Roof Think Browning Should Start

I see the reasoning but didn't Kellen Moore redshirt?

Goff is a good comparison and 2015 is Petersen's 2nd year at UW rather than when Goff started for Dykes in Dykes' 1st season @ Cal.
One of the biggest questions is if UW can get bowl eligible with a true frosh at QB? Even if Browning ends up starting, I still see some Wild Swede packages.

This would be a disaster. Did she not watch the Spring whatevertheyrecallingit?
The kid's like 17. Let him redshirt, then earn the starting job as a RS-FR. Browning looks like he could be a legit 4-year starter, if his body and his confidence aren't totally shattered by pushing him out there too soon. -
If Lindquist/KJCS starts this year, then they'll have to start for the rest of their career? Bullshit.
-
If he gives us the best chance to win now he should play. Period.

Okay, let's take this fallacy by fallacy:
1. The myth that Browning is still too small. Right now Browning is bigger than Cal’s Jared Goff was when he started as a freshman. Add to that the fact that Browning is bigger than Tony Rodriguez, the juco transfer from CCSF. So if Browning is too small, then so is Rodriguez.
How did Goff work out as a frosh? Cal went 1-11 in 2013. 0-9 in conference play.
And who the fuck is advocating for playing Rodriguez? Talk about a straw man argument.2. If Browning were to start this year, there’s nothing better for the development of a player than simply starting, period. Yes, he would take his bumps and lumps, but he would have 13 games under his belt entering his sophomore season.
If this were true, then why does anybody ever redshirt promising frosh QBs?3. If the Huskies were to go with Jeff Lindquist ( and we all know what a great Husky he is and that he’s a very capable athlete and quarterback), then you’d have to start him next year too to be fair – so Browning would be riding pine for two years going into his third season, with no starts.
Utter nonsense. You open up the starting job to competition again each year, just as Peterman has done at every position since he arrived. There is absolutely no reason Browning couldn't earn the starting job as a true frosh; in fact, I fully expect it.
4. Another very capable quarterback is K.J. Carta-Samuels, but here again, Carta-Samuels plays 3 years and Browning doesn’t start until he’s a junior?
7. If Jake Browning does get the starting job this year then the odds of playing four years are better than 75%, and he did not come to Washington to sit on the bench. Again, this whole mantra about how he needs to get bigger and stronger is hogwash, he’s as big as a lot of guys playing in the Pac-12 right now, all he’s missing s experience and some more time in the weight room.5. Browning is the most decorated high school quarterback ever signed to the University of Washington, and one source called him “Coach Pete’s new Kellen Moore”. Coach Petersen brought Browning in for a purpose; to recruit around, to build an offense around, and to win a championship. He’s said that it’s about putting the pieces together, and getting that most prized possession of a record-shattering high school quarterback who enrolled early was a huge, huge piece. The other piece is going to be a big-time tailback.
Exact same things were said about Jack Lockner. Who redshirted.6. The expectations are not high this year for the Huskies, so is the timing right? It’s my belief that it is more than right.
Nobody is claiming, under the best of circumstances, that Browning as a true frosh is going to make this team a P12 title contender. Why would anybody risk the health and confidence of a purported savior on a season where the presumptive ceiling is, what, 8 wins? This makes no sense whatsoever.8. Browning enrolled in the spring and has spring football now under his belt -- 15 practices, he’s been learning this offense.
Oh, fuck. Fifteen practices? That changes everything.9. Development for next year and going forward is a factor, but there’s no suggestion here that Browning takes every snap in every game – Browning would have an extremely capable corral of back-ups to rely on. But the key is to make it his offense and his team. The coaches have packages that include more footwork for guys like Carta-Samuels and Lindquist, but when it comes to being the pure passer, Browning is your man. There's not enough known yet about Rodriguez because he hasn't yet practiced with the team.
A revolving door at QB would only make a bad situation worse. Was Roof not here for the Stanback-Durocher-Bonnell shitshow in '06?
Give the 2015 job to Lindy and see what he can do with it. If he falters, try KJCS. Rodriguez is here purely as an emergency 3rd stringer for 2015 only. Again, with the plan of re-opening competition again in spring 2016, per usual.10. If you take a realistic look at the Husky roster, they’re very young. If Browning started and the Huskies were to be able to win 6 games and get to a bowl game, including bowl practices, that would be extremely beneficial going into the 2016 season and so on.
You have to have patience, and take your lumps, while you're working through the roster holes you're predecessor left for you. Putting a slight-statured, hesitant youngster behind a young, shitty OL is a recipe for disaster. You'd literally be inviting a career-altering injury to this prized recruit. -
This. Fuck Spring Ball. Browning has had over three months since then to work on his game and dig into the playbook.Gladstone said:If he gives us the best chance to win now he should play. Period.

True frosh QBs basically *never* give you the best chance to win. That's the point.Gladstone said:If he gives us the best chance to win now he should play. Period.

Nothing erects a doog dick like a kid getting 15 extra practices. Spring enrollee, bowel game, etc. We haven't developed a kid over five seasons in the last 15 years but 15 practices means a true freshman is ready at QB.

I'd rather have Browning play in 2019 than Browning play in 2015

Ragnar Vikinquist is going to be the starter and is going to exceed expectations. He is gonna kill it off play action and will keep defenses guessing with the threat of tucking the ball and running.
Of course, this doesn't take into account that Jonathan F Smith is the OC, not PGOS. So there's that.
