It’s actually amazing that he was able to get a team to win the conference given the lack of support he was given by the AD and boosters.
Phil Knight/Nike didn’t kick in until after the 1995 Rose Bowl.
BTW: Oregon started that season, 1-2, losing to Hawaii on the road and Utah at home.
It was remarkable the Ducks won the conference that year.
Shout out to Damon Huard and Kenny Wheaton for the memories.
We know all that. My line was a longstanding joke around these parts. @iDawg always said that Brooks' 17-year plan made the Communists' plan look like child's play
It was actually very pathetic what Brooks had to work with. Oregon was so desperate they hired a Beaver alum as Head Coach,
It was fun being a fan because they always played hard at home. Brooks was a hard-nosed defensive minded coach who ran a very predictable offense.
God help a running back who fumbled. To the bench. When you came back, another fumble, you may be in the Dawg house for the season.
Penn State had a great team in 1994.
Oregon did not have the level of talent nor the depth.
T
I was at the PSU RB. That first play 83 yard TD run by Ki Jana Carter was impressive. Even a good hit by Duck safety didn't knock him off balance. That guy was a special back.
Propping up your coach by shitting on the only good one you've? had in 20 years is a new level of doog. No surprise considering the source. Peterman quit, we get it, he was supposed to lead a decade(s) long dynasty. This shit is hilarious tho.
Season after winning the conference and having recruiting momentum, Petersen's 8th win was a bowl game against a mountain west team.
Fuck off loser.
lose a CFPO gayme and pop off
Imagine being a butthurt loser for this long over Peterson leaving you because he fell out of love. LOL.................................
I'm pointing out that Petersen was a B- coach in power 5, at a school with considerable advantages, in a conference where his biggest competition was mostly cuoug and ute, because that's what it was. Can't be a burnout and be amazing in power 5.
LOL, look at you guys and Cristobol. Won't even admit that he developed an OL that makes pretty much any OC look great this year.
Helfrich seems like the nice guy who's a good coordinator but just sucks as HC. Taggart was a total grifter but how long was he there? A year or something?
I disliked Belotti at the time, but it's been a while. Same with Chimp.
Meathead was the most annoying and now he's destroying Miami
the bottom line is that if your most hated rival likes your coach or ever says anything like "he seems like a good guy," it's time to reevaluate.
Peterman was a ex Oregon assistant under Bellotti. Duck fans didn’t hate him, just not happy he was coaching uw.
I liked him. Met him at a camp where I was with more talented friends. Pete was OC and Dan the Hawk was a super nice guy as well, nobody was sexually molested. As far as I know. Not by staff, at least. Two guys I knew wound up playing for him at Boise Truck Academy Annex.
I can respect quitters. It’s what separates us from the animals, they fight to the death and shit and what does that get them? Sure, some of them get laid - but is another season of deer pussy worth getting gored over when you’ve sired deer for so long? Can’t fault a dude for getting burned out, not when he’d been grinding for three plus decades, built a program, built another program. Got his big arm QB, his Typhoid Mormon Mary WRs, a bunch of DBs, got staff that he trusted to not bang recruit moms. Then some meaty Cuban lucks into his old assistants golden boy QB, gets to recruiting and working his staff to the bone dropping bigger bags than he has access to, and why keep doing this shit? He reached the ceiling in his fourth year, gonna keep grinding himself to an early grave just so he can do it again in a few years if things fall exactly right again?
When you start to look like an aging skeleton man it’s when you need to stop. So many hours spent on perfectionism and so many living rooms where he had to flash that toothy grin, and then you get to a point where it’s like… fuck it. Going to wrap it up and it’s whatever, no details needed. These assholes think they can do better? They have no idea what it takes.

Nailed it. Peterman would have been a great head coach at Oregon. He was a fool to take the Washington job thinking he could meet the expectations of one of the most delusional fan bases in the country.

While I agree Washington fans tend to have a very high opinion of themselves as a general matter, you cannot fault them for being disappointed in Peterman's teams' performances in January and against Oregon. There is only so much joy you can derive from beating up Cuog!, an institution and demographic for which Dwags truly have absolutely zero respect. They outwardly respect USC, obviously, and they secretly respect Oregon, not so obviously. Their disdain and dismissal of Cuog is real and genuine and goes back generations. It's not enough to beat up on those guys. That's more humor for Dwag nation.
Peterman didn't want to recruit against Crisco. If Crisco is good at nothing else, and that may prove to be the case, he is a damn good recruiter and maybe that is the part of it Peterman didn't like. You don't fucking like it, and the asshole down the freeway from you and against whom you're going to be judged loves it and is stealing guys from your own back yard. Yeah, that wouldn't be an exciting prospect.
I also think Boise State was probably more fun in the "under promise / over deliver" sense of the expectations there. Things are different at UW.

Helfrich was a very nice guy. Chip Kelly was the HC and OC. Chip Kelly called the plays as HC.
Notice how he did with Kelly’s two-point conversion schtick after Kelly left.
Helfrich did nothing spectacular before or after his time at Oregon.
He was a disaster as a head coach. Made two terrible hires at DC.
Failed as a leader. Players didn’t respect him and he had problems with coaches on his staff who were far more knowledgeable and capable than him.
Helfrich was in over his head. Came out well financially when he was deservedly fired.

Carter had an abbreviated pro career because of injuries.
