I don't understand the narrative that talent wins games. I know everyone hates Romar (except for me), but one of the doogliest doogy things I've ever heard was 3F saying that Romar inherited a ton of talent...
Uh, all those guys SUCKED until Romar was the coach.
That's what happens under good coaches, mysteriously, the talent looks a lot better.
If you think Boise had 'a ton of talent' you aren't thinking about it right. Everyone has a 'ton of talent' if Boise had a 'ton of talent'. It's just that under CP Boise's players developed to their ceiling.
Like, I don't know, how, say Danny Shelton, Hau'oli Kikahahahahaha, Shaq and others did this season.
If you don't think other people are going to step up next year in a similar way you don't understand the talent/coaching equation.
On this bored we are arguing that talent>coaching? ON THIS FUCKING BORED?!?!?!?
Fucking Doog police should come shoot everyone saying we don't have enough talent to win next year.
FMFYFE.
This is some nice RahRah locker room gang bang dick sucking cheerleader bullshit
Coaching can overcome opponents talent, opponents talent can overcome coaching
It takes fucking both to consistently win in this dreckfest Pac12.
It takes years of top tier development to take a guy who didnt get any other offers to play in the pac12 because he sucks and turn him into a valuable starter. Not to mention you are relying on Petermen to develop players whose potential was evaluated by fucking Sark.
Its ok though... I bet all the players are staying this summer to work out, the QBs are putting together 7 on 7 drills every afternoon, every player has talked about the difference between this year and last year, the 17mph treadmills are being warn out and chocolate milk is in high demand.
Next year the raw talent will be worse, the coaching will be the same
UW may improve more than the other pac12 teams during the offseason (closing the gap, doog hopefulness not based in reality or past results) in the future but it wont be enough to overcome the massive gap in talent at nearly every position on the offensive side of the ball and the top players lost on defense this year
Since the only thing that matters is coaching, shouldn't Petermom have been able to overcome the piss talent Sark left last season?

For me it boils down to this - I can't say I think Petersen is the guy and that the season is over and we're still the year after next year's team. If he can't develop and recruit we don't want him anyway. I think the 2015 season is real and it should show us far better than the dreck we saw this year. If not, then the year after next probably won't be special anyway
The dreck this year starts and comes close to ending at the QB position.
We'll lose in some areas going to next year and have a lot of players stepping into replace them that will grow during the course of the year. I expect that this will be a team that will grow significantly from Game 1 to Game 12.
In the grand scheme of things, the difference between this team being 8-5 (before the bowel game) and 10-3 or 11-2 this year really wasn't all that much. We aren't even having this discussion if that took place.
OL - Sucks QB - KJR Sammuels or True Freshman or walkon fratboy RB - Mediocre WR - pedestrian TE - Who?
DL - Decent but not Shelton and Kikaha great LB - Meh, I like Feeny CB - Good SS - Ok
Unofficial next years prediction: official more accurate prediction will be posted closer to the season start

That's nearly worst case scenario in my opinion. @Boise, Utah, Arizona. You have them losing all 3 games. I think they'll win two of them and go 7-5. Between 6-6 and 8-4 is the reasonable range of expectation. I think Cal/SC are the upset potential games from your list that could blow the season outside of that range (good or bad). Goff probably goes ape shit on the Pac12 this year and will go high in the 2016 draft, Cal will be dangerous; and Peterson will have a bye week to prepare for Sarkytits.
To others in this thread - coaching matters and fuck TBS shit, but what did UW accomplish on offense last year? Categorical failure, almost a complete throw away at QB, OL, Johnathan Smith, Ross now on D, a bunch of transfers, etc. I think the UW D will surprise in 2015, but on offense I didnt see any foundation that was laid in 2014 that serves 2015 as a base to improve upon, none. It's almost like it's still year1 on that side of the ball. Unless Miles or KJCS make some miraculous leap in development, then I think you all will beat your chest in preseason and then bitch about it later, again.
I still believe in CP but the offense is way behind schedule from what I see and it will be obvious in 2015.

