If you couldn't tell from my posts I am T1 but was adult onset in my early 20s. I lost close to 50 lbs in a couple of months before being diagnosed because like you my body was eating its muscle for energy while I had super high glucose. I guess I am lucky I married young and my wife dragged my stubborn ass to the doctor. It took a few years for me to really figure everything out with meds and diet but I've been well controlled for 15+ years now.
I didn't realize T2 could hit that level of high blood sugar. JFC. Can you get the prescriptions you need to control? I was shocked at how few supplies my mom can get as an old lady T2 thru insurance. I get basically whatever I tell them to give me. Continuous Glucose Monitors are a game changer.

Yep I take a daily insulin shot and 4 horse pills of metformin. Don't need anything else as of yet. My BP is around 120/70 and all of my blood chemistry is good.
My Dr pushes the continuous glucose monitor every time I talk to him. I'm pretty stubborn and don't plan on trying it anytime soon.

Type 1 is insulin dependant. You'd be dead in just a few days without insulin. A bg of 600 will get you into ketoacidosis, which will make you drop lots of weight and will definitely kill you eventually.

Chaffee has been pure carnivore for six years. An Australian researcher gave him a friendly challenge to do his blood work. When the results came back, the researcher said that if he randomly took blood samples of 100,000 people, Chaffee's results would be #1 without a doubt. So Chaffee's argument is that humans ate that way forever until roughly 8,000 years ago when farming took a prominent role, and then of course cancer and dementia suddenly appeared 100 years ago out of nowhere, right in alignment with the industrial revolution and processed foods.
Chaffee also points out situations like where you have Chinese parents who are 5'2" and eating tons of rice and noodles, and then they come to America and they have a son with a more meat-centric diet and the son grows to be 6'2".
There is something to this.

A woman I know just went through a medical situation where she passed a kidney stone. I relayed to her what Chaffee talks about. That the body produces a certain amount of bile each day and awaits the consumption of fat to which the bile will be used. But when people, especially modern women, avoid eating fat at all costs, the bile sits stagnant in the gallbladder and after some time begins to crystalize. As it crystalizes it forms kidney stones, which then get passed quite painfully. My friend avoids eating fat like the plague and I think hearing this from me was a revelation that this could have been the root cause of her medical problem.

I too am stubborn but having that extra data and not having to test 5x a day is so incredibly valuable. My A1C was good before the CGM but with it and the extra info I was able to cut it to the low 6s. 1,400 data points per day is a lot better than 5 and really changes your behavior.
I thought he was T1 because I had never heard of a T2 reaching that level of blood glucose.
