It is simple. When business has to give more money for less productivity, the cost of goods rise.

The solution is full automation for basic service and manufacturing jobs and a guaranteed inflation adjusted income for everyone under a certain floor. Let people that want to work work, but stop this chicken and egg charade with the proles.

Or more money for the same productivity. Or a million other reasons why it kills the initiative to work harder and get better at one's job. I support a reasonable minimum wage, but I don't believe minimum wage jobs should pay a living wage. If you can't get 40 hours at an above min-wage job by the time you're over 18, you aren't looking hard enough or working hard enough. Sorry.

So the gas station attendant should be paid enough to buy a house, send his kids to college, cover his healthcare costs, his vacation pay, life insurance, retirement savings, and on and on, in Sawant's world. Then, why aspire to be anything more than a gas station attendant? Fuck it. You're set for life.
