The JTT criticism is out of control. He started every game for a team that made the playoff.
OSU isn't starting somebody because of recruiting hype, they have tons of hyped recruits on their bench. They're starting him because he's damn good.
Good teams scored on Ohio St. 87 points allowed last 2 games. It’s not an elite defense.
JTT is good but there should absolutely be more production to date, though I also agree that he played great against Georgia. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s first team AA next year, wouldn’t surprise me if he had less than 5 sacks again either. EWIWBI.
My prediction on JT was that he would contribute as a freshman, part time starter as a sophomore (slightly off), and have a pretty good junior year. Late first to second round pick after the year when he is finally getting good.
He was never the #1 player in the country, but he is good. TBS heads think he’s better than he is and others that say hes completely overwhelmed are exaggerating. The answer is somewhere in the middle.
JTT is well positioned to be a first round draft pick in '24 or '25. Arguing about whether or not he was truly a top 5 high school player seems like a waste of time given the abundance of actual busts all over college football.
Just to be fair, some of these guys are bouncing around practice squads and position filling etc ... That's some significant earnings after all.
Take Benning potao'e ... practice squad, regular roster, probably a few stints on the IR as a strategic dump for roster flexibility.
Was on Tampa Bay now with Washington Commanders.
He may never earn a regular rotation contract but it's possible he sticks around for 10+ years for roster flex and earn a good amount of money plus a pension before he retires at 32 and starts running draft/combine prep with Tracy Ford lol.
