulted in 3, while Petersen gets 4 or 5.

On defense, the 2011 and 2012 recruiting particularly at LB and DB was atrocious. Last year's D was very experienced except at DB. In a normal scenario you'd have had a legit safety next to Butta and another CB.

So you are looking at up to 8 starters not returning because of poor recruiting and development. Thats why there is so much youth.
    Too young excuse
