We'll know a lot about the Eastern Conference Finals after tonight … must win for Carolina. If they don't win tonight there's a good chance that they get swept.

Dallas had a 5 goal 3rd period tonight to flip things on Edmonton that included 3 PP goals to start the period. As I noted in my preview the margins between these teams are small and special teams would play a big factor in how things play out. I wouldn't say that Jake Oettinger was great in goal last night for Dallas but he held firm when needed. In contrast, Stuart Skinner melted down in the 3rd and frankly probably could have had a couple of those goals. I wouldn't say Game 2 is a must win for Edmonton but it's approaching one as losing Game 2 eliminates any margin for error going forward.

Jamie Benn is still a fake tuff guy pussy and the Stars are still well documented choke (on cock) artists

probably just like how Roope Hintz faked the chop slash by Darnell Nurse

I like Hintz. Benn and Marchment are rat fucks.

    Stanley Cup Preview

Since @PurpleJ likes rats this will be a series for him

Skill wise Edmonton is going to carry the day with McJesus and Draisaitl.

Florida should have the edge on D and in net and we'll see how effective Edmonton's D can be packing it in in front of the net against a team in Florida that has no problem barging their way through unlike the pussies from Dallas (still pissed at that series).

There's an edge to Edmonton that we'll likely find out within the first 2 games whether or not they can stand up to and take the fight directly to Florida.

Typically in Stanley Cup Finals rematches it is not uncommon for the team that lost the 1st Finals to rebound and win the 2nd Finals … the most recent example being Pittsburgh/Detroit in 2008 and 2009.

I like Edmonton in 7 games

I think the series hinges on whether Skinner shows up in net. Florida is a deeper and more talented team, although Edmonton has the better top line talent.

My heart says Edmonton, but my head says Florida. Panthers in 6.

And yes, both teams have plenty of rats on the rosters.

    Can't bet against Gretzky

The ideal situation is that Edmonton wins a day after Alberta secedes so we can continue making fun of Canada.

lol your most recent example was over 15 years ago with two of the most stacked rosters in the history of the sport. Even then Pitt beating that Detroit team with having added Hossa after their previous cup was one of the biggest upsets ever.

    Typically? 😆

Getting a repeat Finals is actually not very normal

The last instance prior to this Finals was the Detroit vs Pittsburgh Finals in 2008 and 2009

Prior to that the last rematch was in 1983 and 1984 where the Islanders won their 4th straight title in 1983 and then Oilers won their 1st title in 1984.

There were only 2 other instances in the post-Original Six era:

In 1977 and 1978 Montreal defeated Boston in both series in the middle of their 4 straight Cups (that Montreal team is on the short list of best teams ever)

In 1968 and 1969 Montreal beat St Louis in both years to win the Cup … I'd put a slight asterisk around this one because of how the league was separated with expansion and how ill-prepared the Western Conference teams (the New 6) were against the Eastern Conference teams (the Original 6)

The Original 6 era had some additional matchups but given the lack of turnover by the teams it's probably an apples to oranges comparison to today

So yes … "typically" the rematch has gone in the direction of the team that lost the prior year

Gotta give the panthers some credit. They made 2 Canadian teams think that they had hope to finally win the cup and then crushed them unmercifully. I enjoy this team more than the blackhawk/king runs for sure.

As a Dallas supporter seeing Skinner return to his normal shitty self is maddening as his high-end really has been in the 2 Western Conference Finals the last 2 years

Some of that is obviously on Dallas for not finding a way to get to him … but it's absolutely maddening him perform like a beer league goalie

At some point here in the next few days I'll work up an offseason primer for the Kraken and what things look like for them as we head into the Draft (big catalyst for trades) and free agency

If there is something specific that you'd like me to cover just let me know

    That’s because Dallas is one of the most overrated hockey clubs in the west, right up there w/ the Wild… You don’t need a quality net minder to beat em. Just play West Conf hockey better, right now Edmonton is the best in the west. I’ve got 2 questions;

1: Edmonton somehow cashes in on the Otter fiasco and he ends up in Edmonton, do they win next year? Or..
    2. Kraktards trade for McJesus chances? Does that make Seattle a contender or LA Gretz hope?

    Horrific take …

Dallas has made the West Finals each of the last 3 years … Minnesota hasn't won any of their last 9 playoff series and have won only 2 series in total in the last 20+ years.

That said Dallas has its own issues that they need to address (notably being a little more difficult to play against) but there are many teams in the NHL that would happily trade their situation for what Dallas is looking at over the next 4-5 years at minimum.

I think there's a good chance that the best of Edmonton's window has passed. There's a great unknown on what McDavid's next contract looks like. How much are they going to be able to pay for Bouchard vs does someone try to offer sheet him? They've largely leveraged their draft picks for short-term playoff runs and the path to replenish their roster is a challenge. The goaltending frankly is a mess (unless playing Dallas).

I would absolutely look at trading for McJesus if I was the Kraken GM and do believe that they have the assets to make a very compelling offer. There wouldn't be an asset in the organization that is off-limits if you were able to make that move with a contract extension attached.

Neither has Dallas so I’m sticking w/ the overrated…I think giving Bouchard a big contract is a waste of resources for Edm. He’s a great QB on the PP, but is a liability 5v5, slow and to many turnovers. If I was Edm I’d do a sign and trade for top Dman to pair w/ Eckholm. Trade Nurse’s bloated contract even eating money. Unload Kane and aardvark at the least one of em hope it’s enough to get Swayman. If Bouchard is part of that great!
