That coach was the biggest asshole I’ve ever seen. He started out in Kenmore, WA, and now he’s in Kansas at Independence CC holding 21 offers.
Quentin Moore has seen his football career come full circle in the past two years, and today he was on the UW campus while home for spring break, and the “dream” came true.
“Coach Cato and I have been talking for awhile now”, the 6-5, 250 tight end told Realdawg.com, “I told him I would come and visit U-dub (unofficially) when I get home for spring break…I’d have to set it up for Thursday. So I went over there today and did the whole tour and I loved it. Then I went to Coach Lake’s office.”
And the offer was made, “This is my mom’s dream come true, she started crying”, Moore said of his mother, Sarah, “It almost made me tear up.”
The Huskies kept an eye on Moore back when he was in high school, but at that time it wasn’t going to happen because Moore still had some hurdles to climb over, “I didn’t think school was important”, he said, adding that his coach was always telling him that talent alone wasn’t going to get him to the next level.
Now, he’s kicked that stone out of his path and is doing extremely well in junior college, “I’ll be ready to graduate next December”, he said.
Moore will three to play two once he gets on the field at what ever school he chooses, but Washington is right up there now that they’ve offered.
“Oh yes”, he said when asked if he’s seriously considering his hometown school now, “I still want to ride it out and see what’s going to happen.”
On the field Moore is a play-maker. He knows what to do and does it with ease on the field in terms of his routes, balance, being able to catch in stride and knock guys out of the way in the process.
And one thing that he’s become astute at since being in college is blocking, “Before I came to Independence I really didn’t know much (about blocking)”, Moore said, adding that he’s been coached up for blocking the past two years, “Last season I was the best blocking tight end on the team.”
This is truly a story about a young man who was determined to fight for what he wanted — and he has won that fight.
Moore plans to take a couple more unofficial visits and probably (atleast) a couple of official trips before making a decision.