Petersen year 1: 8-6, 6th in P12, L in Cactus Bowl Petersen year 2: ???????????????
--------
So by looking at the elite coaches that entered a program during the BCS era, it takes a full season and offseason to start to yield success and show signs of greatness. If Petersen is who we hope he is -- then next year will tell us a lot.
Great poast.
I don't see us being great next year, but I do think the doom and gloom is too much. I expect a winning season with a record resembling this year, but better play.
One thing I don't understand about the logic that "we're losing so much" (especially on this bored) is that we all fucking know the players don't matter nearly as much as the coaches. Sure, Shelton is great... sure Shaq was rad, but what did that really get us this year?
We beat the teams we were superior to and lost to the teams we were inferior to. All while playing the shittiest QB I've ever seen start a whole season at UW not named Ronnie Fouch (though, honestly, Fouch was probably better).
I don't see how next year will be any different.
Shelton was Alameda Ta'amu before last year. Shaq was a 'maybe could be awesome' player, Kikaha was inconsistent and Peters was definitely our most consistently dominant player. We kicked him off, got massive production and/or consistency upgrades from the rest of our good players, but it still didn't mean our D was dominant because our back-end were all freshmen and the rest of our players were average.
The coaching matters, a lot. I'm still pretty pro-Pete and I think we will be good next year and then we will start to be REALLY good the year following that.
2016 WILL BE SPECIAL!!!!111!!!!
I agree that Fouch was probably better but that was 2008 and I don't think I was sober enough during any game to really remember anything.

The largest "swing" here will be how much effect does Pete's coaching have on our program.
Our QB situation was dreck this last year, enough said on that.
If Pete is anywhere near the evaluator/developer of talent that we think he is, he will either develop Cyler into a real QB (I have my doubts on this). OR, he will have one of his QBs that he recruited himself ready to play.
If Pete can't recruit a QB who can perform at a higher level than Cyler did this year, that is really bad. That is not a very high goal to achieve.
I don't think we will be world-beaters, but its not like the 2014 team was loaded with talent (there were positions with great talent, and others with no talent). You will lose talent every year. Hell, even Colorado with their shitty seasons managed to have first round NFL draft picks.
If Pete is a top tier coach, we should see improvement upon this previous year. This seems clear when looking at previously successful coaches. We will see what Pete is made of this year.
I agree in premise and I like the research but to compare what Petersen has at UW with schools like USC, Florida and Ohio State is not apples to apples. UW doesn't stack up in terms of prestige or recruiting with any other school on that list other than Oregon and even that comparison is tough because of the impact that Nike had on their success.
Not trying to be an apologist or make the case for not having high standards. I do think we can build this program back but looking at the talent-base we draw from and looking at what's on the roster right now I don't think that a comparison to what Urban Meyer or Pete Carroll took over is accurate.
UW is going to have to build their program the same way Stanford did: 1) Recruit kids where education matters 2) Have kids playing as redshirt juniors and seniors rather than over-hyped 19 year olds. 3) Get a group of kids that will beat teams because they outwork/outlast them rather than being more talented.
We need to see real results this year and a North division title year 3 or we have the wrong guy
Again
Oregon is in your division. lol.
Blue Devils took Dook first.
Meh. Dook is a much better fit for the resident "Quooks" in here.
Among the definitions for Dook are .....
"A hook upon which crispy, shiny de-feathered ducks are hung upon."
and ....
" .. a large creamy substance that flows out the backside of all human beings and most animals. Usualy flows out in a shape that ends up looking like ice cream and/or frozen yogurt. Past tense= dump."
Flexible adaptation leads to abundance on this one, and besides, who in here really GAF about Duke?

I have to do everything around here...

You are the quintessential equivalent of a Doog which makes you a Dook.

Shaw has one Rose Bowl trophy (with one loss) in four years. Helfrich has one Rose Bowl trophy (no losses) in two.
Helfrich has finished 1st in the North both years he has been head coach.
