After reading the reviews, I was honestly expecting much, much worse.
The biggest issue that stands out is the directing. The director from the first season was absolutely superb and set the mood perfectly. Why they would go with the Fast and Furious guy for a crime noir is beyond me, and utterly stupid. The repetitious overheads of the city, that awful bar scene, and the gay Avengers-style face-to-face panning at the end of the episode made it clear that the director is out of his fucking element.
Story-wise, I'm intrigued to see where it goes but it's clearly missing a lot of what made the first season great.
As long as we get some Rachel McAdams sex scenes, I'm good. Riggins' Latina chick ain't bad either.
BTW, what was the "weird" sex thing she tried in bed that freaked out her bf in her first scene??? Serious foreshadowing me thinks.

Sex was brought up with every main character; each of them having a unique defect or situation. Defect is probably a bad word but I left my thesaurus in my other sweatpants.
Not to mention the dead guy with the dildo collection. His house was awesome.
I haven't watched it yet, but last season wasn't great the first couple episodes either. Then by episode 3 and 4 it took off and was great until the finale, which was shit.

Very true. I pretty much had to beg my wife to keep watching it after the first 2 episodes. Although I think I'm the only person who actually liked the Carcosa scene. The house, the wife, and the guy were just so damn creepy. The hospital part afterwards was stupid though.

Disagree. The first episode of season 1 hooked me as much as any show ever has.

But it was nothing as gripping as the first episode of Season 1.

"Then start asking the right fucking questions."

Season 1 delivered on the ta tas. Season 2 failing miserably.
