Northlake Tavern & Pizza Sells Couch

The Rat and the Raven dies.
The College Inn died for awhile. Will go back there next year.
Shultzy's was basically dead in 2021. It's back thankfully.
BigTime could only let in 30 people at a time in 2021 instead of the proper packed in fuckfest that it was this year.
Finn's survived throughout all of it so that it could usher out players from the team. The trashiest place out of all of them. -
No way

Please tell me the Duchess is still around

Saw that the other day. One by one, all my Seattle favorites have sold the couch.
I can remember eatig pizza, smoking cigs and drinking pitchers of Hank's there in the late 90s. -
The College Inn is BACK.
-
Dante's 50 cent pitchers of PBR. Also their nachos.

Honestly, U District bar scene has sucked ass for forever -

But yes, The Ave has sucked forever for bars. It sucked in the 90s and sucks now. -
But Earl's is still open, right? As long as we can still pre/post game on bottom shelf booze poured to the top of the glass with a splash of soda, we'll survive.

I don’t know that I fully agree re: Schultzy’s, but they have the best fries I’ve ever had.PostGameOrangeSlices said:

I also loved The Rat and the Raven. I went there at midnight the day I turned 21, and then ended my formal 21-run there the next night.
I somehow never went to Northlake Tavern and am sad that I didn’t.
Sad times, indeed. -
My girlfriend at UW was a waitress there and the manager poured me free beers for 4 years.PostGameOrangeSlices said:

Fast forward to Stanford game and I was fucked up but they still served me Bit Burger as we ended Shaw for good.
I prefer BigTime but both places are OG to a millennial doog. -
It's smartly/bizarrely located in an area far enough from new development to not worry about it for now.YellowSnow said:

Northlake was great as a broke, hungry college kid. As an adult there are far better choices for good food.DoogerMcFarland said:

Moved to a different spot a few blocks south of the original location years ago. Kind of became a generic shitty sports bar that continues to over serve. Far less chicken wire and homeless people.no_uh said:But Earl's is still open, right? Big Time got me in to porters back when no one was drinking them (what's that pint that looks like oil - I wanted to know about that). And it had the right look to be an early brewpub. And I liked that it was just two blocks from my apt. But the layout kind of sucked in there and it never really improved. Wasn't even really a good place to watch a game.

I interviewed Lincoln Kennedy years ago and he told stories about Shultzy's. While at UW it was his favorite place. I wish I could remember the best one that had me laughing. It was in Sports Washington magazine and not the interwebs so I can't pull it up with a link.PostGameOrangeSlices said:

I remember going to Schulzys in mid 90s and Lincoln Kennedy name was on wall of fame for most hot dogs eaten at one sitting.DerekJohnson said:

Tough to compete as a U-District bar when UW has a house party culture moreso than a bar culture. And when people want to go to bars, there’s now a light rail that takes them from 45th directly to cap hill in like 7 minutes
-
Goldie’s, Hall of Fame, College Inn, Duchess, Dante’s were our old stomping grounds … along with a Mexican restaurant (off 11th maybe?) where I spent almost my entire senior year eating nachos (hi @CFetters_Nacho_Lover) and drinking coronas.
-
When Earl's moved south of 45th a decade or so ago, she did not join. The drinks are still kinda cheap, but they aren't black out strong like the good ol' daysAEB said:

It's Donald Duck getting plungered so that's good enough for me. It I had editing skillz it would be a Husky holding the plunger.FireCohen said:

IIRC he went into eat and didn’t have enough money to cover the bill. So at the time there was some sort of eating challenge and if you set the record, then he didn’t have to pay. I thought he ate like 20 sausages or something goddamn ridiculous.DerekJohnson said:
