Christ - the are no bad ideas in a brain storming session. There are some aspects of yours which I really like- e.g., using the old ways to whittle things down to a semi-final. This is great. But I feel like everyone would be pissing and moaning that some teams would have a far easier path based on the first round match up- e.g., if really good Big 10 team got a Pac 12 cup cake.Dennis_DeYoung said:

Killing the bowl tie ins is FS.GreenRiverGatorz said:Keeping the classic bowl tie-ins for the first round is fucking stupid. The SEC would always get to avoid the conference winner from another P5, and there would be plenty of years where the #1 and #2 team would face off in the first round. Also, the G5 doesn't deserve shit just for going undefeated. They get one autobid, and the rest can fight for one of the two at-large spots if they're worthy enough.
Other than that, I agree. 8 is the obvious next step.
Everyone acts like this is some fucking competition to show who the best team is. Guess what? It's not. It's just theater.
The bowl tie-ins is what makes college football unique. A lot of people outing themselves as closet NFL fans here.
Fuck the NFL.
Also - In the past 10 years there has only been one occasion where there have been two undefeated G5s. So it's not something we'd really need to plan against.
Also, making undefeateds an auto-bid strengthens the regular season. -
16 teams.

The whole fucking logic is 'do it on the field', right!?!?!?
WELL THEN WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT SEEDING!?!? If you can't beat Bama in the first round it's unlikely you will beat them later. It makes no fucking difference when teams play. The idea that the final game is always the best two teams is FS.
It's not that way now and it never has been. The only way that kind of thing makes sense is when you have a structure with two separate divisions (like in the NFL).
The main fucking special thing about CFB is the bowls. Americans are so fucking stupid they want to ruin everything for the 'appearance' of shit.
PLAYOFF ARE NOT FUCKING GOOD AT DETERMINING WHO IS BEST. THEY ARE NOT.
They are good at determining who is the hottest team at the end of the season, possibly, to about 70% accuracy.

SIXTEEN TEAMS... is a fucking joke?
You think the #9-#16 teams are any fucking good?
For fuck's sake. Now we basically will have a regular season that doesn't MEAN FUCK ALL and then a watered down round of playoffs. We will no longer have any bowl games and the season will go on forever.
FUCK 16 TEAMS IN THE FACE.
What should really be done is bowl tie ins, then the current system to pick 2 teams, but that won't happen, so fuck it. -

I assure you Dennis that in an NFL hating competition, I can hold my own with anyone here. And there's a hell of a lot more than just(now diminished) Bowls which make CF a far better product than the NFL:
For example:
- Better tailgates
- Better Fans
- Better pageantry
- Better (non generic) stadiums
- More exciting games and varying schemes
- TBSing
- Try hard kids of all population groups playing for the love of the game and a free education
I can go on and on.
