@TurdBuffer is right. Why spend years perfecting the craft of buffing turds and making your way up the turd buffing ladder only to have some pimply faced turd sniffer get that same amount of money that Turd Buffer gets? TB perfected the craft of buffing turds. It is hard and arduos work that requires attention to detail. Then some kid fresh out of high school comes in sniffing turds from day one and gets paid the same amount of money or within a dollar or two of what Turd Buffer earns after spending 15 years of hard work perfecting his craft? Bullshit! You suddenly move the first job employees into the middle class and the middle class into the first job clas and it is a recipe for disaster. Like TB said what is his incentive to Buff a turd better now? NONE. What is the incentive for turd sniffer to move up to Turd handler and then maybe turd buffer? NONE. The higher minimum wage in Seattle hasn't killed off businesses, raised unemployment, or raised the price of goods and services there by 25%. Keep freaking out though.

Seattle is a unique market. A lot of high tech jobs and high paying sales jobs. In the short term Seattle has enough wealth to overlook the problems. Bill: Alaskan Amber is 9.99 a 6 pack at my local store. Last year it was 7.99. That's not 25%, but it is 20%. Literally every item at the grocery store, corner store, or restaurant has increased at least 15% over the past year.
The unusually hi-paying jobs among younger, single workers, also makes Seattle an unusual environment to measure the effects since they easily absorb the price increases without sacrificing much of their consumption.
I don't think $15 will hurt Seattle overall, but it's going to change things where, for example, a person pays 1/2 of a barrista's hourly wage by buying one coffee drink. -
Well you're buying your beer at the wrong place BROTHER, because I just bought a sixer of Lagunita at Trader Joe's for 7.99. Well there's a petition or some kind of movement to raise Arizona's to 12. I actually agree with you in that the hike is probably too extreme and does raise prices too much in some cases. It should probably be gradually raised to something more like $11.50 or $12 there. Still I'd rather see the $15 wage than the status quo though, or the idea of abolishing it. There's enough poverty in this country as is. If you let the rich libertarian types get their way, the race to the bottom will just ramp up to another degree.
