Cody Pickett played as a true freshman and everyone thought he sucked and we were fucked. HTH.
Turns out he was a LOT better as a RS-Soph than a frosh.
I'm one of those taylor barton doogs that was not happy to see pickett win the job. #trueconfessions
I think you might have a great idea here for a terrific thread: Name your most embarrassing doog moment of your Husky fandom (Or Coog, Quook, and Broon moment for our nerds from other schools)

No kidding?
How is this relevant to what we are talking about?
As Bill Swartz famously said during the Nebraska game in 1997, "Those aren't the Lake Washington Kangaroos Marques is looking at." For anyone to pretend that Tui's development was not accelerated by gametime in 1997 is absurd. Do people think nothing he learned after seeing the field for 3 years was integral to his outstanding season in 2000?
Pretty tough to compare the Tui situation and the pending Browning situation since Tui had more talented and complete teams around him.
But Browning was around for 15 practices in the spring and is a more advanced passer at his current stage while IIRC, Tui didn't graduate early and was more of an option guy coming out of high school.
And IIRC, Tui's first game was when Huard got hurt and we were down against Nebraska but Tui got us back in the game, especially with some deep balls to Jerome Pathon. I was there that day and was bummed we lost but remember being excited about what the future would hold for MT.
One interesting thing to note is that in his first high school varsity game (as a soph), Browning threw for 689 yards and 10 touchdowns (setting a state record for touchdowns in a game). Combine that early success will the fact that he also graduated early to get here for spring ball tells me he has no intention of redshirting in 2015. But will he show a lot more progress in the fall and force the coaches to start him instead of one of the older guys? I'm guessing that Petersen doesn't think it's likely considering he wanted another body (Tony Montana) as a buffer to preserve Browning's redshirt after seeing the 3 QBs in the spring.
There is a mountain of evidence that playing true frosh is fool's gold. (At any position, much less QB.) And zero evidence that redshirting somehow retards a player's development.

This is so astonishingly uncomplicated.

Since he made it up, he will have difficulty finding a citation.
I remember watching Kaufman in 1992, thinking "Wow, he is really good. Think how much better he would be if he had spent last year sitting on the bench and this was his first year playing. And I would feel more comfortable with Bruener if he had not caught that td in the Rose Bowl last year."
Do people sincerely think Tui learned nothing from 1997 that he could have learned simply from watching from the sideline? Are Baker and Dissly are less prepared for 2015 because they played last year?

If you need citations to understand that true frosh suck as a general rule, I cannot help you. Re-watching the past twenty years of Husky football would be a good start. Or perhaps re-reading this thread.

That's some dark shit man. You have me wondering if I even want to keep poasting here.

Why is this so hard for people?
Michael Vick was great as a rs-frosh, yet somehow that means he would not have been even better as a true soph? Explain that.

Playing prepares you for playing.
1. Redshirt all OL and DL
2. Redshirt QBs
3. Redshirt everyone else
At the end of the day, best players play.
I will start another thread comprehensively listing every Husky who truly excelled as a true frosh over the past 25 years.
You guys are dooging so hard for Browning it's unsettling.
