A Hardcore Husky O.G. sells the couch
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of our OG's, Pawz.
His real name was Andrew and he passed away on October 17th from cancer.
Pawz was a staunch supporter of both Husky Football and HardcoreHusky.com. When the annual fundraiser rolled around he was always one of the first to donate and send an encouraging note. He'd say "Always supporting the site!" or "Anything for the site!"
He could be an intense guy and it showed at HcH get togethers. He'd point a finger and strongly emphasize a point on whatever topic we were discussing. I would smile and push back and we'd go back and forth until resolution.
He got a kick out of the late @puppylove_sugarsteel and would either delight in a recent Pup rant or express frustration over how much a douche Pup could be.
Pawz's interests expanded beyond Husky Football, of course. He was immensely passionate about poker and downhill skiing. (Whenever you've seen me post an occasional link to a poker video, it was with Pawz in mind).
The last time I saw him in person was 10-11 months ago at a Hardcore Husky get together at Romio's in Kirkland. Given that he and I were both going through medical travails, we compared notes as it were. Physically he was looking halfway-decent, but I was shocked when he pulled out his phone and showed me photos from a few months earlier. In the pics he was emaciated and weary-looking. The procedures he had gone through were difficult and taxing.
During this past summer there were a couple of times where I noticed he'd been absent from the boards. I would reach out and he indicated that his medical situation had developed complications. Earlier in this football season, he posted on the boards that he was in the hospital and trying to find a broadcast to a game. (I believe it was UW vs. Ohio State). After we recommended YouTubeTV, he posted a pic from his hospital bed of two games going, including the Husky game.
Six days ago I noticed that he hadn't logged onto HcH since October 5th. I sent him a message, but didn't hear back. Later in the week the word came that he had passed away on October 17th.
As Hardcore Husky heads toward its 14th year, I reflect back on the friends we've lost. From BeaverMobile, DeLarry, Pup and now Pawz. (There is also one other that I am 99% sure has passed but I haven't confirmed it so I will withhold his name).
At our next Hardcore Husky get together, which at this point looks to be in the Spring, we will raise our glasses and toast to the memory of the great Husky fan, Andrew aka Pawz. He was 47 years old.

Fuck. I had some great exchanges with @pawz and reached out to him in November 2023 when I went to a game. He was dealing with his medical stuff then and at some point in 2024, it seemed like he was doing better.
RIP to a great guy, you’ll be missed.

Doxxing the dearly departed, a Hardcore Husky tradition like no other!
Andrew was a quirky guy no doubt and I had some fun interactions with him in real life, the most notable of which was an early April ski day at Mt Bachelor in 2022. Pawz was first and right on DeBoer and while riding up the Pine Marten chair, he guaranteed me that the Dutchman would win big at UW. Can confirm that Pawz was a great skier.
Saw him for lunch a few summers later post cancer diagnosis - his mom had a place in Sunriver - and he looked like hell, but was in good spirits and was fighting the good fight. Fuck cancer as the old saying goes.
Rest in peace, Pawz. -
When I wrote the obit for @DeLarry in 2020, I posted a photo of him. Before I could blink, I received a PM from Damone saying if he ever died to not show his photo.
-
Rest in peace, Pawz.
-
Well, Damone is not much to look at, so wouldn't be worth posting a picture of his smug face.
-
T’s and P’s to the family.
-
Gonna have extra seed oils today in honor of my pod!
-
Damn, I liked Pawz. We talked very now and again about diets and life. I knew he was fighting the good fight but he didn't say it was becoming so dire. RIP buddy.
-
Fuck.
Fuck fuck fuck.
Just fuck.
-
Vanilla needs to add a post death doxxing permission option when you register for HCH.
-
That really sucks, he seemed like a good dude. I’m going to go rewatch his bounce thread in his honor. RIP dwag.
-
Goddamnit, that made laugh.
-
I figured @pawz would appreciate it and give me a heavenly down vote.
-
RIP. I'll miss talking DAWGS and politics with ya, Pawz.
-
Dang, 47 is way too young. Cancer sucks and I hope the country can keep making progress on fighting it (CAR-T, mRNA, and other treatments).
-
He reached out twice to hang out, as recently as last month even, and both times when he couldn't, it smelled like something shitty like this.
-
I'm very sorry to hear this. @pawz was, as Derek said, an OG and we've been trading barbs and observations for years.
A few things to say about pawz:
- Consistently reasonable and never treated anybody here badly. A gentlemen with his own opinions.
- He always backed me when I got out over my skis and was getting pounded by the mob.
- He was intellectually curious, humble and secure enough in himself to learn from other people and not pretend he knew everything. No posing with pawz.
- Politically represented the just to the right of center, center. We need more of this. Pawz had his views, but if something were being discussed he didn't run it through his party filter first to tell him how to conclude about it. IOW, a man with the requisite intellect to be discerning and not some dip shit political sloganeer. An increasingly rare commodity today. I really respected him for this trait.
- One of the dudes I would have liked to have met and hung out with were it not for my standing policy.
Rest in peace Pawz. I'm very sorry you had to go so young and in that way. You really were an OG, a gentlemen, and a real Husky. Also the owner of my favorite jif signature of all tim.
Fair winds and following seas my internet Husky friend.
Creep -
He downvoted and chastised me a month or two ago for shitpoasting, probably after I had strung together several drunk shitposts and he'd had enough.
He was right to call me out. Bummer to know he was going through hell at the tim.
Rip

@El_K and
The first Hardcore Husky get together I went to at the Pizza Coop in Woodinville. Had a blast, Pawz was a great guy and had fun talking 9mm’s with him for a few minutes along with all of the Dooging we did. A Circle Jerk to remember. Wish I would have slowed down on the Pilsners to remember more but gimmicks are hard to put away. Doog in Heaven my friend
-
Shit hell. This sucks.
Ts and Ps to his family.Right before the Huskies for a Cure game too :(

I became friends with Andrew outside of HCH before we both figured we were members, he was really excited to know I was that "Army guy"
He was a rare dude. Very complimentary and supportive of my posts on Facebook, I would use the word "sweet" in a non diminutive way. But he certainly stood on principle.
We lost a good poster and friend; the world lost an all time good dude. I pray for reals— will be thinking of he and his family.
Godspeed PAWZ. You're missed.

Texting with one of his friends down here, he had been struggling for awhile. It's pretty crazy that he wanted to go shooting and have beers as of like 2 months ago…
-
Man, I knew he was sick but just figured it was something he would beat. What a good, smart dude he was.
-
mRNA may have been his downfall if he got the jab, same as the other people across the planet dying "suddenly" or with mystery cancer. If he did I'd be surprised since he was a non-conformist back in the day.
-
RIP, Pawz… and FUCK CANCER!
-
Christ.
He wasn’t jabbed. I know that for that for fact. -
Christ what? Its a relevant issue and question.
